Brave Camp 2021

“Brave Camp” documentary is a Today, I’m Brave (TIB) film, co-directed by ad and film industry veteran Peter Nicholson and TIB filmmaker Juan Pablo Digenio. The aspirational film illuminates the magic of TIB’s first-ever Brave Camp for 100 BIPOC teens held at Grizzly Creek Ranch in Portola, California, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Journeys. It shines a light on the underserved youth in America - latest data shows 22% of teens are bullied, 2,200 drop out of high school, 4,353 are arrested - every day -- and gives viewers an intimate look at how Brave Camp elevates this community of youth and helps them unlock their inner bravery, and take on everyday challenges, like bullying, peer pressure, self-expression, and other social issues.
Unlike any other summer camp program, Brave Camp is week-long immersive, customized camp curriculum -- based on TIB’s signature Brave Journey Program -- which includes six key themes: Community, Empathy, Confidence, Uniqueness of Self, Adaptability and Commitment.
From mindful meditation with renowned yogi Michael Carter, to learning Jiu-Jitsu as a mindset by the legendary Gracie Brothers, to art therapy with artist/innovator Sheila Darcey, to music and poetry workshops by Jamaican rap/hip hop poet Nadirah X, singer and songwriter Christopher Taylor who energized the camp and motivated the campers to jump on the mic and sing, many for the first time, to identifying their superpower, painting it on a rock and sharing with the entire camp, “Brave Camp” captures the essence of this distinctive camp experience.
In the film, campers reveal their fears and how they overcame them, we witness the beauty of their comradery, sportsmanship and empathy towards one another. It truly is a transformative experience for these campers and all who came together to bring Brave Camp to life.
