I've been watching UA-cam guitar lessons for well over ten years, and I've never seen someone emphasize the importance of sequences. And it's like the one thing I never do! This could be the revelation I needed to get me to off of the plateau I've found myself on. Brilliant.

Fretboard Freedom gives you exactly what you are looking for from the simple sequences to mastery. If you can’t learn from Claus you just are not paying attention. My guitar playing in just three short months of returning to guitar has soared to levels I thought I could never reach. Trust me when I say that Claus’ system of guitar mastery works. Can’t wait to continue my courses.

I would just like to suggest (like I have many times before) to anyone who has a hard time following along with what Claus is doing in videos like this and wish he would slow down, put tabs up on the screen etc., that purchasing his "Fretboard Freedom" course would help you immensely with this. It's really the foundation of everything that he does.
As a result of learning the approach that he teaches in that program, I can usually see exactly what he's doing, as he's doing it. I don't need any tabs, I don't need him to slow down, because I now see the fretboard the same way that he does. This makes following along in these free lessons and other programs of his easy, because I already know the "tools" that he's using to create these different exercises and ideas. All I have to do is sit back and watch, and "listen for the principal".
Claus, I really think it would do you (and your viewers) good to mention Fretboard Freedom as sort of a counterpart or companion piece to most of your other lessons more often. I mean you mentioned "six note shapes" several times in this video, almost as if everyone should know what that means. You have to remember that most instructors don't teach the scales in this way.
Most people end up learning scales as box shapes that cover all six strings. Even those who learn them as three note per string patterns, still usually learn them as shapes that cover all six strings. I realize that it's pretty easy to understand what "six note shape" MEANS but as someone who's taken Fretboard Freedom, when you say that I know exactly what six note shapes you're referring to, and can instantaneously picture them in my mind as you're moving around the fretboard. Again, this makes following along so much easier.
I only mention this because in the past I've seen people complaining in the comments section of your videos that you "need to slow down", or zoom in closer to the fretboard, or put tab up on the screen... If these people were familiar with the basic foundational principles taught in Fretboard Freedom I think most of them would find that they don't need any of that at all.

The insights in this video are pure gold. I want to agree with @HeavyInstinct as well about Fretboard Freedom. This video was pretty dense for me to watch the first time, but then I got Fretboard Freedom and now it all makes perfect sense. For me, Fretboard Freedom is the best fretboard navigational system I have ever come across. I thought there were CAGED scales and 3NPS scales and that was it. This was the first new perspective on the fretboard I've seen since I started with guitar. Can't recommend it enough.

Hi from Scotland! I really like the way you break things down into layman's terms for us average guitarists lol. It's like looking at it from a totally different perspective. Keep up the good work. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🎸

Wow you know a lesson is good when it makes you want to pick up your guitar instead of making you watch more videos hahaha. I have been doing this kind of thing already but saying it out loud M
made me realize I should actually practise it too haha.

Moving the 6 note exercise in C major (that starts in B locrian) up and down the neck is how I began to "see" the modes connected to each other. Each position shares notes with the mode that comes before or after it.

To understand Claus’ system, ...FIRST buy the Fretboard Freedom course! Once you understand that, everything falls in place!!
Then get his TULTS course from his Cequentia site and the practice for this concept is like a MASSIVE AHA! I bought this course first and it didn’t quite make sense but when I got Fretboard...it all sunk in.

To really master each one on autopilot though you need to move it around strings and keys to internalize it first at least for me. I like one melody and then repeatedly rephrasing it. Gives a basis for improv

Are sequences created within caged/3nps scales or just a sequence of any notes on the fretboard? Thanks

Great video, Claus! Thanks for all your lessons, they help me much more than every other thing. I've a question: I suffer since many years of extreme rigidity of muscles, nothing of pathologic, but it's a problem for my guitar learning. What is a good warmup? And for how much time? Excuse me for my poor english level. You're great musician and ispiration!

I have problems of muscolar pain when I practice with metronome, and less when I practice without it. I don't understand, the speed is the same. It's a possible thing, or it's a sort of autosuggestion?

You could have completely demystified this lesson by saying you were using spread fingering technique ( 3 notes per string ) in the key of C maj. That simple statement would have made this lesson much easier to follow .

    • @Dreamdancer11
      @Dreamdancer11 6 років тому

That is not the lesson though...the lesson is to use and combine sequences to build melodic patterns to move around the neck so effortlessly that u seem to never run out of things to play, although playing at top speed. The technique can be varied....he could have done the same thing with tapping and sliding, the core of this lesson is how to build melodic patterns on the fly after u internalise some sequences u practice for a long time.
