Just catching up mate real interesting watch bud. I might slow my pod right down. I use it to create current though as I don't want lazy fish lol. Showers do well with high volume as dwell time is set by gravity. That's why I run the nexus so high. But I hear you with the old set ups of matured filters. Thanks for taking the time dude great watch.
another great video martyn love the way you explain things i was once told by an old koi keeper who never lost a koi in 25 years if it isnt broken dont try to fix it your set up seems to work great m8
Great video mate really enjoyed showing us your filter setup am old school got 8 Bay system Japanese matting brushes am really happy with water quality is amazing filters 6000 gallon look forward to your nx video mate takecare down there in Devon beautiful part of country

Another brilliant video martyn as you say every pond is different think we would all like a nexus they.seem to be the one to have these days but there is lots of other ways to keep koi for sure
DevonKoi Pond hi martyn received my parcel today Thankyou so much brilliant prizes already put them on my pond they look stunning top quality job on them mate
Great Video Martin. I am so tempted to change mine completely in the new year but space is dictating that decision at the moment. I think I'll stick to plan A of changing my current set up to see how mine can work better for me. Cheers, #koipondlifestyle
If the bay filter is doing the job just lay into it with some mod's K1 moving and fixed and so on. I have just filmed today the mod's I have dun to my Cloverleaf Genesis bay filter for next Monday. Your in the same sort of filters have to go I'm in if you need a long run of filters in a line take a look at the Cloverleaf Genesis 2 much bigger than the one I have they do them up to a five bay so much you could do with one of them. The world don't run around a drum or Nexus you would be surprised how many people are still running bay filters
But then you would want a moving bio bed to go with the drum and on it go's Steve hope you had a nice day out I'm of over to see James tomorrow will be filming a joint how to
Great video once again sir. Love my nexus it pulls some right crap out on the vortex alone. I like it on gravity as the filter pulls the crap out before the pump. I think pumps create fines as they chop it up. Sell the 2 pods and get a nexus less graft as you get older lol. Keep up the good work mate.
Should one come around at a good price I would think about swapping the vortex out for a Nexus but i think i would be putting the Answer in the centre of that and keep the pods still this will happen at some point. Happy ponding
Think this video has made my decision to replace the pressure filter with an easypod next season a definite. Thinking a easypod complete will have to raise it a bit so it can gravity feed my shower.
Cost is always a decision maker in pond builds. That is why I am trying to make what I have work with the addition of the 410 answer. Thanks for the video.
Ok the slide valves work but at some point it will need a strip and clean and or rebuild or replacing so allow where ever you put it room to get in and undo the bolts to split it and work on it. in 14 years of using them I have only ever had one that I had to strip and rebuild. the second thing is working out how you can block the flow of water to it so you can take it out to do anything. don't let this put you off I still like them and problems can happen on any valve type
Personally myself, I prefer using a nexus or an eazypod as drums tend to clog up the pond because you don't purge them as much as you do with a nexus or eazypod. To me there is no difference between a drum or a nexus with a nancer but 3x the price. Great video by the way!
Hi Martin, just about to take delivery on an eazy pod as a pre filter to my converted Kokney koi tat is now jam matting and 150 L of K media moving beds. Do you still make the disk lid on the Eazy pod at all as concerned that the boiling will mean losing k media.
Mark I have never made them to sell just give away in competitions sorry. If you look on the channel page on the banner top of page far right hand side bottom you will see a little link button click the round dot right side of that button it will take you to TinyUpload page you can download the file and get some one to cut one for you or make a paper template from it and Diy cut one by hand. Hope this is of help to you
Well you are looking to turn it into Nitrate so you need anaerobic bacteria it likes a less oxygen rich growing ground so some of the expensive porous media in a shower filter or in a bay filter or on the cheap some alfagrog in the same sort of thing but you need a good amount of the alfagrog 40kg for every 500 gallons as a starting point I have 180 kg of it for my 2800 gallons and 18 fish. hope this is of help
Hi mate Static k1 in the first barrels is a winner micro if you can but it cost's more on next Mondays you will see what I was doing to do and what I did. I was going to have two pods two blue Barrels moving k1 two blue barrels of grog. but pricing all the 3 inch pipe and fittings up for the barrels I came across the Genesis three bay for sale new unused for half the price of what it was going to cost me in fitting's to use the barrels so I went with that dropping one of the grog bays as the cloverleaf Genesis has only three bays
@@boxtriker brilliant m8 thanks, that will be my next job static k1 or sinking k+ . This gravel filter dose the job but a nightmare to clean especially without a drain valve, oh well you live and learn 👍
Help me please I got an easy pod in June but don't think the k1 has matured yet. My nitrites an natrates kh an pH are all high after water changes any suggestions please
It can take months and months for k1 to mature have you tested your tap water to see what you are starting with. Don't worry to much about the nitrates for now but the nitrites need to come down you don't say about ammonia. But if the tap waters lower on kh ph then as you have been doing water changes you can lower ph kh stop feeding for a week I know its hard but they can go months without food. only thing i can say after that is you can up and down the kh ph with oyster shell/bicarb soda/ white vinegar/ or a proper koi pond treatments off the shelf from a shop but the water changes are the first line thing to it it with 20% - 25% a day till its where it should be or at same level as the tap water make sure you dechlorinate the tap water
@@boxtriker well iv just tested my pH from tap water an it's the same colour as pond an that's through the dechlorinator my ammonia was ok but ran out of test kit do gotta wait for another. I will go with no food for a week an see wat happens. Poor fish r gonna hate me lol 😂😂😂
If the ph is high try the 1/4 cup of white vinegar for every 500 gallons is the norm but little at a time over two or more hours and test after the 1/4 cup add more if needed till you hit the right spot From all this i gather you are on hard water from the tap
@@boxtriker will try it tomorrow. Never had this trouble with my last hozelock bioforce filter lol but I built a bigger pond well only 8ft x 4ft an 3 ft deep that's y I brought the eazy pod maybe once it settles it will be fine.
