      You can sometimes get great deals on used bead filters too! Nothing wrong with them just look on ebay or gumtree facebook and the like.

    Hi my coustomer just bought this bead filter to set up for his koi pond what is the best way to have it put in skimmer to the bead filter or should you recomend a siff screen first .

    Great video; thank you. How is a bead filter cleaned manually after it has become clogged with remnants of string algae?

      The best bead filters a compressors. They agitate the beads and allow the solids to be flushed to waste.

      You can take the lid off the bead filter and clean all the muck out, it takes a while and you have to scoop all the beads out. There's also a drain plug at the bottom of the bead filter to drain all the sediment out too. The lid won't come off very easy and might need two people to twist it off. I would recommend getting a lid removal tool for this, they are quite expensive but worth it. You should only need to do this once a year really as an annual clean out, along with all you other equipment like pumps etc.

    I I have had ponds for a few years but I never seem to get it right. I’m currently building a two tier round pond 2m roughly and 4ft deep. What I struggle with is green algie . I clean a pond fully refresh leave for a while and return the fish , a couple of week goes and the algie is back . I want to get it right this time can you help to what system I would need ??

    Could you use a drum and bead filter set up on a very large aquarium? I assume so, but I am struggling finding filters for 1000+ gallons and these pond filters seem like the only choice.

    • @leecalladine
      @leecalladine  5 років тому

      Absolutely. But solids are usually smaller and less of a problem in aquariums. You might even not need the drum?

    Do you recommend a vortex filter and a drum filter?

    Hi Lee. I have a 12000 ltr aquamax pump dry installed pulling from an aerated portable bottom drain into a 20000 oase filtoclear filter then into a pfc 50000 all pond solutions filter (both pressurised) this then leads to a diy moving bed filter with 150 ltrs of helx13 which then leads to a shower filter of biohome ultra. I have ten koi n one albino grass carp (5500 ltr pond) All fine but i worry with growth n time how could i improve the filtration without starting from scratch? Would i be able to connect a bead filter on 38mm flexi hose after my pressurised filters? Any advice b brill 👍

      @leecalladine  4 роки тому +1

      You can always add on. But by the sounds of it you have a lot of filtration already. Especially with the shower. Its almost always the solids that give you a problem and pumping directly from a bottom drain may give you issues. So would watch the pump doesn't get something in there that could block it or damage the pump. Hope this helps. I am starting a new project my this week and have some videos about it coming up. We are putting in a brand new system filtration will be covered in that.

      @@leecalladine Thanks Lee so a bead filter could be connected to 38mm flexi pipe if i needed to for additional mechanical filtration. I'll watch your next videos 👍 big fan of the channel

    Hi which would be better a bead filter filled with beads or Micro K1 media.
    Thank you

    • @leecalladine

      Don't think it make much difference. But the beads will take out small solids.

    You forgot to rinse after backwash!!

      Ahh that's why it's always runs dirty when I turn the pump back on lol.

    • @JC-cv4ut
      @JC-cv4ut 2 роки тому

      @@leecalladine lol took me a while to figure it out too. That's the function of the rinse, to get that final 'rinse off'. If the bead filter is really dirty or hasn't been cleaned for a while it's good to do the whole process twice before turning back to filter. So rinse with blower, then backwash, then rinse and do it a second time, then filter.

    • @JC-cv4ut

      I would recommend putting a clear section of pipe work on the waste line right next to the mutiport valve unit, that way you can see all the waste and dirty water when your cleaning and you know when it's finished because the water starts to run clear. You can see the final rinse and the mucky water, it only takes 30secs or so for the final rinse, so it doesn't ploom into you pond. Hope that helps
