Years ago I had a 1986 Honda XR600R. It was bored out, had an aftermarket piston with more compression, was rejetted and had a super trap exhaust, it was extremely fast! Back then I still lived in my hometown of Tucson Arizona, that bike was perfectly suited for the desert! Great video, thanks for sharing!

I had my XR600R for about four years before I got paralyzed and it got ridden hard! 85-100 MPH through the desert was a regular ride! Only purest can appreciate the absolute tank-like ability of an XR. Had one years ago as a youngster, went 2 stroke, then 4 stroke and a couple years ago came back to my roots...good ole XR. Thing are fricken mules and take a beating better than any other bike I’ve owned. You can put stuff that suggest it’s gas in em, run “a” fluid for oil and they just keep going.
I have a 1990 XR600, enlarged engine to 630 cc heavily ported head, extreme cam, removed choke and smooth bored carby, geared it to 140 kph at 8000 rpm, with just over 70 hp it is deadly.
I have a 95 one. Never misses a beat. They don't make them like that anymore. In 1999 during the ISDE there was a rider team USA that was struggling carrying that beast up hill on a narrow single track, he had broken the kick-start and ther was no way in hell he could start the thing. Had to give the man a push up there. Once gravity turn to his favour you could hear him ride the heck out of that thing. Not sure if he hadn't stole it, sure sounded like he had ;)
I bought a XL 600 RM last month, it's my first bike ever - but boy, it's a lot of fun! super reliable, easy for a beginner but packs a mean punch, can virtualy go anywhere, and the sound...I'm in love!
You know it’ll never break down unless you punch a hole in the sump and lose all your oil. No fragile radiators, no hoses to puncture or pop off, no complicated efi shit. Even with all the cooling fins caked with mud she’ll just tractor on, even though it’s the hottest side of the cylinder that gets blocked with mud. Love the old Hondas
Ahh man, I really miss my XR600....... I have owned 2 trough the years, one -87 model and one -91, and both ended up stolen. Now after watching this I want to buy one again. But the price for a used XR600R is ridiculous.

Ten years ago I saw a neglected 91 XR600 in the corner of a farmer's shed and mentioned if he ever wants to move it on let me know ... Five years later he contacted me and my riding passion was revamped .. it's November 2021 now and I've thrown a fair bit of coin at the old girl but I love it and ride her as a commuter and weekend trail hunter regularly ... without a doubt she certainly was / is the bike I always wanted.
What an awesome soundtrack: Honda in the woods. Seems like nature. Long climes are about momentum, torque and conversion of power through low gearing. Thank you for sharing
I owned two of them and I finally got a CR 250 and I never looked back at another four-stroke bike. The 600's are great on dirt roads and fire roads but they're a pain in the ass in tight woods.
it's about the rider not the bike. CR also is lighter and has mx tuned suspension. These are about challenging yourself and pushing the limits of what a 4 stroke can do. Anyone can be good on a CR.
The xr is a beast of a bike I had a xr400 and with a new back tyre and new chain and sprockets it would pull me up near vertical banks and hills I loved it good video I can see u have it tamed
I ride my 96 XR600r all around the AZ desert and crashing is the best on my beast, every time i do it seems the damn thing gets up on it's own and says c'mon let's go rip some more! Great video man keep up the good work and keep the rubber side down!!!
Had a 85 xr600, used to do a lot of desert riding in southern California and Mexico. That thing was bulletproof. I would love to ride that bike one more time.
Can’t seem to find an off road bike I enjoy riding as much as the XR600. Love the lazy low down torque. Had mine for 25 years and still love it. Grouse vid bloke👍🏼
It's hard to tell, but the XR is in 4th gear for every scene. The XR600R is the honey badger of dirt bikes. It does not give a sh*t what gear you are in, it just goes.
Nice bike. I just started restoring one, it’s a 1986 XR, but with the 650cc engine from the 650L and a 2 barrel carb and dual exhaust. A bit of a frankenstein. It needs a lot of parts but it still has compression after sitting outside for 20 years, which is the life saver.

Now that's a MANLY bike. 600cc air cooled, wire operated clutch, no bullshit. I ride a Husqvarna 510, which is also pretty rad, but I'd swap it for an XR600 of a good shape
Wow where your riding just like the enduros I used to be takin to in Wales by a bloke who rode a XR 600 in the mid 80s. remembering that exhaust note love it the guy who took me was a bouncer he was 6ft,6 and about 20 stone so a big bloke I think his bike was raised at the back but the way the bloke in the video gets on it means he must be over 6ft because I remember Russell's bike being bloody massive...just love that brap,brap,deep raspberry note built like a tank...up and down that hill at 2.19 brilliant loved it massive smile...

I had a 94! Most dependable bike I ever owned! Injured and had to sell! Now Honda no longer makes them! I wish I never sold that bike. Riding again now but missing my XR for sure!!!!!
My brother had one and I liked riding it but hated starting it. It looks so twitchy and marshmallowy in the video. I remember really liking the smooth power.
I ride it a lot. It keeps up to the modern day 450. I live in the rocky mountains of Alberta. I've never thought to myself, this bike needs more power. I have never bogged it down on any hill. Torque! Guys sometimes give me a hard time that it's an enduro bike, but they don't know that the 2000 650R was the baja Honda race bike, undefeated... until of course I destroy them with it... bone stock
nice video and beautiful landscapes. old Honda enduro bikes are unbeatable! with my old honda Xl 1984 I crossed on and off road all over Europe. There have been few small mechanical failures. We have always managed to repair in a short time and we have always returned home safely ... :)

I have been to Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Estonia and many other countries and it has always brought me home. Had an 83 500 and an 87 600. Put lots of fun miles on both bikes. Never had any trouble with either of them, super reliable and really fun.

I watched a 16 year old climb the front mountain at Carnegie hills in Cali on a xr 600. Unreal bikes, miss my xr 200.

The 200 was too underpowered the 250 was a much better bike

Loved my XR 600 and then one day I didn’t check the engine oil-it seized and then I cried pushing it all the way home.
Did the same thing with my XR 80 but I was able to save it and it still runs today!😁

Great riding and excellent video bro. I love that bike. Have always wanted a 600, since the 80s, when I was a teen. Have owned a 200, 250, 400, and a 650R. There never seems to be a 600 for sale, when I get the urge to buy a bike lol. I ride the 650 at the moment, but like the 400 better. I would say a 600 would be perfect for me. Awesome area to ride around as well👍

I bought one of those in 1988. I sold it to buy a DR650 to ride on the road. I sure miss the snappy torque.
