    As a retail worker, it was stressful. And most ppl did the right thing, but it was the few that made it frustrating

      Retail workers have basically had to deal with the craziest extent of this whole event. From door greeters to the people who work in the return section. What an exhausting place, I feel so bad for the people there.

    I live in Southeast Asia (Indonesia) and thank god everyone use bidet here! It always struck me how most of other countries prefer toilet paper, I never get the feeling of hygiene using it. Anyway great video as always!

    • @thinkfact
      @thinkfact  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, countries that use bidets definitely lucked out. Though I think after this all incident, there might be more people interested in them globally. The toilet paper is a weird product, because I guess if you go up feeling like it did the job, you don't ever feel like you're not clean enough. And I think that might be why it's still in use, people grew up with it and feel comfortable with it. Where someone who doesn't grow up with it, might not feel like it does a good job to the same degree. Or at least if they're so used to using better means.
      Thanks for sharing!

    In high school, my friends and I would steal toilet paper from the school bathrooms and use it to TP people's houses. One or two rolls of the industrial stuff could take care a whole house/yard

    The TPS didn't really affect the place I lived at all (I recently moved, hence the past tense). Except for the memes, of course, 10/10, but there were always a somewhat normal amount of tp available. I do remember a limit on how much yeast you could buy, though. The other fact about toiler paper is that it is BIG on the shelf, so the photos of shortages of toilet paper were far more dramatic than shortages of peanuts or something.

    • @thinkfact

    I live with two other people, we buy toilet paper about once a month. Due to poor timing in this we almost ran out. We checked 3 different stores over the course of a week, but once we found it we didn’t buy any more than normal, because that would continue to escalate the problem.

    • @thinkfact
      @thinkfact  4 роки тому

      That's wise. I found it extremely bizarre when I saw people who I know live alone all by themselves buying upwards to 5 to 10 packages of the stuff. I highly doubt they're even through the first package after all this time. It's nice to hear that some people still remained calm even when they were faced with a hard time getting their hands on some.

    I mentioned wondering why "differential rotation" and the sun had never been part of one of the fact videos. Quickly I got a reply that made all of the sense in the world I'm impressed a guy with no time takes time to answer. This guy is the real thing. So I'll help the sun as it turns on its axis takes 28 days near the axis points and 35 days at its equator to make one revolution. This is because the sun is in the forth state of matter plasma and is not sold. Hence "differential rotation" occurs.

    funny that I was in Hannfords (in Maine) when people started talking about how Australia was starting to hoard TP (I dunno if this was true. this is how rumors get spread). I was in line at the checkout when this happened. I recalled that we were low on TP so i grabbed a small pack. Figured what the heck.
    The next week things started to get carried away. (BTW we never needed to stock up. There's only 2 people at our house. We thought the world was off its nut.) Hello from York Maine. 😃

    Just before the whole toilet paper stuff we had gotten a big pack. However, because we needed to use 6 face masks and lots of paper towels, AND cleaning solution we did have some problems. Despite the nurses not wanting to hear that we were using only 2 face masks (reusing them) a day we were having a problem with the paper towels and Clorox wipes and still are having a problem getting cleaning solutions like Clorox Clean Up. We have a friend who found a 5 pack of the wipes, and the roommate brought home 2 tubs from her trip - only using 3 or the 5 pack - and maybe leaving the open ones with her mother. So, yeah, we got a large amount of paper towels recently and still have TP from the roommate buying it when she sees it. Oh, and antibacterial hand soap, that's still been a bit of an issue, but we found some tea tree oil soap that works. Why do we need this stuff? my wife is on peritoneal dialysis.

    • @thinkfact
      @thinkfact  4 роки тому +2

      Goodness gracious, sounds like you've been on a bit of a wild goose chase. Toilet paper was definitely just one side of the panic, cleaning supplies definitely became very hot items and I can imagine you guys probably went through quite a bit of trouble to get them. I was very fortunate that we kept a pretty solid amount of supplies on most things we need, though we found ourselves handing out some of our own stuff to family members who got snubbed.
      I'm sorry to hear about your wife, I hope everything works out for you both!

    I liked this video, video idea! How about coin shortage? According to the "grassy knoll" peeps it may be contrived so that all transactions are made with traceable methods. Why doesn't Skynet seem as unbelievable as it did many years ago?!

    • @thinkfact
      @thinkfact  4 роки тому

      That's interesting. One thing I've always wondered is if coins would be used more if they had higher values. A quarter nowadays is worth a lot less than it was back in the seventies or even the twenties. I wonder if their values were fluctuated, or new coins are made, they would get greater use?

    This is an example of the Thomas theorem! "If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences. In other words, the interpretation of a situation causes the action". I think this is something more people should learn about because then people would understand the power of media and rumors!

    • @thinkfact
      @thinkfact  4 роки тому

      Oh that's really interesting, thank you so much for sharing! I definitely think understanding panic is unfortunately something that people just don't have a lot of time dedicated to in early education. That herd mentality behind is quite shocking. I wonder how many logical people still get pulled into the fold just because they recognized the shortage was not because of the claims and rumors, but because of the people freaking out themselves and not wanting to be left with nothing.

    • @confusedsakana
      @confusedsakana 4 роки тому

      @@thinkfact Yea exactly! But also if some people think it´s going to be a shortage of something and start to "bulk buy" that will create a lokal shortage of that product just because of a sudden increase in demands. That can create even more panic because now more people think the rumor is true and also start to "bulk buy" and so on!

    John 3:16-21
    16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
    Mark 1.15

    • @thinkfact
      @thinkfact  4 роки тому

      It is true that it is often considered a peninsula with numerous occupied islands, but almost the entire border with the mainland is actually divided by both large and thin rivers and streams that effectively require bridges to even get to Hong Kong with exception to a small western region which is where the mainland has part of the city on the other side of the river, but still effectively connected through a bridge.
      The context behind the claim is more based around how it geographically interacts with other regions. Hong Kong is very similar to many island communities.
