      The reason everyone panic bought in the first place is because they didn't know if we would be allowed to leave our houses. Other countries were on full blown lock down barricaded in their houses. People were just being prepared. On March 1st, I went out and bought 40 rolls. It lasted the whole month. The next time I went shopping, the store was out. I already knew about the stay at home orders weeks before they were made so I made sure I had what I needed for the month.

So I loved that. And just the excuse in general actually. Stores are out of tp, paper towels, hand sanitizer, alcohol, bleach...even the food shelves are empty. I couldn't get mushrooms or chicken yesterday. But obviously people arent panic buying. They're just suddenly home and everyone is going after the same particular items, no matter how little sense it makes to get those items, according to this segment. That's the kinda news I want to watch too :p

    There was plenty at my Walmart yesterday. I don’t get why people were hoarding it anyway. Hoarding food is understandable if you don’t know how long you might be forced to stay in, but no one really needs toilet paper. The reason I heard from a different channel is different but more believable: toilet papers occupy a huge space compare to other items on the shelf. When one or two packs are bought, the suddenly empty spot on the shelf is very noticeable. So when buyers look to stock on toilet papers tend to stock more than usual. By domino effect, toilet papers will be sold out quick.

  • @ellec2935
    @ellec2935 4 роки тому

    People started hoarding tissue when they saw the run on tissue on social media and being reported on the news. No one is using the level of TP at home you are talking about. I read his piece and it makes sense only on the surface. At this point, 4 weeks in and stores not allowing people to hoard, NOW it is a supply issue. But also because many people missed the initial hoarding, when they do find it in the store, they can only get one package and that could be for an entire family. So it is multifactorial, but hoarding started the ball rolling.

    People don't want to have to go back to the store every week to get supplies. Every time a person goes to the store, there is a chance that they may become infected and then infect the members of their home. It makes sense that people want everything that they need in their homes for a long period of sheltering in place so that they don't have to go out among people that don't know how to follow safety rules and incompetent, slow to warn federal "leadership" which has caused much harm during all of this. People buy in this manner in the U.S. because they don't trust their government. It's very simple. They know the federal government is giving out garbage as guidelines "it's a hoax that will go away in the summer time", and so they take it upon themselves to assume the worst and they act by panic buying/hoarding. Why can't the toilet paper supply increase to accommodate this instead of putting limits on how much a person can buy, which just makes it so that people have to keep filling stores and spreading disease? The situation is the same online. Toilet paper is out of stock everywhere. Why is the supply not increasing to accommodate these needs? It's more failure from this fickle, capitalistic, profit driven, profit centered, people last, country.

    It's the same issue with food - so much is going wasted (and by that I mean, rotting in the field) because business are set up completely differently between what is made and sold to groceries and what goes to restaurants and big businesses. The food shortage that likely is coming (at least to some extent... folks are gonna have to get used to seasonal eating for a while I think) won't be because there IS no food... it's just been lost to wastage. Most folks can't buy a pallet of #10 cans of tomatoes, and with eateries closing, who is gonna buy it? It's not cost effective to break a pallet down for a company and sell direct to the retail market. All I can figure is that places like co-ops might start seeing a lot more business this year as they are more set up to break an order down and sell it out to individuals.

    To be clear everything is executed in just-in-time philosophy reason being it's the best way to minimize waste, we're always coming out with new products so it's the best system to implement. toilet paper is perishable not as quickly as food, and given no water touches it, but certainly will over time, you usually use it before it loses its structural integrity.

    Toilet paper is the least of my worries now, use warm water, and wash your hands with warm water and soap afterwards, it’s more hygienic anyway!!!!

    Go to Amazon and buy a bidet that you can attach to your toilet-seat. Problem solved, with an added bonus of it being cheap and much healthier and no toilet-papers clogging the pipelines! Plus no need to touch anything, the knob-controlled pressurized water from bidet cleans your behind very nicely.

      Actually, that's not so crazy. When kids aren't being home-schooled, or being sent homework from school-teachers (which our school is starting up on Monday), parents gotta have something to occupy their kids' brains once all the "family game nights" have worn out their charm, and Mom and Dad need "us time." ;-)
