Great list! Some films I thought you missed: Triangle of Sadness (Ruben Östlund), The Menu (Mark Mylod), The Pale Blue Eye (Scott Cooper) and Devotion (J.D Dillard). No clue if they're films that are oscar films or not but I thought that they're worth mentioning as I love some of the filmmakers behind those films.
Also Spaceman (Johan Renck), The Holdovers (Alexander Payne), Crimes of the Future (David Cronenberg), Napoleon (Ridley Scott), Master Gardener (Paul Schrader), Emancipation (Antoine Fuqua)
My current top 10 is- 1- Babylon Promising test screening reactions, great cast and fantastic director. 2- Killers Of The Flower Moon I think Martin Scorsese can’t make a bad film and the cast ensemble is absolutely brilliant and also the production team! 3- The Fabelmans Never doubt Steven Spielberg. 4- The Killer I think Netflix will prioritize this film and David Fincher is the best at directing the thriller genre so I’m sure this film will be fantastic. 5- Everything Everywhere All At Once An absolute masterpiece, and a film this critically acclaimed Will definitely be pushed my critics. Regarding Empire of Light, while I’m excited to see Colman and Firth, it is the holy trinity of director Sam Mendes with Roger Deakins and Thomas Newman that has created cinematic magic in recent years. I only hope that Newman signs on to compose the score, as he had been nominated more than a dozen times without a win.

Brendan’s got three movies coming this year. He’s the villain in Batgirl, he’ll be in Killers of the Flower Moon, and he’s the lead in an Aranofsky movie. The comeback story is too good. I’m already putting him as my number one. Also, The Woman King I think could easily be a huge thing, and Viola Davis is for sure a shoe-in for a nomination, but the issue seems to be that the story isn’t as true as they’re saying it is. Apparently it’s being framed as this African tribe fighting against the slave trade, even though they actually sold rival tribes to the English as slaves. I could see the Academy not wanting to touch that. Also also, I doubt The Things They Carried is coming out this year, but if it is, that could be a big contender.
Was the Social Network 100% accurate and total true and non-fiction? No! A lot of it was exaggerated, dramatized and hyped up but it still made for 1 heck of a movie far stronger and better and more entertaining than any of those best picture nominees last year. If you're looking for another reason to be cautious about not placing Bardo higher, there's also a lot of controversy over the produciton not following any kind of COVID protocol resulting in terrible working conditions and COVID-related deaths of crew members. I wonder if that even prevents Mexico from selecting it as their International Feature submission.
i really hope that Babylon lives up to my expectations. i think that the David O. Russell film has incredible potential, the key man being Emmanuel Lubezki. If O. Russell and the cast bring their A-game and all that is captured by Lubezki, imagine how amazing of a movie that could become!
David O Russel in general had his scandals before most of the big Oscar films he has made. So I don’t know why it would matter now. He doesn’t seem to be doing something controversial currently and people are willing to work with him.
Surprised to not see Triangle of Sadness anywhere on your list. Timely subject matter, Ruben Ostland is well respected, and it will be in english which helps with accessibility. I definitely think it could be one of the festival/indie breakouts this year.
I’m putting all my money on Everything Everywhere All at Once. I’m calling original screenplay, editing, best supporting actor (Ke Huy Quan), best actress (Michelle Yeoh), and picture 🤷🏽♂️💅🏽✨
@@seankoontz4235 a nomination would be great (honestly I want Everything Everywhere to win everything) but the list will be stacked this year with TITANS and the fact that Daniels are a duo might work against them and the fact that it’s only their second feature.
@@maplenerd22 yeah I had low hopes for the Daniels at first cause the director lineup seemed STACKED at the time (RIP Chazelle, Inarritu, Park Chan-Wook) and Best supporting…..I’m still in shock tbh
If Aster's comeback this year leans harder on drama/thriller than horror, we could be in with a shot at seeing him in the race (even if it's just for a best actor nod) 👀 crossing my fingers
I got to do background for Babylon . This movie had unlimited money and some weird shit go on. I got to see Diego do his thing and I smelled a nomination on set
As someone who doesn't know/pay attention nearly as much with festivals and upcoming releases but _does_ pay attention to books that are picked up and being adapted, it's really interesting to see these kind of lists, especially so far in advance from full release! And from people who aren't as into reading! (in general, not necessarily you in particular, to clarify.) There are so many adaptations I'm looking forward to- films and series- but for some info has been so limited and release dates seem all over the place / constantly changing.
About killers of the flower moon, after reading the book, the character Jesse Plemmons is portraying only shows up in the second half of the book cause he is the FBI Agent that will uncover the crimes in the film, BUT he is the central part of the story so I would assume Jesse Plemmons will be considered the Leading Actor, and I can see Robert and Leo as supporting actors honestly, unless they film everything from Leo's character perspective, whcih I don't think is happening. Canterburry Glass and Bardo will defintely be in the cerimony. If not in the BP category, they will certainly have other nominations, maybe directing for inarritu, and cinematography for Lubezki is 100% happening cause we all know how good that guy is. It's going to be good to see Inarritu and Chivo in the Oscars again.
Bardo isn’t coming to the Oscars, Inarritu’s lack of Covid safety onset literally killed people. Absolutely no way they embrace that film, not in today’s climate
A great list of movies there. Hopefully it’s going to be a great year for film. Having seen the theatre productions of both The Son (in 2019) and Allelujah (in 2018) in London, I admit I never thought, oh I can see them as films. Mind you, I hadn’t considered The Father and look how great that was! The Son is the more likely I agree. It’s certainly an powerful / emotional piece like The Father was, although the other could get some BAFTA buzz, as the playwright Alan Bennett is a National treasure here and it was both funny and tinged with moments of sadness too.
Stupidly early 2024 Oscars predictions: Dune part 2 Oppenheimer Maestro Next goal wins Poor things (only guaranteed) The color purple musical Letters from rosemary Ridley Scott’s napoleon Roosevelt Barbie
its sad in terms of their receptions but to me i really liked bardo and babylon and it just seems like those movies had a bad run but these directors havent lost their charm and overall energy - i dont know what you guys think
I think the only BIG MISS you have is My Policeman, they're supposedly giving it a fall release. It has Harry Styles so it's gonna do good at the box office and more importantly, it's Amazons Studios major awards player that we know of as of now. I would definietly have it in my top 20 at least. Another thing you forgot to mention, just like some are having some doubts with Canterbury Glass being big due to Russel's past actions it can somehow affect Iñárritu's Bardo since people were saying some crew members died of covid cause he wasn't taking precautions you add this to The Revenant rumours of people working under hard climate conditions it's gonna be though for the film if all these things are put out on the spotlight if the film starts having buzz. the film doesn't have distributor yet which it's not letal but weird since it's Iñarritu.
Here's mine (Edited) Best Picture: Babylon Best Director: Damien Chazelle Best Actor: Hugh Jackman Best Actress: Ana De Armas Best Supporting Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio Best Original Screenplay: Nope Best Adapted Screenplay: Killers of The Flower Moon Best Original Score: Empire of Light Best Original Song: TBA - Top Gun Maverick As for the technical awards, I feel like Avatar 2 is about to sweep there. You saw how much they loved the first film.
Here after a SHITLOAD of stuff. Babylon was too divisive and missed picture, Flower Moon got delayed, Bardo tanked, Empire Of Light fell hard, and The Son was one of the worst reviewed movies of the year. And Top Gun: Maverick is the frontrunner to win best picture. Never would've guessed ANY of that would've happened.
The book ‘women talking’ is a masterpiece, very dialogue heavy so could be a great adapted screenplay. It’s set in a Mennonite community where the women are being systematically abused and have to choose whether to stay or leave into a world they are totally unprepared to navigate, so very topical and hard-hitting
You know there's gonna be some great stuff this year when Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are gonna release a movie in the same year, it might be a tough competition between those two 😂
It usually looks great at this point of year but usually some are going to crabs and burn. Either with quality or they don’t get any box office so they get ignored or they are moved to next year. I think Woman King with its writer and that it doesn’t seem to adress historical reality (the country depicted here enslaved other Africans and sold them to Europeans) makes it feel more intended for entertainment than awards. Babylon could miss because of the rating. Whale could be controversial pontentially.
Definitely some good choices, look out for A Pale Blue Eye and if it releases Oppenheimer could be in large contention. Only thing holding it back from that could be the cast. With so many big names how will they all work together.

i think that the David O.
Very excited for The Son! Absolutely loved The Father so I’m expecting big things
I’m putting all my money on Everything Everywhere All at Once. I’m calling original screenplay, editing, best supporting actor (Ke Huy Quan), best actress (Michelle Yeoh), and picture 🤷🏽♂️💅🏽✨
Does it have any chance at a Director nomination (cause it deserves it), or is there not enough room?
@@seankoontz4235 a nomination would be great (honestly I want Everything Everywhere to win everything) but the list will be stacked this year with TITANS and the fact that Daniels are a duo might work against them and the fact that it’s only their second feature.
Impressive. You called it. The only two you missed were best supportive actress and director.
@@maplenerd22 yeah I had low hopes for the Daniels at first cause the director lineup seemed STACKED at the time (RIP Chazelle, Inarritu, Park Chan-Wook) and Best supporting…..I’m still in shock tbh
i love this in retrospect. y’all like MAYBE key huy quan and michelle could get into the top 5… MAYBE
Who else is here in January 2023?
me - this is both so epic and tragic
Me lol
Just to clarify, "Showing Up" stars
Michelle Williams, André 3000, Judd Hirsch, and Amanda Plummer.
Dear Academy, give Thomas Newman an Oscar! Hope this is HIS film
TEAM MICHELLE YEOH
As someone who doesn't know/pay attention nearly as much with festivals and upcoming releases but _does_ pay attention to books that are picked up and being adapted, it's really interesting to see these kind of lists, especially so far in advance from full release! And from people who aren't as into reading! (in general, not necessarily you in particular, to clarify.) There are so many adaptations I'm looking forward to- films and series- but for some info has been so limited and release dates seem all over the place / constantly changing.
Props for making the best surfshark ad I've seen
Don’t forget, James Cameron is the master of sequels.
The ad part was spot on. I normally just skip it but this time I watched the whole damn thing.
@@Lamidemonami7891 Damn, sad to learn those news, had no idea about it.
I need Blonde to win bp so we can have the harshest contrast between 2 years
yes!
We already got Oliver! and Midnight Cowboy right afterwards lol
Stupidly early 2024 Oscars predictions:
Dune part 2
Oppenheimer
Maestro
Next goal wins
Poor things (only guaranteed)
The color purple musical
Letters from rosemary
Ridley Scott’s napoleon
Roosevelt
Barbie
looking back on it, interesting how so many great directors films flopped this year
from Sam Mendes to AGI and Damien Chazelle out of all people...
its sad in terms of their receptions but to me i really liked bardo and babylon and it just seems like those movies had a bad run but these directors havent lost their charm and overall energy - i dont know what you guys think
The films for 2022 look great. Much better then 2021
2021 was a shit show
@@pb.j.1753 and 2020
@@pb.j.1753 2021 was a great year
@@blackguyofthesouth2161 where?
Great rundown! If Northman is this year’s Green Knight, I would be very happy because that was my favorite film of 2021.
Your ad is peak cinema
And peak acting
damn looks like we have a great year of movies to look forward to
Anything by Lanthimos, and anything with Olivia Colman. I’m there.
Calling "Fabelmans" the next "Belfast" is an insult. I hope the former is a lot deeper than that.
Couldn’t agree more with what you said 🥴. Belfast was the blandest sh*t ever.
You know Oscars 2022 were terrible when they crowned Belfast with Best Original Screenplay. A disgrace.
Everything, Everywhere, All at once should be the big winner this year.
Here's mine (Edited)
Best Picture: Babylon
Best Director: Damien Chazelle
Best Actor: Hugh Jackman
Best Actress: Ana De Armas
Best Supporting Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio
Best Original Screenplay: Nope
Best Adapted Screenplay: Killers of The Flower Moon
Best Original Score: Empire of Light
Best Original Song: TBA - Top Gun Maverick
As for the technical awards, I feel like Avatar 2 is about to sweep there. You saw how much they loved the first film.
The Killer was shot 5 minutes from my house! Was really cool to see it be filmed
Never would've guessed ANY of that would've happened.
that sponsorship skit was CINEMA
I’m predicting double Best Actor nominations for you guys for the Surfshark ad
You're getting a like just for the Surfshark ad. Haven't even got to the rest yet, but it's off to a great start.
So I never watch the sponsorship ads but y’all did such a great job that I had to watch it
It looks like this could be some good movies coming out. I would love it if Brendan Fraiser is nominated. I think he's an underrated actor.
Coming back to this to see what you said about EEOAO.
Okay but legitimately that was such a great sponsor video
My first impression is Everything Everywhere All at Once should get Michelle Yeoh nominated for Best Actress.
If that ad was anything to go by, I’m very excited for the sponsorship era of the channel.
Watching these now and I gotta say, not too shabby!!
Sounds really intriguing!
Damn. Didn't realize how many potentially great things we have coming up this year. And I thought last year was kind of stack.
Great video guys. Hope you follow it up with an early predictions Acting Categories 🎭

You should do a reaction video to your early predictions from last year.
A lot of movies to look forward to, thank you for this!
I was excited before the 2022 oscars but I found most of the winners to be meh 😭 I hope the 2023 Oscars’ would be better and actually less predictable
I want Blonde to work so much but whenever I have hopes there’s some negative news coming out about the project .......I’m still keeping my hopes up till the trailer
Andrew Dominik directing though, so I’m hopeful
I feel like it might be this year's Joker. A NC-17 movie that will divide critics with audience but it will be loved by the award ceremony.
@@madman00774 Joker wasn’t NC-17 though
@@TheClubOrtiz Ikr it was rated R but again it divided critics with audience because of its violence.
@@madman00774 true. But there is a difference between violence and straight up sexual assault and rape. Most people can handle violence, but not many will be able to stomach watching rape and sexual assault which Blonde has a lot of. Not to mention Netflix wasn’t happy with how Blonde turned out so I doubt they are gonna put much or any campaigning into it, at this point it will be lucky to receive a nomination. The only one I see it getting is for lead actress and that’s it
Why don't you think Michelle Yeoh will make it in? I think she is a shoe in! The enthusiasm for her performance will not diminish and she will definitely be in the Oscar race next year.
A big one that could be coming is the Chevalier film, starring Kelvin Harrison Jr. it’s being pushed by Searchlight and it’s a period biopic
Here are some cast members of The Zone of Interest. There are no internationally known actors:
Medusa Knopf
Daniel Holzberg
Sascha Maaz
Max Beck
Wolfgang Lampl
Johann Karthaus
Ralph Herforth
Freya Kreutzkam
Perhaps worth keeping an eye out for these ones too!
The Menu
Master Gardener
The way of the wind
Crimes of the future
Men
I’d keep my eyes are on my policeman as well! It’s probably Amazon’s main contender
Haha that was the only ad I didn't skip ahead for. So good!
A few that y’all did not mention that could be big awards contenders are The Way of The Wind (new Terrence Malik film) Knives Out 2 (could be better than the first, first film also did get an original screenplay nomination), Father Stu (Mark Wahlberg goes through weight transformations in this film, could be awards worthy) and Spaceman (Netflix drama starring Adam Sandler)
Father Stu isn’t gonna be an awards player I can tell ya that much, also Spaceman had some test screenings and it wasn’t that good
@@TheClubOrtiz hate to see it 😪
@@connorstevens8020 but we’ll see, It does look interesting so I will see it no matter what
