Once again what seemed to be a brutally honest video. Well Done! I have a Proto driver 2 Gen3 hybrids as well as 52 and 56 degree wedges. I was fitted for all of these and I believe the key to PXG and their success is the fitting process. I have been playing golf for 35 years and I have never hit clubs as well as these PXG's. The feel is amazing and the consistency boggles my mind. In my mind they have become the standard bearer in club fitting.

Bought a set of 0311 XF with the MMT 70 shaft this winter. Played 3 rounds now and love them. The Gen4 look great, but can’t imagine better performance. Also, got the 0211 driver and that thing is awesome for the money. I’m a PXG convert.

Tom --- thanks for feedback on the 0311XF and 0211 driver. What's your approx 7 iron distance / swing speed if you know between your old clubs and your new 0311XP and any comment on holding greens with 7 iron? Forgiveness etc....

@@JohnnyDSR I have the 0311 XF (bot close out in Feb) which is a 30 degree 7 iron vs the new XP’s 7 that is 28 degrees. I fly the 7 XF right at 147 on a good weather day, but at least 142 on cooler-wind days. I have a new set of Srixon Z4’s with 28 degree 7 iron that I fly 4-5 years further. My swing speed varies but is in the 79-85 range with 7 iron. Both sets are great, but love the feel of the PXGs. Hope this helps.

Thank you The Average Golfer for all your great videos. If I may make a suggestion to make them even better! I would look into getting a ground mic that will just pick up the strike of the ball, as your your clip on mic picks up way too much noise from your jacket during the swing. Keep the great content coming!

I'm a bogey golfer. I bought an early set of Gen1 XF steel shaft irons when the brand debuted. I enjoyed them for a few years, then bought a set of Gen2 XPs with graphite steel shafts. I enjoy those, as well and my swing has improved. In considering Gen4, sure the XP model is advertised to play farther, but look at the specs: Ah-hah! The shafts are 1/2" longer and the lofts are 3 degrees stronger! I'm not very tall and not getting any younger, so I'm not looking for irons with longer shafts and strong lofts. If I upgrade to Gen 4, I'm anxious to take a look at the P model. Still forgiving, but the shaft lengths and lofts remain the same. If I hit them better than my Gen2 XPs, I will put'em in the bag!

Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering if the G4 series were a substantial improvement over the G3. Does not really sound like it. I wanted to add that you do not have any reason to apologize for your PXG reviews. I believe your reviews are honest. I can tell you I would have never gone to PXG if I did not get to hit a used set at the range. From the first strike I felt this was the club for me and by the time I got to the PXG's I had been looking for several weeks hitting the MP20 line, Apex and TM. None of them did for me what the 1st strike with the PXG did. I will also say I got the G3's during the big sale at the end of 2020. They were actually less expensive than any of than the above irons. So, I share your enthusiasm for the PXG brand and I am not a shill. Neither are you! Keep up the good, honest work.

Funny because I searched for two years for a replacement for my trusty MP-64s (just not good enough to play them anymore). After trying MP-20 HMB and Mavrik Pro for a few months each and not getting along with them, I ended up buying the PXG Gen3 combo set (P 5-6 + T 7-PW). I wish I'd stuck with the P on the 7-iron for a little more forgiveness but overall I feel like I've finally found a set I can play another 5+ years.

Just got fitted for irons, wedges, driver and a 5 wood. I went in to fit the 2021 0211 but hitting a 7 iron 185 yards was a bit much. I ended up with 4-PW gen2 0311 P, 50, 54, 60 forged wedges , the 0211 driver and a 5 wood. The fitting experience was awesome fun and learned a ton about my golf swing, ball flight, etc. I would recommend fittings for everybody. Just fit for the gen4 0311t. They have not came in yet but I do have a comment about the fitting. My fitter was great and the facility was great. They only have 7 irons during the fitting! I play a 3 iron but I couldn’t hit a long iron during the fitting. I may have wanted a blended set with more forgiveness, security in the long iron but i could not try it before I bought it. The gen 4 head weight is outstanding though. Each gram added or subtracted was very noticeable. I’m happy with my purchase but for the amount paid I should be able to test long irons at minimum. I could got to any dicks sporting goods and hit a taped 3 iron. Yet not at the the top notch PXG?

Love the look of the Gen 4 and Gen 3. Not a fan of the 0211. I did try the Gen 3 a year ago and I felt like it wasn't as soft as my Miura's. I'll have to try the Gen 4's when I get a chance. Would love to see what you think of them compared to the feel of a Miura club.

I would agree. I have the Miura CB 301 and love the clubs but I didn't want to change until I found something as soft. I got fitted for the 0311 P Gen 4 yesterday and they're softer than my Miuras and offer greater forgiveness, higher flight, and hate to say it a cheaper than my Miuras.

So I’m still confused on the differences between the three models. Is this correct:
XP = most forgiving and strongest lofted (for high handicappers)
P= medium forgiving and medium lofted (for med handicappers)
T= least forgiving and least lofted (for low handicappers)

Have a question for Andy and the audience of this video. I was fitted earlier in the year and ended up with a set of Gen3 P with the steelfiber shafts, 5-P. Interested in getting a slightly longer iron to slot between the 5 iron and my 21* hybrid (old Titleist 816 that I just can't remove from the bag!). Hit the hybrid 200, the 5 iron 180. Thinking about an XP iron with the same shaft. Would the 4 be too long, could the 5 in the XP actually be the better progression? Or should I get the 4 but have it bent slightly weaker? Any other recommendations? Thanks!!

I have them in both the 2011 DC (MMT)and also picked up their new 3x forged 0211 XT Elevate 95 ..... they really perform great, feel great, look great, sound great and are priced great! PXG seems to have made a strategic decision to commit to provide tiered offerings but without sacrificing quality. Sure... less tungsten fine tuning in 0211 but hey.... that produces less cost! Their may be a method to their madness --- Their real intellectual property is how they have advanced the elastomer technology to support such a thin forged face while enhancing sound and feel.

In fact I think they take off some $$ / club if you have the fitter help you and then place the order with him after shaft selection. What aerotech shafts/flex were you playing with in each club? There should have been a lot more of a gap between the xp/p models in the dry data. 3° gap and only 3 yards isn't right. As far as the fitting, the weight will be a big help. They don't swingweight(I've owned 2 sets and had to do it myself) which is strange considering all the weights in the previous 0311 models. At least now they will try which should help with people who like a certain feel in their irons.

I have the Gen 3P 4-P and 0211 wedges, and frankly I can’t recall how many iron sets I’ve gone through looking for that “perfect” club. I was fitted by Scott at ADS Golf in San Diego, and we settled on the Aerotech i95 R flex shafts, I have to say that these Gen 3 irons are the best performing irons I’ve ever played. It would be interesting to see a compare between Gen 3 vs Gen4.

@The Average Golfer This is the 3rd time I've watched this. In your opinion, is it worth an additional $1000 to get the Gen 4s, or can I save $1000 and keep with the Gen 3s I just ordered? That is how much additional it would cost me to order the Gen 4s. My Gen 3s arrive tomorrow, so I'm in the 30 day window. It would cost me an additional 15% to send back, so the Gen 4s would now cost me about $1200. So, is there enough tech and difference between the Gen 3s and 4s to justify paying the extra price? Currently play the original 0311t, went to club Champion and got fitted since it’s been 5-6 years or a bit more. The new 0311t actually had worse numbers for me then the original 0311t, too high of launch, lower spin (5,600-6,200(shaft dependent)) and much worse dispersion no matter what shaft it was paired with. Any shaft that dropped the launch and peak height to a more normal range gave me even lower spin numbers and worse dispersion. Got the best numbers out of the Srixon ZX7 and Taylor P770. Decided on the ZX7, since it had a slightly lower dispersion. Really went in set to buy another set of PXG 0311t’s, the 0311t version 3 gave me better numbers then the newest 4. The ZX7 just gave me the best dispersion with a nice bump in distance while keeping my spin (close to 7,000 with a 7) and not throwing the ball sky high into the air. But I get that I’m at 91-2mph with a 7 iron, 175 yard carry and a 2.3 handicap so not the average golfer. The look and feel of the new PXG are very nice just didn’t perform well for, the importance of a good fitting.

PXG are clearly the golf industry's most disruptive brand. I love what Mr. Parson and crew has done to the big fellas in the last 6 months.
All the big players jacked the prices of their offerings when they saw PXG getting traction at such incredibly high prices. Some irons from the big 4 doubled in sale price without any substantial gains (other than lipstick). Many average golfers were caught up in that squeeze and resented the needless increase in cost. PXG and covid seem to have been good for the golf business.
I had some gen 1 0311 and 0811X. I liked them but found the lack of feedback a bit disappointing. I bought blades to improve my ball striking. I fell in love with blades and just kept playing them. I didn't try Gen 2 but I did get a chance to hit Gen 3. I found them too spring face, strong lofted (7 iron carry 187). I just stuck with my blades with incredibly accurate distance and disppersion.
I know many golfers that paid full retail on Gen 3 only to discover very deeply discounted PXG clubs have hit the market in the past 6 months. The exclusive feeling of players swinging clubs 3x as pricey as your buddy was lost, seemingly, over night.
Now the industry needs to carefully consider how they can sell their gear at much higher prices than PXG's low priced line. I suspect many sleepless nights in the Callaway,Taylormade, Mizuno and Titleist marketing wank departments over this development. They were probably hoping the lower priced PXG line would be crap.
I'd like to think this entire plan was the long game cooked up long ago at PXG HQ.
From all accounts, the cheaper PXG gear is great gear (I have not hit any of them) so its unlikely the company will suffer the fate of Founders club and Wilson as the once great company destined to Wal-Mart box sets. One thing is certain: it's an interesting time to be a spectator in the world of golf gear! Thanks for the thoughtful video and ensuing discussion to come.
