Keith does like to have fun with the audience at times. His introduction to On Green Dolphin Street is magnificent. Liquid, moving, flowing, rich crystalline jewels pouring from his fingers. Most top jazz musicians don't play this tune, as they consider it to be a more intermediate level tune..not very hip or technically advanced. But Keith has a way of taking any piece of music and making it sophisticated, beautiful and totally original, yet keeping with the compositional intent of the song composer. I've played this tune a thousand times. I've heard it a thousand times. I've never been able to play it with this kind of elegance and beautiful technical sophistication. I hope to in the future. Until then, I will continue to study Keith's approach, as I have been studying him for years.
what a nice exchange with the audience as he's developing an improv with on green dolphin street, one of his favorites I believe. Thanks for the post!!
@jennifer It's because keith plays the standards with all the seriousness of a playing child, and not the seriousness of someone who is bored of playing the same chords progression over and over again.

He certainly taps into something when he plays.
