I have found this to be the most comprehensive and complete set of modes and troubleshooting techniques that is available on UA-cam anywhere. Very good work Ali. My unit is nearly identical to yours. It still does not boot up. And I am certain it is not a hardware issue. I feel this may not be an "off the shelf" retail unit. Certain commands I entered at the #root command prompt were not recognized. I know I was using proper syntax. I sure wish I could enlist your help to get my unit booting again. Regardless. Very Well Done presentation. Unbelievable that "Trolls" have clicked thumbs down button. 1/9/21 UPDATE: Problem solved. Unit runs extremely well now.

Thank you Charles. Your comment is nice and encouraging. It is often a good idea to repair devices, such as computers. However, it is wiser sometimes to purchase a new one. Old computers are slow and frustrating!

@@AliMirmehdi UPDATED COMMENT: After many years of PC only philosophy, I could not let this mid 2012 Macbook pro go. For a small investment I now have a 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM (Crucial brand SSD and RAM) and I found it a very quick simple process to load High Sierra OSx. Once realizing how fast and stable this laptop now performs, I also replaced the battery. So for around 235 bucks and some labor I have an new looking, great little laptop. Takes around 23 seconds to boot from power up. Ali Mirmehdi thank you for the inspiration. Once you suggested just replacing the laptop, it triggered my natural ability to take on a challenge. The Macbook Pro....earlier model's ...are well worth upgrading. So surprised at the performance!

@Liam Coyle Try finding a non-Apple authorized repair tech to have a look at it. A lot of those people have stacks of these piled up with good used parts and can often do a quick repair by swapping out a PC board. Not the ideal troubleshooting style, but it can often get a "dead" unit up and running. Also. Be certain the little gold connectors on the power jack are clean. Lastly, a completely dead, damaged battery will prevent a power on to occur. Battery swaps on a mid 2012 style Macbook pro is about a 10 minute job. Batteries, new, can be had for less than 50 bucks. Just food for thought before you give up on a potentially good unit.

Mine, 2014, is not fully booting up either. Apple said it was the logic board. It just stopped working during a Zoom Guitar lesson I was giving. The camera light was still on, but the screen was black. Not sure if my student could see me or not as I couldn’t see or hear him.
      What are your thoughts?

Thank you so much!!! This was a life saver. Shift + Command + V + power button worked! My battery was completely dead so in order for this command to work I had to press all right after I plug in the charger with the green light on before it turns orange. Also I lift the power button and kept holding on the other keys till the laptop was completely turned on. When it’s on don’t rush and use it yet if it stays on 0% battery, because it will die eventually from any use. Just put it quickly in sleep mood and leave it till the battery picks up some charge! Good luck with your problem & thanks again Ali.

3- whilst holding the power button press all the other buttons with your hand.
Idc this worked for me LOOL

Thank you, Ali. Solution 1 worked for my old MacBook Pro. I had recently replaced the original battery, which was very dead, as I understood that this can be an issue with stopping old Macbook Pros from booting up. Anyway, it had appeared that replacing the battery had solved the problem. However, I started getting issues with it booting up again. I will eventually replace my old laptop, but for the time being... :-) Thanks again.

Dear Mr Mirmehdi, really, really thank you for uploading this clip. It really helped. I had been trying hours or even days trying to solve the problems by searching through Google search, but they were all of no use. And I was just about thinking getting an SATA-USB cable to just get the data out from the harddrive or bringing it to Apple for a checkup (this could cost a fortune?). You really save my day. Cheers, Dave

    Alt + command + P + R + power button

I just held down: shift - control- alt- cmd and pressed the restart button. It worked... thank you very much.
I didn't have to watch the whole video.

Have a grey screen with pink line upon attempted boot, then completely grey screen after asking me to login. Have tried ALL of your solutions, and non of them work (the last one - shift cmd v and power button, does absolutely nothing...I'm presuming it's a hardware and bios problem?) Have only just got it today (used but upgraded and reset).
