- TPC Harding Park, which was named for President Warren G. Harding, is a municipal golf course owned by the City of San Francisco. Set against the tree-lined Lake Merced, the Harding Park Course layout features soft bunkers and thin, ribbon-like fairways. Located in the heart of the city, it was about a 20 minute drive from the airbnb I rented in San Francisco. TPC Harding Park was designed and converted from a lettuce farm - you read that right, a lettuce farm - to a golf course in 1925 by Willie Watson and Sam Whiting. After it had fallen into disrepair and was even used as a parking lot for the 1998 U.S. Open at neighboring Olympic Club, the course was renovated in 2003. Since the renovation, TPC Harding Park has hosted several major tournaments including the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship, 2009 President’s Cup and the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play.
For the 2020 PGA Championship, the course was stretched out 400 yards to a 7,234-yard Par 70, with new tees added to many holes. The players were forced to navigate hitting narrow fairways followed by approach shots into Bentgrass greens averaging 7,000 square feet in size. As you'll see from my round, the rough at TPC Harding Park is thick and punishing, and the rough when I played it was nowhere near as long as it was for the 2020 PGA Championship. Nevertheless, the ball always seemed to nestle down and any shot from the rough played about 2 clubs longer.

the great Monterey Cypress is what you hit into :) only grow in that area, mid to northern Cali coast, reach almost 200' tall, Olympic has amazing ones also. thanks for this video, loved it, great camera work. Did you film the back 9??

Love Harding Park and those cypress trees! This was part of my college graduation golf trip back in 2014, and damn was it worth it! Love being able to reminisce with your killer viddy. Flyovers? ✅ Great Golf? ✅
Same the trees are stunning! What an awesome graduation trip. One question for you - back in 2014 were you launching Terminator bombs off the tee like you do now? Felt fortunate to get the flyovers since I was on such a tight schedule. And I flew my drone right into a tree in the parking lot. Not sure how it survived but it’s still working!

Yes short game helped out a lot. Hahaha, I feel you. Golf in California is not cheap, esp when the course has hosted a major. Your money will go much farther in Thailand, as you know. You’re a wise man to vacation there.

@@thehairygolfer That’s a big surprise alright haha. But honestly, moving to Thailand makes a lot of sense - the weather, cost of living, quality of life, etc. Yes mate get that short game sharpened. Takes so much pressure off the rest of your game when you can rely on it

Thanks Fredrick, felt fortunate to play another incredible course. No sadly I had to bail on the back nine! That’s what happens when you squeeze golf into your trip last minute. Honestly I was pretty lucky to get a tee time at all

Well I do need to return because I never finished my round so … if we were to go, I’d make sure that we also played Pasatiempo since I visited the clubhouse and flew the drone but didn’t get to play it. Sounds like we need to make a trip!
