I kept a smallmouth bass for a short period of time. He by far had the best personality of any fish I ever kept. I never knew bass changed colors as much as they do until I kept one. He would get so excited when any of us walked into his room. He was very similar to an Oscar in so many ways. I would love to see you do a native tank from your area. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see your next HUGE project.

I used to feed my big Oscar grasshoppers and crickets sometimes, he loved them. An Oscar will grab live bugs the second they hit the water. Tasty treats.
How do you have your filtration setup for this tank? Looking for ideas for my 125 gallon tank
I also have 6 oscars and was SO stoked when I found out you were getting these guys. I love watching them grow. I want to breed mine.

I got my first Oscar at 3" (smooth red) then an Albino Tiger 3" and finally a Tiger Oscar 4" all eating everything I put in the tank. I love them all but would love more but only have 150 gallon and they are with a female Green Terror, Jack Dempsey and after quarantine two True Parrot fish lots of water changes but I want a busy tank.
I love oscars and miss the one I had. Amber passed away in February. Still cry thinking of her. Definitely getting a pair soon. Their personalities and antics are amusing and fascinating.

I had 2 oscars 20 years ago, after they died we kept al kind of different fish. But once you owned and loved Oscars there is no way back. We currently have six baby's in a big tank in our bedroom. When they are big enough we move them to our living room tank so they have plenty of space to grow out even more. Love to see them grow up. They are special, but you have to know what you are getting into haha. Luckely my husband is as crazy as i am when it comes to fish keeping🙈
It’s funny you mentioned the grumpy look - my Uncle had an Oscar when I was a kid and my Nanna called it Mr Glum!

I love your Oscars, this to me is your BEST tank. If i could have a pack of fish, it would be a pack of Oscars. How Ara they doing now, 2 years after? I am sure I am not the only one wondering. LOVE THE VID. THANK YOU. I would of enjoyed the vid more if you would of put the camera down, you are so full of energy and you do move the camera a lot. 8 out of 10 on video recording :)

My oscars are the only fish I'll never change or get rid of. I'd had them for 3 years and it funny to trip people out when I can pat them or how gentle they are taking food off me

I miss my Oscar fish...! I had an albino and a tiger...! After my albino dead I was deviated and decided to donate my big Oscar to a local pet store for their display tank and start a Discus fish tank...!

@@thekingofdiy I know your renting and inside city limits- but could you drill a well? I don’t know what the cost to drill is vs cost of city water and declorinating...but it sure would make your life more simple....
I love oscars they are my favorite fish they are so much fun. When he died i cried so hard i never loved a fish that much. Long fin still happen in nature but its not effective
its so much nicer to be able to go to work with the new location instead of walking next door or downstairs

My Oscar by himself is a lot more aggressive! Jumps and attacks my plastic lid at the signs of bubbles because he thinks it’s a live goldfish

Can anybody here that does DIY help me out a bit, is it possible to build a 120-200g tank for less than 1000? or a possible quota on what it would cost to make a tank like this?
It's kind of crazy how quickly we can screw with thousands of years of evolution. What 50 years of breeding in captivity and we made those crazy long fin varieties. Crazy to think of what will be out there in another 50 years of selective breeding.
we've already done most that is ethically possible with fish breeds.

When you mentioned them laying down all I could think about was my clown loaches. Gave me several scares at first but now it's just loaches being loaches.
I used to have a clown loach in with my Oscar. No issues they left each other alone. Another cool fish. ✔️
Imagine creating an army of Oscars, then going out to rule each and every ocean. So much of power.
Granted they’d all die from being in saltwater
Still... would be kinda cool. 😝
I mean they are brackish fish, so theoretically you could eventually acclimate them to complete saltwater so your dreams aren't far off.

I have a red oscar in a 75 gallon tank with a jaguar cichlid. The oscars are cool but the jaguar cichlids are way cooler though in my humble honest opinion. You should get a jagaur cichlid. Youll like it way better
I named my 6in Oscar KEVIN - eating blood worms and whole live goldfish feeders at least 3x times a day. Along with my 6 gymnothorax tile (Indian mud moray) eels !!! Brackish system of course
I agree with you, Oscars are awesome! I love Oscars. But I keep mine with two Angel fish, a Plexo, and a Shark fish and they get along with each other fine. I have enjoyed my Oscar ever since I bought him, one of the best investment I ever made!! Keep up the videos, thanks for sharing the knowledge!!
Had beautiful Red Oscar&I wouldn't always do it. But I'd hold a large pellet about 3-4" above the water&he'd take it w/o fail every time.
Example of how smart they really are is when he'd see me grab the net it immediately amp him up knowing he's about to be fed. Buddy thought it was pretty cool or tell how many times he tried over the years either. Before finally giving up as my Oscar simply ignored him because he wasn't me.

Oscar toy: Supplies: ping pong ball, length of fishing line, casting plug(like a rubber sinker), aquarium silicone. tie fishing line to plug, then attach other end of fishing line to ping ball ball using the silicone. Length of fishing line depends on height of aquarium.....our Oscars had hours of fun with this toy.

My parrot fishes are constantly fighting among themselves and with other cichlids for the apex position. While my real top dog Oscar swims around unchallenged and unopposed.

( I was lucky to find a home for my last one when he grew out )

I’m currently on a fishing trip in Florida and I can say that you don’t want to mess with Oscar fish pectoral spines. I’ve got two deep gashes in the palm of my hand from one of these bad boys.

I personally dont care for larger fish, id rather have an aquarium that size dedicated to a large number of smaller fish, but that is just me.

I always have a few giant danios to clean up my oscars mess. Danios are too fast for my oscar to even try to get them., i found that feeding crustacean really helps the red color
what do you feed them my oscar is smaller then yours and ive had him for almost a year he stop growing after i stop feeding him live and now a feed him shrimp and tilapia it would be help full.
