I'm working on getting me one as we speak, shopping online. tried to buy those small camp stoves but they're all sold out, while these are available online for as cheap as 20-50€. Now i liked these for a while but I never thought a 100 year old heating instrument would end up being the most effective and cheapest way to provide heating backup for winter of 2021. But 2021 being a crazy year with energy crisis in Europe and possible blackouts, I'm snatching one while I can!
Awesome video, sir! I just got my first Perfection heater, model 1703 (semi-rare it seems) in great condition and it was painted white porcelain. Paid $44 for 5 gallons of Klean Strip K-1 as kerosene is hard to find here. Just got 5 gallons of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel for $10.50 and added 1 pint of 91% Isopropyl alcohol which preserves the wick and reduces odor, so far no smell at all. I got that tip on ULSD from other videos, supposed to burn longer and even cleaner than K-1 Kero. Stay warm friends! Perfections are amazing to this day.
Burning diesel in them smells a hell of alot better than that stinky kerosene. You have to add diesel fuel additive to it (that keeps trucks from gelling in the winter)
thundersnowstorm it would have a run away flame if alcohol is used. If there was a way to convert it some how it would be a cleaner burn, and probably longer burn time.
They are great heaters. I have several different models now, they are all older than the hills but work perfectly well.. I do have a 630 too.. cool to have it lit up at night, It leaves a geometric pattern on the ceiling.
@@kathyperkins2911 There's a federal tax on kerosene because it can be used as fuel in diesel trucks that drive on the roads. In order to NOT pay that tax, they require red dye be added to the fuel to indicate that it is NOT to be used in over-the-road vehicles. Theoretically, that makes it a little cheaper. You may have seen signs for "Off-Road Diesel" - it has red dye added to it. For heaters, the problem is that the dye clogs-up the wick in modern heaters and makes them smoke and smell.
what are your thoughts on carbon monoxide are these producing this dangerous gas ?? ....is that a yellow flame ?? otherwise love these heaters....thanks from uk.................
Yes carbon monoxide is a risk with any karosene heater or gas heaters, very low risk with these in large areas, a smaller room could be a potential danger for carbon monoxide. If heater is in a smaller room, make sure to leave the door or window cracked open for fresh oxygen. I had one of these in my small bedroom I left my window cracked open to let in air. I did have a carbon monoxide detector present for safety.
@@slatend883 Well...I have used kerosene heaters for over 30 years. I always used the fiberglass wicks. Kerosene is a low grade of petroleum but since it was cheap and people were using it to heat in the winter they have jacked the price. So...I wanted a heater with the cotton wick. I have heard the cotton won't get stopped up as easily as the fiberglass...if you add a tbl spoon of 91% alcohol. Anyway I have 2 of the perfection heaters and I love them! They work great after you learn how to use them.
@@slatend883 Thank you! I did a burn of the wick to level it off and after it heats up on initial start up I cut them back till the flame licks just over the edge of the disperser and they work great with no smoke or smell.
Certainly they can be restored. Sandblast and paint the "chimney" and top cap with high temp paint. The lower part can be painted with normal stuff as it doesn't experience the heat that the upper parts do.
Gotta love the perfections. DAMN KEROSENE $4.00/gallon, why bother with such crap if its overpriced. $2.09/$2.19 for ulsd diesel fuel (RED DYE) I WOULDN'T WANT TO BURN THAT CRAP ANYWAY (KEROSENE) IT STINKS WORSE THEN DIESEL. diesel alot cleaner burning, and hardly no smell when putting out the perfection. AW ITS SO NICE WHEN THE KEROSENE PUMP AT THE GAS STATION LOOKS VERY CUTE JUST SITTING THERE!! must be a lawn ordiment!!!
@@slatend883 I got my off market payed 40 dollar for it, It's in great condition black and purple just can't find a wick for it. Can wait to get it going.
GOT ONE perfection, may have to get another one off ebay sometime. very relible kerosene heater, HAVE FUN PAYING $4.00 A GALLON FOR KEROSENE FOLKS!!!! i am using something different and it costs only 1/2 of kerosene and works just fine in my perfection heater. ULSD. off road diesel NO NEED TO ADD any additives from other videos, i just poor it straight in and light it up. DAMN KEROSENE FUEL, who would want to buy that CRAP ANYWAY??? $4.00 when you can get off road diesel fuel for $2,09/$2.19gallon? BUT WHEN I STOP AT THE GAS STATION, THE KEROSENE PUMP does look nice sitting there though. heheh THEY MUST OF PUT IT THERE so it looks nice.
Michael Gibbons these older ones runs diesel great, that is what I use in my shop, I run a little methyl alcohol to keep the Wicks clean and keep the water out, diesel fuel around here sucks it's got a lot of water in it.
i get home heating oil in a 55 gallon drum when they fill the tank up for the oil furnace, and i have no issues with it. If you have a oil furnace, get a 55 gallon drum and have your heating oil company fill the drum up when they fill your tank up. (RED DYE DIESEL FUEL) lot cheaper then on road diesel fuel. Thats what oil furnaces burn, Forget getting diesel at the pump, they are very bad because it sits and draws moister.
I never added the rubbing alcohal content to the diese, but i may have to take your advice on it, help keep the wick little cleaner, and might not burn down as fast neither. The alcohal does take the oil out of the DIESEL FUEL so it might help keep the wick kleaner.
i burned about 50 gallons of diesel already. and it does not stink at all. Little smell went putting it out , but overall i am very happy. JUST NEVER BUY A STUPID KEROSENE HEATER WITH A FIBERGLASS WICK, the diesel will just clog it up. has to be 100% cotton wick, and every PERFECTION heater i know of has teh 100% cotton wick.

I just payed 40 for my can't wait to see it work black and purple.
Excited to clean mine up and restore it. I just got it today for $48 at an antique store, it’s the 130c looks to be very antique
Very nice! If you are looking for a wick the part number is AW-500
When you get it restored up post a video of it, or a video of restoration.. they are getting hard to find...
You can use lamp oil, you would use with a lantern. It's much cleaner and smells almost like nothing.
Burning diesel in them smells a hell of alot better than that stinky kerosene. You have to add diesel fuel additive to it (that keeps trucks from gelling in the winter)
yes the perfection heaters are supposed to have the wicks all the way raised
Dang boy! Did you not see the "Wizard of Oz"? Oil that can! It is rusty! Maintenance is the key to a long life!
Have you ever thought of putting ethanol in the wick to use as fuel. It may create a blue flame.
thundersnowstorm it would have a run away flame if alcohol is used. If there was a way to convert it some how it would be a cleaner burn, and probably longer burn time.

Modern heaters have a metal guard around them. If you have children or pets, your kerosene heater should have a metal guard around them.
Along with very few other heaters, the Perfection heaters are the only ones that can burn dyed fuel properly.
What do you mean dyed fuel.

I was surprised as to how much heat these put out.
they put out a bunch. they are nice when the power go's out
Great video man,... I love these heaters !
I have 2 models & did my own little video on them :)
I got them because the power always goes out in the winter time here where I live.

Those are awsome.
I just got mine two weeks ago got to put a wick in it can't wait, I live in a Victoria house and they cold.
8 years later, do you still use this heater
Yes I still do if the power goes out in the winter.. they are older than the hills and still work perfectly..
Are the perfection heaters supposed to be burnt with the wick raised at it's highest level?
es the perfection heaters has to have the wicks all the way raised
The wick assembly ensures that the wick cannot be raised too high. Just crank it until it stops, and it's at the correct height.
Nice heaters! Which one is the best in your opinion?
Any of these old perfection heaters are good. but the new/modern ones are better and more safe.

make sure your wicks are clean and trimmed good. and make sure wick is not set too high

Frank Reeder you're welcome. They also have fiber glass wicks. And you can dry burn them to clean them.
Are fiberglass wicks better then cotton? What about fiberglass/cotton wicks?
Doc savage yes because you can dry burn them to clean them
Oh man. I have that exact same model 730 but mines a rust bucket. Can they be restored and re painted?
