    Possibly the best ever video on YT, for us recreational golfers/higher HCer's! It can be so easy to misjudge the rough and the club/shot selection. Very good 👍

    I'm currently trying to break 100 for the first time. This is something that will make all the difference, I managed 5 pars last time out and went 37 over on the other 13 holes. Avoiding blow up holes of 4+ over is the biggest thing for me

    This is now safely stored in the back of my head. I tend to use my rescue a bit too much in the rough. Instead of going into damage control mode, stubbornness kicks in and I dig myself a deeper hole to get out of. Thanks for this card saving tip!

    One of the most sensible golf tip videos out there Matt and key to the sort of course management that lowers scores. One of my 4ball last week hit his drive into semi rough. He chose to take a fairway metal to it - big mistake! He went from semi rough to more semi rough, just 10yds away. And as his second shot had landed with a slightly better lie, he kept the fairway metal in his hand. He went into heavier rough and ‘dinged’ the hole.

  • @rossmills6888
    @rossmills6888 2 місяці тому

    Excellent video! I wish I had seen this before my last round. I wasted 3 shots on one hole trying to hit out of high rough with my 5-wood. After analyzing my game, I realized that I had added about 11 strokes to my score as the result of bad choices. If I had just selected the right club and prioritized getting out of trouble instead of continuing to go for the hole from a bad lie, I would have been far better off.

    Matt, I really LEARN from your simplified instruction, I will take this knowledge of hitting out of diffetent roughs. I saw the MISTAKES I've been making, chosing the WRONG CLUB, and refusing to take my MEDICINE, and get the ball SAFELY back into play, I take MESS, and make it a BIGGER MESS

    Scenarios 3 and 4 are just a pride thing with golfers a lot of time that I see. "I can get it out of there with my hybrid" . Leave your pride at home a realize you are going to save strokes by pulling a 7 iron or wedge.

      My gulf partner and I have adopted the phrase "you're not Tiger Woods" to remind us NOT to try to be super human and instead make the rational club selection. In his case it comes into play on a long dog leg lined by tees on the left. His long clubs have a severe slicing ball flight. If he over drives his preferred landing spot on his drive, I remind him his next club choice is a long iron, not his driver that will get eaten by those trees. If you are a bogey golfer such as us, these decisions can mean 3-4 stroke a side.

    Great video. If I may, another way of expressing the shot out of the long rough on a par 5, is to just try to hit the second shot to where you wanted your tee shot to be. If accomplished it actually makes you feel quite positive about only one shot dropped.

    Curious about your opinion on the difference between a "rescue" (hybrid) and the kind of wood which also has some relief.
    I play cobra fairway with the baffler rails, and to be honest, the 3w & 5w completely dominate a 21 degree hybrid.
    Agree it won't work in the heavy stuff, of course.
