    Mark, thank you for this. well done as always. But please be aware that on older machines one does not need to purchase the kit. but may need to purchase a pair of new slice bars that hold the side bars parallel and tight. On the original kits there is no way to attach the middle legs at the splice. If the used does have this special splice bar the whole job becomes much harder.

    Thank you so much for the shout out Mark. It is very much appreciated. I also appreciate what you do and provide for our CNC community. I'm thrilled to do my small part as well.

      Maybe I went a bit overboard in my enthusiasm, Keith, but man - this thing ROCKS!
      This is the One Guy in a Shop that made my dust shoe, y'all! GO GET YOU ONE!

    Roger that on the dust boot. One Guy in a Shop is an engineer. Best dust boot on the market. Unfortunately for me I have ATC on my machine and my spindle has an air line right at the bottom that interferes with the mounting of the boot....
    Definitely need to add some weight to the CNC to help reduce shake.

    Glue up a couple of slabs of 3/4” MDF to form a 1.5” board and bolt it to the frame, but on the underside. That will help stabilize the frame a lot. My machine uses smaller aluminum extrusion than yours and it’s rock solid.

    great video Mark. Keep up the good work. Im doing exactly the same by storing heavy tools on a shelf under mine as well.

    You were talking about moving your dust collector outside. I did that, now the problem I'm having is, when I'm cutting something on my CNC and I have my AC running or heater on, It also sucks that out of the shop too.

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 роки тому

      Yes, I'm still working on how I'm going to address that. I think what I will end up doing is running a filtered vent or two from the lean-to back into the shop. Of course that means I'll have to insulate the lean-to as well, but I had already planned on doing that to help reduce noise.

    Great stuff Mark. I would agree on the weight. Also making sure the feet are DEAD level is helpful as well (I suspect you've already done that.) I'm interested to see what you have in store for the vertical work holding.

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 роки тому

      Thanks Greg! I spent a couple of hours making sure the entire structure was dead level and both sides of the machine were coplanar before I even built the gantry. It's as flat as I'm ever going to get it in a shop with a wood framed floor on a gravel base. As a side note, slowing down the acceleration from 50 inches per second to 25 inches per second eliminated most of that shaking. I'm still dialing it in, though.

      @@MarkLindsayCNC Hi Mark. I've been using my 4896 Avic Cnc Pro since 2015 (Was CNC RouterParts at the time) and I run Nema 23's and frequently run it at 200 IPM and no problems at all. Unless you hit a part hard... it may skip a step but that is rare . I'm sure you will enjoy your new Avid CNC. keep up the good work.

    I have the same setup coming in about 4 weeks. I plan on getting that exact dust boot. Tell me about that vertical hose support that looks like it is about 10 inches above the dust boot. Did that come with the boot or was it a separate purchase? Loving this series!

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 роки тому

      The bracket was a separate purchase. I got it from BlueLine Wood Flags. I saw it in his LED lighting video (link to that video is in the description) and reached out to him. If you have a 3D printer, you can get the STL file from his website, free. Again, check the video I linked in the description.

    Question about your dust boot please. Do you still like it after using it for some time now? What are the pluses and minuses to this boot? Thank you.

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  Рік тому

      Yes, Jay, I still love it. The only criticism I have is a minor point that won't apply to most folks. When using my .5 inch diameter end mill, just enough of the bit still hangs below the brush that the dust collection on the very first cut isn't as good as it could be. Other than that, it's pretty much perfect. I still wouldn't trade it for any other dust shoe out there.

    Beyond getting weight down low, I imagine attaching the top will eliminate some of the twist and shaking as it will tie the entire machine together. A couple rounds of shaking like that will probably require a turn or two on the fasteners.

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I had anticipated the need to go around and systematically tighten fasteners after a couple of jobs. And once I get the top snugged down properly, it's bound to tighten up.

    08:50 Mark, did you restore the diagonal bracing that you removed earlier? I couldn't see it in the video from this point on but maybe I missed it. That might help with the shaking along with added mass below as you made mention you plan to do.

    • @MarkLindsayCNC

      There's no place to bolt those gussets after moving the front crossmember back. I'm still experimenting with a good vertical workholding setup for me. I'll talk about it during the Live Q&A.

    • @bobd.
      @bobd. 2 роки тому +1

      @@MarkLindsayCNC Unfortunately I missed the Live Q&A but could they be placed on top of the front lower cross member and run up to the leg? It looks like it's possible when I view the lower part of the table at 03:10

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 роки тому +1

      We talked about doign just that, Bob. I'm going to try it and see if it helps. I can tell you that slowing the acceleration down from 50 inches per second to 25 inches per second helped a ton. It really made a dramatic difference.

  • @MrCoffeypaul

    Might be an idea to do up a drawing of the table just for reference?

    maybe go over the frame again with a torque wrench as well as adding weight mark

      Kevin I built engines in my Dad’s shop as a kid. When I ordered my Avid I asked for torque specs. They did not have them and wondered why I would ask for them? 😲

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 роки тому +1

      I found general torque specs for the bolts online, but haven't had time to go around and torque them all yet.

    Mark I watched Dave Gaston’s video ua-cam.com/video/y7Fk1C8qlhg/v-deo.html before I received my Avid 4848 pro. Look at this video at about 3:00 in. Dave ran into the same problem. I brought this up to Avid at the time I ordered it. They sent me longer screws and I did not have to do what you did with the forstner bit. Apparently they have not changed this over site?

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 роки тому

      Thanks, David. I didn't get hold of Avid, but it looks like I need to. I already have longer screws on the way, so it won't help me, but it might help the next person.
