- If you’ve seen any of my previous videos with the DJI Osmo Action 3, you’ll know that I had the same issue a lot of people had with the focus. Well since receiving the second replacement unit, that’s no longer the case. Finally, the DJI Osmo Action 3 is the awesome camera we all knew it had the potential to be.
The manufacturing date of this current ‘fixed’ Action 3 is 11/22, my previous ones were 08/22.

Couple of things really jumped out at me from this video. As well as being really clear, straight in to the subject and constantly showing actual footage from the Camera all the way through, big thing? The "This is what camera this is being filmed on" subtitle! A LOT of the so called expert camera channels could learn a lot here. Thank you.

Good evening everybody; As I already commented on another Tamara’s video, I had the same problem as her with even more exchanges with DJI as I had to exchange it 3 times !! All first 3 cameras were from 08/22 or 09/22. I asked DJI to send me a newer camera as their summer production looked all bad; they agreed and received the 4th one from 11/22 (Like Tamara) and this one WORKS ; long process, but for the one of you who would like this camera instead of a GoPro, do not hesitate : 1/ you will probably receive now a new produced unit (but check…) 2/ test your image quality upon reception ( film a steady image in good light then zoom in in post production ( at least x2 but not something crazy !!) and you will immediately see if good or not (do not use Rocksteady for the test and put the camera on a steady platform) 3/ be sure that DJI Support will do their job and will change the unit in case of problem. DJI was surely bad in the initial production of OA3 and official communication about the problem, but their support department (for me it was European center in Netherland) was absolutely helpful and they did their best. (I’m not a DJI employee 😂)

I have a question. How can I find the production date of the Action 3? I want to buy one but need to be sure it's not a "faulty" one. Thanks for any info and help.
@@2limbo It seems it's not labeled in the camera info, but if you still have the box, it's clearly written close to the barcode, close to th serial number.

Dji action 3 has been such a gift to gopro, must have boosted their sales.
Yep I am about ready to go to go pro and be honest I do not like go pros at all. DJI though is really giving me no choice.

OBVIOUSLY NOT your fault. Just wanted to make you and followers aware. I received my first Action 3 earlier this week. I have today tested my SECOND Action 3. BOTH manufactured November 2022. BOTH have focusing issues. Build quality excellent, and so are menus and functions, as is the Mimo App. I love the fact that compression can be set to H264 as well as the default H265. I believe that everything about the Action 3 is better than the Hero 11 EXCEPT image quality when the Action 3 doesn't focus due to a hardware manufacturing issue. Great features, which beat the competition, on a camera which doesn't focus, means the Action 3 is useless. I am going to ask for a 3rd one. If that doesn't focus, I will be asking for a full refund. I have better things to do with my time than continually ask for useless cameras to be replaced with more useless cameras. Very best regards, and keep delivering the great vlogs!

Sounds like the action 3 is a great camera now that the updates have been released and for the same or similar price you get the action pack, which would be very useful for difficult situations. Action 3 is the bargain deal that I’m definitely looking at. Thanks for the video, I’ve learnt a bit more from it.

Ha! I didn’t do anything differently other than the mic being a bit closer to my mouth as I was holding the camera, so it sounds better when closer.

Im just so glad GoPro found a serious competition in DJI which is a very practical option for good quality at a lower cost.
Glad they got you straightened out. They are making me jump through hoops right now. I really want a good one but if DJI makes it to hard I will return it to amazon and get my money back. I really like everything about the camera except the short focus issue. I hope DJI make it right but if not I will move on that is for sure.
Also heads up to anyone buying from Amazon. They are listing this as a "new" version but still selling cameras from September 22. DJI just really needs to recall the original batch and send everyone that bought those a new camera.
This is definitely the new golden standard of what the Action 3 should and can look like! The image is gorgeous!!
It also made me rethink my take on my unit, which I considered "good enough". It looks that it can get much better than good enough. I think I should get a replacement now...

I know people with that date still had issues. From looking at your recent vlog in the snow, I would say yours isn’t in focus.

I currently have 2 GoPro Hero 4 and they've been nothing but trouble. So I waited each time GoPro came out with a new version. Yep same old stuff and yet people stayed loyal to them. After a long break in filming I decided to get back into it and was definitely looking for something different. I started with the DJI Pocket 2 and now looking at the Osmo 3 but was leery because of the lens problems. You've just convinced me that DJI stepped up and resolved the issue unlike GoPro with all their past problems. Thanks for the follow up video and an honest opinion. Cheers!

Hey Tamara absolutely love your videos!! Just warning people not to buy the DJI Osmo Action 3 unless manufactured after10/22. I had to send 2 Action 3 cameras back. The 1st one was manufactured 9/22 and the second camera was 10/22 (the 2nd camera was sent from DJI support). Your videos give me hope that eventually I will be able to get an Osmo Action 3 that actually doesn't have the mushy video issues!! Had Amazon refund my money after the second bad camera!! Have great day.

@@TamaraGabrielUK Side note are you still using the Z30? I purchased the Z30 and will be using it for my video Intro's for my fishing channel and will be using it for my new tennis UA-cam channel that going to start soon.
No I don’t have the Z 30, I had it on loan for several weeks so that I could try it out and see how it was. Really liked it though. If I was looking for a small APC-S camera that would be one of my top choices.
How does one find the manufacture date?

Enhanced image has some changes like the grass beside your hand. It is way clearer and the colors are more accurate
just bought my DJI OA3 adventure set (nov batch!). Thank you for your video comparison as i am still very new to the action camera world. definitely need alot of your test footage so that i can get the best outcome.
Excellent report and review - in which I have no actual interest because I'm sticking with the Action 2, but it's good to see such a quality upload for its own sake! Sadly, I suspect the Action 3 problems (not to mention the Action 2 overheating problems) may have delayed the release of the Pocket 3, which may well persuade me to put my hand in my... pocket. And of course they have probably also suffered delays due to the covid issues in China. Anyway I'm glad you are finally able to post a positive review!

Sadly, the image oversharpening is ruining this camera imo. I think it would be an excellent action cam if DJI added a sharpness setting, like we have on Gopro.
That would be useful. It's more noticeable in bright light.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Yes. It seems even more pronounced in HDR mode. Strange attitude from DJI, as it's a long time requested feature by a lot of customers for a lots of their products.

Thanks for chiming in. Was considering the DJI as a replacement for my GoPro 8. I always use the 8 in flat settings (everything) and process the pics in Shot cut The Dji is suddenly not so interersting anymore.
H11 is better for full control.
I know a lot of people have issues with GoPros with the crashing and overheating but I’ve not had the same bad experience, but that is just my experience. It’s a shame it’s been unreliable for a lot of people because the camera is great otherwise.

Hi Tamara 😃I can see a definite difference between the regular and the higher quality video settings on the Action 3. Look at the branches in the trees behind you. There is Noticeably more detail to my eye at the higher quality setting. looks like the higher detail setting ups the data encode rate of the video.
I thought there was a noticeable improvement too. I was looking at the detail of Tamara's hair ringlets as they fell down across her coat. Also in the building in the background.
Yep, more detail a bit over sharp, but I have noticed whilst filming more that it mainly does this shooting in the Normal colour profile, D-Cinelike doesn’t have quite the same amount of sharpening, which I prefer.
Excellent comparison. I choose A3, and hope the add a sharpening field.

I returned mine not because of image issue per se but because the audio control for external mic wasn't great. Well, DJI issued me a refund and the customer service I received was incredible. I mean it was absolutely the best. Wouldn't you know it, in the new firmware they have fixed the audio issue (gain control below zero) so in theory external mic will be usable in many situations. Guess I'll be buying another one in the Spring. Great video. Perhaps you can try out the audio with an external mic for us????

I've just re-ordered it. I preordered the Action 3 but returned it after a few days. Now that they have it sorted out I am going to give it another shot. I just like the UI and experience better with the Action 3 over the GP11. I have the GP 9, 10, and 11, but its just such a pain to use compared to the Action 3. Thanks for the update!

@@TamaraGabrielUK do you have the original box that yours came in? If so can you tell me what the build date is, it should say 2022/09 or 08, or 10 etc. I just got my new one in and it has a date of 2022/09. It appears to be sharp in bright conditions but less so in lower light, which would make sense. Does yours seem to be less sharp in lower lighting conditions?
I wrote it in the description, 11/22. It’s less sharp in low light, which is understandable but is still in focus.

The firmware update must have kicked off an avalanche of orders. My Monday order direct from DJI is still lost in transit somewhere.
Received the camera Monday. Had to return it because of focus issue - manufactured in September.

Nice one on the focus. The problem now is it needs sharpness settings. The newer firmware artificially over sharpens the image. This is seen most easily on the foliage/leaves at 0:58. I remember it being an issue on the Mavic Pro when I first got mine.
Yeah, let’s hope a sharpness setting is added in a future update 🤞🏾

One question....on DJI Action 3 you can connect a lavaliere with usbc or only DJI Mic? Have you tried?
You don't just have to use the DJI Mic, any USB-C mic should work fine

Too bad they rushed it. I returned mine and picked up the 11 when the out of focus issue was soon apparent. I probably won’t go back for this iteration. Good to hear it’s all sorted.

There's one thing about the GoPro 11 that you haven't mentioned which is important to me.
With the GoPro you can select the area for exposure, which in a scene with high dynamic range means you can select for highlights so they don't blow out.
As you have shown in the link, if you compare footage of the two cameras in a scene with high dynamic range , the GoPro shows details in the shadows whereas the AC3 doesn't.
The GoPro is a better camera , but whether it's worth the extra money , depends on what the user is going to use it for.
Better quality yes, but reliability ? They're notorious for overheating and freezing. I am currently looking to get a camera for all kinds of sports and while seeing go pro 11 superior quality, i have stumbled upon videos expressing flaws of them and now I am thinking about getting dji instead.
go pro is too unreliable. DJI is much better overall
Tamara, as a non-technical type I’d welcome your opinion on the following. I have a Pocket 2 and acquired the Action 3 about two months ago. Now and then I use both for still shots. The ones from the Pocket - from within about 2m - are crystal clear, but the Action’s photos (taken for comparison from the same spot) are out of focus. I have sent examples to DJI. The reply tells me that the camera is not faulty - it’s just that the Action 3 is for, well, action and not stills. It shouldn’t be compared to the Pocket 2. I don’t know what to make of this, but having seen your videos and read about focusing issues I find myself sceptical. Thanks for your helpful videos.
Hi 👋🏾 The quality of the Pocket 2 is better than the Action 3 so I wouldn’t use it as a benchmark for the A3. Have you tested the A3 video footage? If your footage looks like the footage in my previous A3 videos, then you have a focus issue. If it looks like the footage in this video then it’s fine.

I am thinking of buying the osmo action 3 for motorcycle riding videos. I have bought gopros in the past and they've always crashed or overheated and it's cheaper even with adventure combo

I think it's still risky to buy. There was no recall on the faulty units that I know of so it would be a gamble because you won't know if you get a revised camera or a faulty one still in circulation until you test it.
I would imagine if buying from DJI you would get one from the new batch, which shouldn’t have issues. But maybe I’m wrong.

Looks great on my phone, have to check on the tv thats where the dji usually falls behind for me. Hardest decision, I want the functionality of the dji but the picture of the gopro 11 js good

I’m no expert but I noticed the plus has a narrower field, probably a buffer for a more stable capture
