Reze leaves denji not because she doesn't feel the connection but because she does. She chooses to not pursue him to kill but rather just simply run away and while at the train station even decides to skip the train to go to denji so they could runaway together. And her line "I didn't go to school either" hits so much considering everything what she wanted to do with denji aka experience school showing how there was genuine sincerity in her actions even if she didnt and couldn't say it to denji directly.
Yeah it feels like the person who made the video didn’t quite get that part of Reze’s character. The humans and cats are combined into the threats posed by normal humans, devil hunters, and domestic and foreign organizations that control devils/fiends.
Yeah seemed more about the idea of saftey vs security and freedom vs confinement. Especially since you'd only know she was bad after the fact. It wouldnt be on the levels of whats in the basement AOT, more, naruto you sure look like that rock face man on those clifts.
Great video Mark, though I'm a bit sad you didn't talk about the fact that reze and denji both wanted to run away together, but were both too afraid at the most opportune moment only for that leading to the death of her, when she became ready. That's the real tragedy for me in this arc because if denji had said yes when she asked or she said yes at the beach what happened next would never have happened and both would maybe have lived a happy live content with peace instead of the best grub as denji put it.
I adore chainsaw man. In a non spoiler manor, Fujimoto has gone on record to describe Chainsaw Man as "A more wicked FLCL" and it SHOWS in the story. Also with the cat parallels: Cat got your tongue (with the kiss scene). Took me months to get that dark comedic gag in that series of a moment lol. I can't wait until you hit the later stuff Mark. It's gonna be SO GOOD!
The panelling of Reze from the moment you realize what her kiss to Denji was about to her devil reveal is genuinely horrifying. All show no tell and utterly terrifying. Next week's review is gonna be a total and complete mind 🤯
Something you should pay attention to is Fujimoto’s emphasis on food in Chainsaw Man. It becomes more apparent later down the line in the series, but he drops hints about its meaning since the beginning with Denji’s introduction
Fujimoto's ability to manipulate the reader into liking a character that is to be killed the next 2 chapter is as terrifying as Makima's manipulation that kills them.
Mark: "Makima is scary. I don't trust her one bit. She seems like she treats Denji like a dog." You have no idea. Just wait until you reach the final arc.
Honestly, Am I the only one who can remember seeing this part (and forward) of the manga animated even tho it hasn't been, like, things moving in certain panels I have only seen once and all just because the flow of the manga is so smooth you feel like things are actually moving, it's, just, awesome
Great to see more Chainsaw Man content from you, but I'm surprised you didn't go more into detail with some of the scenes from the Bomb Devil arc (more of Denji & Reze bonding and how Reze was planning on meeting him at the cafe) Other than those small things, good video! You're in for a wild ride for PAINsaw Man DX
The fact you keep using Drakengard music for Makima is so friggen brilliant it has me in stitches every time it pops up. I can't wait to see how you react to the last bit of this masterpiece
Katana Man clearly stated "the Gun Devil says it wants your heart," which clearly shows the Gun Devil's motivation for attacking Makima and her group is because Denji's heart, or rather, Pochita, is very important to the Gun Devil for some unknown reason. Eliminating Makima would clearly be the main priority considering she's plainly a powerful Devil Hunter that would get in the way of its mission.
@@viderevero1338 The Gun Devil played a role akin to Muzan in Demon Slayer, where he sent goons after the main character throughout the story. I believe that the Russian government was contracted with the Gun Devil to capture Denji's heart as well, because how the hell would the Russian Government know that Denji's heart was really so important? The Gun Devil seems to know Pochita's true nature, whatever it may be.
fujimoto is some of the best in leveraging the medium of manga in story telling. the part where aki fights with the curse devil, the finger is literally OUTSIDE THE PANELS. it is such a cool effect. besides his layouts, one of the best to understand what the medium can offer
Yeah im going to have to agrer with what many here are saying about your interpretation and handling of the Reze arc. I love your reviews and im impressed by how much you pick up, but with the Reze arc it felt as if you were missing on some pretty obvious cues and it deserves a more lenghty and indept look into. As this is a part of the story that focus on Denji forming a new relationship with someone outside of his normal circle, developing new feelings and considering even giving up on Makima, it felt as if your review rushed it to get to talk about Makima or other characters, even missing the fact Reze did form a connection with Denji as she was about to skip town deciding to go back to Denji as he said he would wait for her in the same shop, taking the same path she took before with a different feeling to it. Also the hints that there are more organizations outside of Japan using devils, fiends and hybrids with interest in the chainsaw devil heart, which makes the introduction of the next arc a much smoother one. I love the Yakuza arc, but the Reze one was a game changer, mainly for our MC, and i think it deserved more attention.
Man, I hope that the anime does this series justice. Chainsaw Man is/was easily one of my favorite manga when it was being serialized from week to week. It was a refreshing take on the shonen genre that broke almost all of the norms that usually come with it. I would never hesitate to recommend this series to anyone.
I love watching people theorize about this series. There's so much to analyze and so many breadcrumbs to the meaning of it all. But it doesn't fully come together till you've read the whole thing, and I love how you need every page of the story to get it.
The animation scenes with Reze are blowing my mind, because its exactly how you envision it when reading the manga the way it flows and chroegraphs each panel its just so *chefs kiss* a fucking work of art
I just saw an Ippo clip edited in there. The damage is done. Mark needs to review Ippo. Holy cow, does he ever need to review Ippo. It genuinely is sooo good.
Great Job, Mark! Something I think you might have missed, but when Makima corners Rize, Rize is actually on her way back to Denji. She changed her mind and chose to run away with him. They were about to escape and have a happy ending, and Makima crushed it.
In my opinion this is hands down the best paced manga, and as you mentioned that goes hand in hand with the paneling. I couldn’t even tell you how fast I read this story. As always great vid!
You are picking up on so many things that I never did when I was first reading the manga. Going back and following you through the manga, I see moments that foreshadow what happens towards the ending of part 1 of the manga. And it is little things that I never had picked up on that I go oh shit it was there this entire time kinda thing. Anyway, cool video, I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the next arc.
If he truly doesn’t read ahead before he makes his reviews, his plot analysis skills are just on another level. That Makima reveal got me when I first read it, and the fact he’s pretty much guessed it within 4 volumes is pretty incredible.
This review in particular is *_BOMB_* af Reze is too good at acting for Denji but actually loved him I feel her powers are awesome also a jackass nut kicking contest with Aki too good lmao
Bomb Girl Arc is one of my absolute favorite arcs in all of Chainsaw Man. It’s such a short/intimate and jam packed arc and it only explodes in tension and suspense with International Assassins right after
Mark, thanks for covering this. I watched halfway through this video yesterday, got a Shonen jump membership, read halfway through last night, and the rest of the way through this morning. This was fantastic and I’m glad I got into it. Thanks again!
These thumbnails your coming up with are insane, I love them so much. Loved seeing you review CM. its a classic, and the anime might just elevate it to another level if the animation is as good as the trailer leads us to believe
Mark you're amazing. I don't know how but everything you've said, including in the first episode, I've just connected the dots in the later volume of the manga. The "dog" part you said really stunned me.
With Makima, I was actually expecting her to have a Joker smile by the end, I was waiting for her common expression to change to something maniacal and haunting
I love the fact BFG division was used as background song because I saw a fan animation comp with it and shows how greatly the DOOM soundtrack, and metal in general is an obviously fitting genre for Chainsaw Man and only makes me hope more that the anime’s soundtrack has a lot of metal in it
Great job on the video, loved the analytical approach to this one. On a side note, I don't think you should wrap up the rest of the story next week. I think there's enough content there for two videos; especially since there will be certain events we'll want to hear a detailed reaction to those events as well as an analysis of them. Regardless, of what you guys choose to do, I can't wait for next week's video.
I remember when the Reze chapters were first airing, everyone was theorizing that she was a trap (a dude), because she was too suspiciously perfect. But then when the big reveal happened, everyone collectively went "Ohhhhh... so she's that kind of trap"
Nah no one should read bleach , only to have 100 or so amazing chapters which become 40o something awful chapters . Don't waste anyone's time by asking them to read bleach
@@kovidarora3479 thanks for your opinion, but i disagree. Imo bleach has intresting story and is worth reading. Tbh its my favorite from big 3. Totally different aproach than naruto or one piece. I'm really hoping he covers Bleach next. I mean, the anime is returning this year, so Mark would be foolish to not capitalize on the resurgence of hype for the franchise.

I can’t find the video again but I remember seeing a video that tied the Aesop’s Fable theme to each character, like how Himeno was a country mouse trying to convince Aki, a city mouse, to join her. Was really good.
I just want to chime in to say that I liked chainsaw man a lot, and I really appreciate this series of video analyses. You have a very good attention to detail, you clear put a lot of thought in your analyses and have a lot of experience with other manga. I especially like how you don't only talk about the story and characters, but also point at the composition, the art style, the choices and visual and narrative techniques used by fujimoto. You earned yourself a new follower :)
The way Mark covers the characters and the themes of the story at large makes me want him to cover Record of Ragnarok. It's such a good manga that deserves more recognition.
Graduated yesterday! This week’s set of releases has been a interesting and seeing a new webisode review from you about chainsaw man is another cherry on top!
I love your reviews so much! mainly because the last one I watched was your berserk review, you started making them right after I finished reading berserk myself, which was awesome since I got to see someone else opinion right after I made my own. and now I shit you not, I just finished chainsaw man maybe a week ago, and here you are again. the timing is brilliant. And to anyone even slightly interested in chainsaw man, read it. its badass, I know the anime is right around the corner. but let me tell ya I am just as excited for the anime even though I just finished the manga. its too good.
"because denji i too never went to school" had me crying i really liked reze and was so mad when makima killer her. SHE CAME BACK FOR DENJI TO RUNAWAY .
i think my favorite metaphor used in chainsaw man is the door and pochita telling him that no matter what, to never open the door. the first time we see it is ch 38, right after denji and aki kicked the dude's balls. it was out of nowhere and jarring. it was horrifying and chilling, which made it so cool to see. and the fact that we keep coming back to this, god it's so well used and designed.
You’re first video had me so curious about this series I read it for myself and fell in love! Ended up binge reading all of it in a day and man was it a ride!
The Shinkansen was bound for Yamagata. Yamagata is a countryside in Japan. Earlier, Reze said she liked rural mice, but she thought of Denji and decided to spend her time with Denji instead of getting on the train. However, Makima arrived there.
I have to say that my favorite aspect of Tatsuki Fujimoto as a manga creator is his infectious love of cinema. There are so many homages to famous classics including No Country for Old Men in the rain strangle scene and the Raid 2 being an inspiration in a later fight with the the lesbian chad. Hell, the fun energy of Sharknado was an inspiration for that fight with Reze and it was awesome. That just brings a smile to my face knowing that one of my favorite manga creators is a gigantic film buff.
As someone who read Chainsaw Man within like a week and found it to be like a 7/10, your videos always seem to make me appreciate things about a story that I never saw first time through. A reread has me appreciating the story a lot more now but I still have a few minor issues.

@Anime School Shooter huh
uhhh im pretty sure it was confirmed that they were going to do the whole manga in this one season but i could be wrong
@@mk9beatz not confirmed but it could be
Something you should pay attention to is Fujimoto’s emphasis on food in Chainsaw Man. It becomes more apparent later down the line in the series, but he drops hints about its meaning since the beginning with Denji’s introduction
I'm glad Mark is picking up so many important details about Chainsaw Man.
Too bad he's lost so many about Reze though.
@@MaxIronsThird Hopefully once he finishes he’ll get a better appreciation of the Reze arc.
@@xxspike156xx Probably won't be the case, he's more interested in trying to do predictions.
Fujimoto's ability to manipulate the reader into liking a character that is to be killed the next 2 chapter is as terrifying as Makima's manipulation that kills them.
Reze is alive
Fujimoto is a monster. Made a genre defining manga. Then two critically acclaimed one shots, and were still getting chainsaw man part 2
Mark: "Makima is scary. I don't trust her one bit. She seems like she treats Denji like a dog."
You have no idea. Just wait until you reach the final arc.
Let me guess (no spoilerino please) her real name is Amber Heard
At least he got his reward in the end
@@almac5446 also a nice birthday present
@@whirlwind872 well two actually one of them hits like a fucking truck
Yo chill.
Honestly, Am I the only one who can remember seeing this part (and forward) of the manga animated even tho it hasn't been, like, things moving in certain panels I have only seen once and all just because the flow of the manga is so smooth you feel like things are actually moving, it's, just, awesome
Great to see more Chainsaw Man content from you, but I'm surprised you didn't go more into detail with some of the scenes from the Bomb Devil arc (more of Denji & Reze bonding and how Reze was planning on meeting him at the cafe)
Other than those small things, good video!
You're in for a wild ride for PAINsaw Man DX
It got lost on him i think.
The fact you keep using Drakengard music for Makima is so friggen brilliant it has me in stitches every time it pops up. I can't wait to see how you react to the last bit of this masterpiece
The most fitting dark fantasy music for Makima
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed it
Katana Man clearly stated "the Gun Devil says it wants your heart," which clearly shows the Gun Devil's motivation for attacking Makima and her group is because Denji's heart, or rather, Pochita, is very important to the Gun Devil for some unknown reason. Eliminating Makima would clearly be the main priority considering she's plainly a powerful Devil Hunter that would get in the way of its mission.
The manga was so fast paced I never even picked up on that. So the Gun Devil was actually an active force in the story before the end.
I’ll never forget seeing Reze speaking in Russian, kissing Denji then revealing her true colors after cutting him up
fujimoto is some of the best in leveraging the medium of manga in story telling. the part where aki fights with the curse devil, the finger is literally OUTSIDE THE PANELS. it is such a cool effect. besides his layouts, one of the best to understand what the medium can offer
Boy doesn't Makima seem to always be in control of whatever situation she finds herself in. She has such a commanding presence too.
Lol I see that you did hear
Reze was the first time I actually felt like sad reading the story. She's a great character and I'd love to see more of her (though its unlikely)
I liked it when it was coming out, now is kind of weird.
Definitely think the layout of this manga is one of the smoothest. It's almost deliberately made for tablet or smartphone
The animation scenes with Reze are blowing my mind, because its exactly how you envision it when reading the manga the way it flows and chroegraphs each panel its just so *chefs kiss* a fucking work of art
They aren’t even officially animated yet but every fan animation I’ve seen are just soooooooo good
I really want to see a video on fujimoto's fire punch from totally not mark because his reactions are gonna make me chuckle
That would be a wild ride
I don’t know man. I can see that story ruining his view on Fujimoto.
@@viderevero1338 bruh
@@viderevero1338 if it happens it happens which is kind of a low probability anyway since mark isn't really unknown with reading dark stories
Reze's death before she could see Denji again is very sad
She alive
@Anime School Shooter you have 332 comments on this channel, now that's sad.
@@abura2980 wait, how did you count?
"I never went to school either" absolutely floored me as a line fujimoto is incredible
I love that the merch has an original and unique design and not just your name or logo character/mascot splashed on! It looks great!
I just saw an Ippo clip edited in there. The damage is done. Mark needs to review Ippo.
Holy cow, does he ever need to review Ippo. It genuinely is sooo good.
It's crazy that the part 1 video got 190K without any anime, the manga has already gathered such a huge fan base
Great Job, Mark! Something I think you might have missed, but when Makima corners Rize, Rize is actually on her way back to Denji. She changed her mind and chose to run away with him. They were about to escape and have a happy ending, and Makima crushed it.
"How the hell did this make it into Shounen Jump??"
My guy you have not even seen the half of it
In my opinion this is hands down the best paced manga, and as you mentioned that goes hand in hand with the paneling. I couldn’t even tell you how fast I read this story. As always great vid!
Bomb girl arc is fantastic. One of my all time favorites
Excellent video, I just wish there was more time spent with Rezes arc, there's so much more in there
You are picking up on so many things that I never did when I was first reading the manga. Going back and following you through the manga, I see moments that foreshadow what happens towards the ending of part 1 of the manga. And it is little things that I never had picked up on that I go oh shit it was there this entire time kinda thing. Anyway, cool video, I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the next arc.
for real like mark has already picked up that makima isnt human when I couldnt predict that until the big reveal in the fight with the gun devil
@@e.t.1947 it's obvious, the only people with weird eyes are all Devils.
If he truly doesn’t read ahead before he makes his reviews, his plot analysis skills are just on another level. That Makima reveal got me when I first read it, and the fact he’s pretty much guessed it within 4 volumes is pretty incredible.
THE DOOM ETERNAL GLORY KILL SOUND EFFECT WHEN KATANA MAN DIED WAS SO FUCKING AMAZING!
19:40
perfect music choice!
This review in particular is *_BOMB_* af Reze is too good at acting for Denji but actually loved him I feel her powers are awesome also a jackass nut kicking contest with Aki too good lmao
I see what you did the there
Bomb Girl Arc is one of my absolute favorite arcs in all of Chainsaw Man.
A+ background music and editing this time around!!! Really enjoyed the review!
Yeah, best experience was reading CSM week to week.
Weekly bleach request comment.
I wish i had the analytical skills of mark to appreciate manga as im going along with it like this. This is so spot on
Nah no one should read bleach , only to have 100 or so amazing chapters which become 40o something awful chapters . Don't waste anyone's time by asking them to read bleach
@@kovidarora3479 thanks for your opinion, but i disagree. Imo bleach has intresting story and is worth reading. Tbh its my favorite from big 3.
Totally different aproach than naruto or one piece. Also if it wouldn't be good it would be axed at some point. Yet here we are waiting for last arc anime and potentially possible new hell arc.
I'm really hoping he covers Bleach next. I mean, the anime is returning this year, so Mark would be foolish to not capitalize on the resurgence of hype for the franchise.
@@kovidarora3479 Actually you can tell when someone didn't read Bleach when they say the Soul Society arc ended around 100 when it was actually closer to 200...oh and btw the Arrancar and Tybw arcs have way higher moments but keep living in delusion
I can’t find the video again but I remember seeing a video that tied the Aesop’s Fable theme to each character, like how Himeno was a country mouse trying to convince Aki, a city mouse, to join her. Was really good.
Mark dropping videos on weekends is chefs kiss
Mark you are simply not ready for the next part, it might be peak fiction
I always read Reze's name as Raze, like "to destroy"
It's a nod to Rize from Tokyo Ghoul.
God i cant wait for the next episode. This is legit the best csm analysis content on youtube.
Totally not Mark is totally not ready for the next 3 arcs 😂
He can't predict where it will go next
He wasn't even able to understand the arc that he just read, Bomb Devil arc.
YAY! the best part of my week is here, thank you
I just want to chime in to say that I liked chainsaw man a lot, and I really appreciate this series of video analyses.
It's great to watch you review my favorite Manga!
I love chain saw man. Such a amazing ride. Cant wait for the downward spiral in your mental health in the coming arcs
You do such a great job explaining why Makima is such a terrifying (and great) character. I cant wait to see the video of next week.
“Maxima doesn’t have humanity’s best interest at heart.”
Oh honey, you got a big storm comin’
I’ve sighed so many times during this video lmao… ohhhh mark. You’re in for a ride
Love the review, the editing, and the use of BFG Division. I'm excited for the coming reviews
The way Mark covers the characters and the themes of the story at large makes me want him to cover Record of Ragnarok. It's such a good manga that deserves more recognition.

This week’s set of releases has been a interesting and seeing a new webisode review from you about chainsaw man is another cherry on top!
After watching your first video I started reading it for the third time and I’m love it as if it was the first time. Thanks man.
16:45 I never noticed how close to the sofa meme that panel was until right now.
And to anyone even slightly interested in chainsaw man, read it. its badass, I know the anime is right around the corner. but let me tell ya I am just as excited for the anime even though I just finished the manga. its too good.
now that i think about it, most people watching this have read it already, but if for whatever reason you havent, go do it.
"because denji i too never went to school" had me crying i really liked reze and was so mad when makima killer her. SHE CAME BACK FOR DENJI TO RUNAWAY .
Can’t wait for make to re pick this up again because he is in for a treat
i think my favorite metaphor used in chainsaw man is the door and pochita telling him that no matter what, to never open the door. the first time we see it is ch 38, right after denji and aki kicked the dude's balls. it was out of nowhere and jarring. it was horrifying and chilling, which made it so cool to see. and the fact that we keep coming back to this, god it's so well used and designed.
You’re first video had me so curious about this series I read it for myself and fell in love! Ended up binge reading all of it in a day and man was it a ride!
Bro the animation is incredible! Great work mark and team m!
Sneaky little peak of "that" panel at 6:47 I caught right there😏
The Shinkansen was bound for Yamagata. Yamagata is a countryside in Japan. Earlier, Reze said she liked rural mice, but she thought of Denji and decided to spend her time with Denji instead of getting on the train. However, Makima arrived there.
Drakengard OST playing during Makima's segments.
Perfect. XD
For a second I thought you meant "Reading Chainsaw man part 2 for the first time". Got my heart rate up for no reason😮
Out of all the Devil, Future Devil is the trolliest and chillest ones, THE FUTURE RULES
As someone who read Chainsaw Man within like a week and found it to be like a 7/10, your videos always seem to make me appreciate things about a story that I never saw first time through. A reread has me appreciating the story a lot more now but I still have a few minor issues.
Obviously you'll have a few issues, it's not a perfect story but story one of the greatest
Another great video but imo the Reze Bomb Girl Arc kinda falls short even though it's among the best arcs of CSM and has so much impact imo.
6:46 what is that imagine you are trying to hide from me?
also about the explicity thing. don't forget, this is the same magazine that ran to love ru and is currently running ayakashi triangle. they've always been pretty spicy and didn't hold back much. Japan just has other views on these kind of things I guess.
This is a great way to start my morning
Another awesome analysis, can't wait for the final one. The end of Rezes arc was sad af.
This man understanding of storytelling is like advanced observation haki, he is picking up so many things one only would after a second or third read. But even then he is not prepared for the last portion, we may get a hour long review next time.
