Loving this! Just wanted to point out that the GO XLR has some very powerful pre-amps and a cloud lifter isn't necessary, but, of course, personal preference comes first when setting up a device like the GOXLR.
Hey thank you so much for taking the time to clarify this! I really appreciate it. Love your products so much! If paying rent wasn’t a thing I’d have all of them 😂❤️
TC Helicon already clarified this but, to further expound on it--The GoXLR already has the pre-amps necessary to power the Shure SM7B without needing additional gain. I've currently got my gain on my GoXLR set to +50db of gain and it's giving me absolutely crystal-clear sound quality. You do not need a Cloudlifter unless you plan on moving the mic further away, which the Shure SM7B is not designed to be used for.
I know this is very old but, I try to use my Shure Sm7b but I dont believe the audio is loud enough, even with higher gain in recordings the levels seem almost the same so what did u do to get it clear and louder?
ATTENTION: For those with the cloudlifter and goXLR, If your audio is coming through like a damn robot whenever the cloudlifter is plugged in, what fixed it for me was moving the cloudlifter closer to the GOXLR and changing out the cable to a shorter one. Weird fix but it worked

This could be because your xlr cable is touching a power source. Sometimes that happens to me if my cable connects with one of the power cables. If not that maybe try changing out the xlr cable itself. After that only two things left the goxlr and the mic. :)
Have you tested the SM-7B directly into the GoXlr (No Cloud Lifter)? Go XLR claims it can fully power the SM-7B. I would love to have a comparison of your exact setup with and w/o the cloud lifter. I’m scared to drop this much bread just to purchase a cloud lifter later on.

will the go xlr mini run just as good ?? right im going through the problem of alot of noise floor ( running shure sm7b with cloud lifter and focusrite solo interface ) even with the cloud lifter the noise the wont go way so i think its my noisy interface.
Goxlr mini is very similar on the preamp side just no motorized faders, effects, sampler and maybe a couple other things not pertaining to mic quality. Couple questions what cloud lift do you have? How are you running the mic with the cloud lift as a dynamic or as a condenser?
Loaded Wombat have not purchased xlr mini yet, but planning on doing so soon. just wanted to know if i should go for Go XLR or Mini but seems like mini matches my budget. also only using for music use but will stream soon so it will work for that as well. i have CL1 cloud lifter. as for the dynamic or condenser i have no idea how to change those settings?
Haven't really changed that side of things from when I got the mic originally. Just haven't really thought about it honestly. Im gonna have to play with it tonight and see if i like any different settings :)

Thanks for the polite comment! Definitely a preference thing. Personally think running a CL or Inline Preamp sounds noticeably better. During the whole quarantine situation it’s been difficult to get! Hold tight it should be coming back in stock soon. Another one you could check out tok is the rhode caster but I like goxlr best for streaming.
1) make sure headphones are plugged in correctly (sounds crazy but for real). 2) check settings and see if there is some kind of pan. 3) try default settings on goxlr if that’s what you have.
OMFG dude! FFS SE DM1 is not cloudlifter, and it is not called like that, it´s just a plug in mic preamp, cloudlifter is a name of product. And I think that with GOXLR you don´t need another preamp, it has Midas preamps. And lastly, everybody is using the DM1 or couldlifter connecting directly to the microphone itself, not into cable that goes to the mic.
Nice buddy.. But you may want to look into the Rode Caster Pro-it’s much easier to setup and professional and user-friendly... I have the Shure sm7b with cloudlifter and the Warm Audio wa87 it is a dream all together..
Hey thanks for watching! The rode caster is definitely a great product as well! Was a little too big for a streaming set up for me, but definitely would not complain if I had that instead. Sounds like a great set up by the way!
Your video has quite some production value - nicely done! However, I’d like to give a few pointers to correct misinformation, that happened to sneak its way into it. Inline Preamplifiers do not change the sound - well... not much anyways. Sometimes they tend to ever-so-slightly color the sound, but the difference is not worth the money, as you can to the very same thing in post processing. And actually, that’s how it is supposed to be. Inline preamps aren’t supposed to make a big difference, ideally, you want an inline preamp to make no difference at all to the sound, because the only use they are built for is giving you additional gain at a very low self-noise level. This additional gain enables you to lower the gain on your audio interface or mixer, which otherwise might end up with an audible amount of noise in the recording, which on a lower gain setting would not be there. If the sound was getting better with an audio interface at a really low gain and an inline preamp to cover up for it, the cost of an inline preamp would be so high, that - depending on the cost of the audio interface you are currently using - getting a new audio interface with a known low self-noise instead could end up being the better investment. Preamps on older audio interfaces or mixers tend to develop a much higher self-noise on a gain setting higher than 60-70%. However, if you get a new model with decent preamplifiers built into it, the self-noise will most likely never even hit -90 dB, often enough hover at about roughly -100dB on 100% gain. But even -90 dB of self-noise is WAY LOWER than the noise inherit in the room, where you put your microphone, as hardly anyone will ever make recordings in a sound booth. So there is no point really in getting an inline preamplifier for an audio interface with low noise preamplifiers, and the TC-Helicon GOXLR certainly has good preamplifiers. Now for the names you gave devices. The Inline preamp you were using here, is the sE Electronics “DM-1”, nicknamed “Dynamite”. Please stop calling inline preamplifiers “Cloudlifters”. Because “Cloudlifter” is a series of inline preamplifiers released by the company “Cloud Microphones”. If “the Cloudlifter” is mentioned, people are most likely talking about the Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1, but there are multiple variants of that thing, like the CL-2 for example, which is basically two CL-1 in a single casing. Now about what you said about the Compressor. The Compressor does not amplify low volume parts of the microphone signal. It does only attenuate the loudest parts, to make the volume even. After that, it adds makeup gain (effectively software gain) to raise the now compressed signal to an intended level. Why does this make a difference? Because of the way software gain affects the signal. It has a direct influence on the perceived volume of certain parts of the frequency response. Dominant parts of the frequency response appear even stronger and in extreme cases can overpower weaker parts of the sound. There is an effect called the Maximizer, which basically does the opposite of a compressor. A Maximizer raises weaker parts of the sound to match the loudest parts of the sound more. Other than a software compressors makeup gain, a software maximizer usually tries to keep the perceived volume leveled, so nothing in the frequency response becomes overpowered. However, as a software Maximizer needs to work with a certain look ahead, that comes at the cost of a buffer, which slightly raises the latency. (Or in lame mans terms: The sound of the microphone becomes slightly delayed)
I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out with this! Definitely always trying to make my language better and always keep learning. Thank you!
Do not put it on condenser setting when you using a dynamic mic, choosing the condenser setting will turn on phantom power. some dynamic mics can stop working if you enable phantom power.
Pro Tip: DO NOT buy gear because everyone has it. Never ever. Especially if you'll feel it in your wallet. If the SM7b is a big investment for you, don't buy it, it's not worth it. Here's why: The SM7b is a good DYNAMIC mic, but it still is just a dynamic mic. What I mean by that is, that it will simply lack the open clarity that a good condenser will give you, simply because the membrane needs much more energy to move as it's heavier. Both impulse and frequency response just aren't as great as a result, which means that small details aren't picked up as much. Because the membrane is heavier and needs more energy to move, it produces less electrical output in return, effectively lowering the mics sensitivity. Which helps, if you are struggling with keyboard/background noise overlapping, but if you handle it right, you will be able to mitigate that problem in condenser microphones aswell. With its pricing, the Sm7b is just stuck in a little unfortunate position. If you have your room acoustics under control, and no external noise like ac, you can get a mic that will have far more clarity/detail & smoothness at almost half the price (Aston Origin for instance at 220, Lewitt LCT 240 at 150, the 440 at 270), you can spend a 100 less for pretty amazing 300 buck mics like the Warm Audio Wa47jr, or Aston Spirit, or you throw another 100 on top of that 400 and get a way different level of microphone, with mics like the Shure KSM32, Warm Audio WA-14 or even the sE T2. If you are struggling with background noise, get a shure SM48 for 50 or a sm57/58 for 100, learn a little bit of equing (it's a good skill to have anyways as soon as you work with audio, even with good mics. Here's a great video on SM57 vs SM7b @, and you saved 300-350 while having an insignificant difference in sound. Alternatively, you can also get the Rode PodMic for around 120, there is a difference, but as I find neither the SM7b or the Rode extremely outstanding sounding, I feel like you might aswell save 300 bucks if you want that certain sound anyways (or the off axis noise rejection). The PodMic also looks good (I personally prefer its looks over the SM7b) plus it doesn't need any extra preamp. If you want to up your quality over that, go for a beyerdynamic M201TG, this thing sounds better resoluted than a SM7b, at half the price, and it's easily in the league of a RE20 or a MD441.

Great video very helpful!
Where do you plug in headphones with 1/4 in cable?
Thank you for watching! There is not a 1/4 plug in for the go xlr but you could get an adapter 1/4 to 1/8 inch :)
@@LoadedWombatTutorials thanks dude keep up the good work!
sasuke671 thank you so much for your time and encouragement ❤️
Great info man! I’m actually a podcaster and looking for something to record the audio from the go XLR and video from a camera source at the same time. What would you recommend?
Hey there David! Thank you so much for watching. What I use for this is OBS or Streamlabs OBS. Im not sure if there is something better for the specific podcasting genre, but those two options would definitely work :)
Your video was very helpful! Thank you! Your keyboard caught my eye. What is it?
Hello there! Thank you so much for watching. The keyboard I have was actually a friend of mines. He was in the overwatch league and its all custom setup to what he would have wanted then. It is a Leopold though :) Im very lucky to have it!
What happens if you run it as dynamic with cloudlifter
It won’t work, no audio will come through cause you need phantom power from the condenser setting to power the cloud lifter, but if you don’t use it you use the dynamic setting
Dude I don’t know how much money I owe you.... but bro. I destroy my cable solution looking for the flaw of my cables and cloudlifter. I was like why is my microphone not working I know this is dynamic mic. If not condenser. You explained it in seconds. You saved me hours of troubleshooting 😂
I had it in dynamic the whole time lol
hey there! kinda a weird thing for sure! Im super stoked the vid could help you out!
Will this work for xbox and playstation?
There might be a way to rig it up, but id say no. Prob best to get a good headset for xbox and playstation honestly.
FOr some reason mymic doesn't work
which mic boom arm is that?
Question.. I have a weird... whistle sound on my mic, any idea why? :/
Totally makes sense! Definitely a preference thing the goxlr can run without the cloudlift for sure. It comes down to the sound that fits for you. I personally like the sound of the cloud lift (or inline preamp) more than without. On my Instagram I did a simple comparison it’s highlighted on my page. I have been telling people who ask just to try it without and see if you can get the sound you want then if not go the CL route. :) hope this helps!

will the go xlr mini run just as good ?? right im going through the problem of alot of noise floor ( running shure sm7b with cloud lifter and focusrite solo interface ) even with the cloud lifter the noise the wont go way so i think its my noisy interface.
Goxlr mini is very similar on the preamp side just no motorized faders, effects, sampler and maybe a couple other things not pertaining to mic quality. Couple questions what cloud lift do you have? How are you running the mic with the cloud lift as a dynamic or as a condenser?
Loaded Wombat have not purchased xlr mini yet, but planning on doing so soon. just wanted to know if i should go for Go XLR or Mini but seems like mini matches my budget. also only using for music use but will stream soon so it will work for that as well. i have CL1 cloud lifter. as for the dynamic or condenser i have no idea how to change those settings?
what do you have the frequency response set to on the back of the mic?
Haven't really changed that side of things from when I got the mic originally. Just haven't really thought about it honestly. Im gonna have to play with it tonight and see if i like any different settings :)
This video is great
That was fast and to the point brotha
I hope that’s a good thing 😬 Thanks for watching !
I hope that’s a good thing 😬 Thanks for watching !
No hate this is just a friendly comment
But the goxlr one of the fictions is it has a built in cloudlifter and it doesn’t need one so if your thinking about buying this setup plz do not waste $150 on a cloudlifter that will do nothing but if you want I am not stopping you lol
Once again no hate I’m not trying to call him out or call him stupid or anything 😀
Thanks for the polite comment! Definitely a preference thing. Personally think running a CL or Inline Preamp sounds noticeably better. Also have had multiple people compare their setups with and without and they like being able to run the gain at a lower level onboard the goxlr. but again all preference :)
@@LoadedWombatTutorials idk how that political and I’m just trying to tell people looking to buy the product it is not a need product but it can be cancels out
@@LoadedWombatTutorials yeah after much testing we found the same benefit as you adding the CL. Jacking gain in dynamic mode just introduced to much noise.
i cant seem to find the go xlr anywhere besides ebay GG
During the whole quarantine situation it’s been difficult to get! Hold tight it should be coming back in stock soon. Another one you could check out tok is the rhode caster but I like goxlr best for streaming.
im having a problem the sound is only going into one ear what do i do
1) make sure headphones are plugged in correctly (sounds crazy but for real). 2) check settings and see if there is some kind of pan. 3) try default settings on goxlr if that’s what you have.
This will be helpful because I was thinking of starting a podcast. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful. What gear are you thinking about running?
@@LoadedWombatTutorials not sure yet. I am still looking into different equipment and checking what is out there.
Duuuude this looks great!
im bigger than u
Thanks for watching! I hope this helps out! Don't forget to check out the budget set up in the description :)
MahaVakyas the mic doesn’t technically that’s just what you run it as with the cloudlift :)
So underrated
Yo this is fire
Nice buddy..
But you may want to look into the
Rode Caster Pro-it’s much easier to setup and professional and user-friendly...

Thank you friend.
Love your channel:)
Thank you!

Good video, butttt ayoooooo clean that mic 😅🤣
So umm I can explain. I uhh ummm. I was gonna.....

Also youll get more noise in your audio if you place the Dynamite directly into the GO XLR! Youd want to have it on the Mic end

Fuurk.. $1000 for the GoXLR. I was like this might be at the same price of my shure sm7b. NOPE.. lol
Hey there! Goxlr is definitely not normally $1000 might be because of COVID? Mine was in the 400s I think

Yo since when is Post Malone is helping u this vid
I have the cloudlifter cl1 go xlr and sm7b and the cloudlifter won't work
give it a slap on the ass
Do not put it on condenser setting when you using a dynamic mic, choosing the condenser setting will turn on phantom power. some dynamic mics can stop working if you enable phantom power.
The shure sm7b does not have this problem, but there are definitely mics that do. Thank you for the reminder!
Pro Tip: DO NOT buy gear because everyone has it. Never ever. Especially if you'll feel it in your wallet.
If the SM7b is a big investment for you, don't buy it, it's not worth it. Here's why:
The SM7b is a good DYNAMIC mic, but it still is just a dynamic mic.
Thank you so much for the tips! I can tell you spent some time with this response and it’s greatly appreciated!
