@@Fixthisbuildthat you may not see this but, you should really install a “jackshaft garage door opener”. It frees up so much overhead space, it’s easy to install, and it makes the garage look so much better without having the opener hanging over your head. I converted to a high lift door and jackshaft opener and the difference is amazing. Check em out!!!!

Awesome update and great to hear you talk through the progression! My KTT is maybe a 4/10, but it’s growing as my daughter gets older. My biggest issue now is my wife’s gardening items taking over parts of the shop - garden wagons can be great, but not when its maliciously stored in the garage shop!

  • @OtterBeSwimming

KTT is zero - retired, kids moved on and grandkids keep things at parents house. Great video tour, nice and clean. Also great reminder on safety glasses (safety is so very important). Surprised you spent to little time on the huge vacuum system you have, maybe there is a video on that I need to find. Great channel keep up the good work.

I have been doing the same with my home shop. I have built all new storage benches, chop saw station, knew 4' x 8' torsion box catch/fabrication table & woodworking bench. But I still have two refrig /freezers. & My own bike hanging up in the rafters.

One of the best shop tours I have watched. You are also not the only one that vacuums to much, once I get done on the table saw, miter saw I grab the shop vac and start vacuuming.

I always learn something new when I have the chance to watch the content you put out. Might I offer a suggestion though... looks like you have about 3 or so ladders. If you turn them 90° then they shouldn't stick out much more than they do now and you can easily grab the one you need and slide it out without having to move all of them to get to the one in when needed. Just a thought. Hope its useful. Thanks again for all the great content. You are truly an inspiration!

I think the first video of yours I found was the shelving. You didn't appear to have much for infrastructure at that point so you were cutting everything on sawhorses or on the floor.. lol. By the time I needed the shelving I had a mitre station and a multi-purpose pullout table for my table saw so that project was pretty easy. REALLY easy to adjust them if I need to raise one shelf up or down, the way I screwed them in.
I do have a similar setup to your DustStopper. I clamp all my most-used clamps around the frame for easy access.
Lastly, my 6'x3' multi-purpose pullout table (as mentioned) is pretty great. I think you'll find that to be a massively rewarding build. Mine is 1/2" plywood with 3/4" MDF on top of it, finished with satin polyurethane. I went with poplar banding around the edges and a 45 degree chamfer to the poplar edges. Instead of expensive T-track, I routed out slots (two slots lengthwise, three slots crisscrossing them widthwise) and used parallel 1" flatbar (1/8") flush mounted with the surface of the table (with enough gap between them for a carriage bolt to slide in), in lieu of T-Track. It cost me probably as much for ALL that steel for that track system (252" of track length in total) as it would have cost me for ONE section of 48" T-track, and I painted them matte black with automotive primer (so far the paint is holding up well). Looks fantastic and I've done SO much with that table already.. Made my own hold down clamps for the tracks using some of the left over 1" steel, carriage bolts and my own knobs. Even built a modular router sled where the rails bolt onto the track. I'm loving this whole shop experience so far.
Your videos definitely inspire me to keep going.

Awesome Tour Brad!! I’m new to Woodworking and I just bought a New Age 8 piece Garage Storage System. But I would love a miter saw station like yours on the other side of the garage. But I’m torn between making carts for my table saw and a Outfeed/Assembly Table to slide in underneath the miter station or build lower cabinets like yours and just leave a big 4x8 in the middle of the shop. But all that has been put on hold with these lumber prices. I’m hoping they go down by the Summer

I've used Teflon tape for years to help with cabinet screws. Adjustable hinges on my lazy susan corner cabinet drove me crazy before I used the tape.
As for the PTT issue, I'm very lucky. All the toys are restricted to the house or two stall attached garage. We have a 30'x50' spray foamed metal building with my toy car, yard equipment and a contained (walled off) 20'x30' room for the woodshop. The building also has a 10' x10' room my wife uses for her pottery wheel...and I sneak in there for some extra storage sometimes. Please keep that on the down low.

If you want to get more wall space, store your ladders on the ceiling. A u shape bracket to slide the top of the ladder, then another for the feet of the ladder. Slide it into the first, then slide it back to the second. Or you can make a hook for the top, and a rope to pull the bottom of the
LAdder tight to the ceiling, and tie off the rope with a cleat.

    • @Fixthisbuildthat
      @Fixthisbuildthat  3 роки тому

I have a MTT ratio. Man toy ratio in my garage. Getting a storage building for the mower and lawn stuff. The dirt bikes and motorcycles take up room as does the wood working. The area where the lawn stuff is stored is going to be a dedicated miter station and and scrape storage, though I may build a your mobile storage rack. Some updates to my work bench to improve things and some storage stuff I think it going to help out.

Just a thought for your assembly table. Under the actual top why not use a sheet of plywood angled towards the side you stand on most. Put a 2-3 inch lip on it and anything that falls through just slides down the plywood toward you. Keep it angled at arms length or close and it’s in reach. A great thought would be to build a frame and then put some 1/4 inch glossy birch paneling (Home Depot sells it and it’s slippery enough that you wouldn’t need to angle it much. Stuff would fall through hole, and slide right down and stop up against the 2-3 inch lip. Anyway just sharing what I’d do.

Sitting here watching a fellow maker guy show me his shop, and up pops an ad for some kind of "hoo-hoo" deodorant. Man, UA-cam needs to work on its algorithms better. Maybe it's cause you kept mentioning "toys" in your video...
    ... but I digress.
That's an awesome shop. I'm working in a small 13'x17' one car garage. It's tight! However, I'm musing about a stationary miter saw station. I think the important thing small shops need to employ is multiple use spaces. So, if a miter saw station is fixed, it needs to do double or triple duty and it looks like you have got that nailed. 👍👍👍

My KTT level is at 0. you need to get rid of your garage door opener and get a Jack shaft opener. It will free up your ceiling for storage space. That is what I did and now all the kids stuff and bikes are up on the ceiling. Still easy to get down when we need to. but lets be honest, its in the garage for a reason. it doesnt get used very often. Except maybe the bikes.

Your shop looks alot bigger than mine while it's roughly the same size. Mine is 5x8m in size (16.4 feet by 26.2 feet). Your ceiling is alot higher than mine though. It has a gable roof and within that space, I store all my wooden boards and such. But I have a huge workbench (1.2 x 3m) in the middle of the workshop so I have alot of space to work on and still get around it to reach every other part of my shop. On one side I have a big storage rack, it's almost the entire length of my longest wall (about 6m of it), 60cm deep and 2m high (Europeans use the metric system). But I'm gonna get rid of it and build myself a similar workbench for the miter saw as yours. Looks alot more handy than storing it loose in my storage rack and take it out every time I need to cut a board. And I definately need alot of drawers because right now, everything it laying around on that same rack, open and exposed and covered in dust since I don't have dust collection yet. Your workshop has given me so many ideas to organise my own shop. I'm still in the very beginning of woodworking and currently, I can't do a single thing in my shop because of a big renovation project in the house. Even my huge workbench is fully covered with packages that contain our new furniture for the living room which I cannot construct and place yet because we still need to lay tiles on the floor. But your miter saw workbench and the moveable wood storage rack is something I need to have. Keep up your good work.

Brad your shop is amazing. The level of OCD is mindblowing. I wish I was as dedicated to organizing as you are. My workstation looks like a "mess bomb" hit it lol. The only thing organized on it is my lathe tools are on a wall holder. Whenever the cost of plywood goes down I'll add some cabinets on the wall. I totally get the KTT factor. I'm also in a 2 car shop and suffer from irreversible WCT "wife car takeover). What planner is that? 15" sounds mouthwateringly sweet.

Yes sir I liked your video alot. Was waiting to know where you got your CNC router and what size is it and how much are they ? I'm building my shop now and would love one but know nothing about them. But I know that I can do so much more with it. But on a budget to. So info would be appreciated thank you

You use a certain kind of 3/4” plywood quite a bit in a lot of your shop projects, what kind of plywood is it? It looks like birch plywood but I can never find birch plywood that is that good of quality...

Really nice layout!!! What lumber racks are you using high up on the wall? They look like metal.
