Amazing job of this man and all the people on the show. I never played the game but the story it's truly stunning! The cinematography is great, as Eben tells, very real, but beautiful at the same time.
Fantastic insight and very inspiring to see someone be so honest. Thanks for this Aputure! I also love how he never mentioned an Aputure fixture or tried to sell my anything as well.
And what about Ksenia Sereda? All concept and way of shooting was her work! She made first episodes and you didn’t ever mention her like the series was exclusively his work.
Apologies for the culture gap (I'm Canadian), but what's with the BSC thing? Is it common for people in the UK to append whatever degree they have to their names like it's an OBE? On a resume or an office sign, I would get it, but isn't it a bit weird to say it out loud when introducing yourself, especially when said degree is not really relevant to what you're being interviewed for?
Great question! BSC stands for British Society of Cinematographers. We ask the cinematographers we work with to state their professional organizations following their name to show their credibility in the professional film industry. It's a testament to their expertise and dedication to the craft of cinematography. There's multiple professional organizations depending on the region. For example: "ASC" which stands for "American Society of Cinematographers." Hope this helped! :)
@@aputurelighting Ah, Google told me it meant Bachelor of Science in Commerce, hence my confusion. British Society of Cinematographers makes much more sense. Thank you for the answer!
Some ppl have said the shakiness of camera bothered them, especially in the scene where joel, tess, and ellie are walking on the freeway overpass. I didnt really notice it until it was pointed out but I do wonder if they could have kept it steadier, without feeling totally unnatural.
I love Aputure, but i found this movie very boring. forced myself for 4 parts and couldn't watch more, weak plot, ugly actors, boring "action" sh*ty color grading. And when i think that's my favorite genre... just compare image of this interview with the movie you are much better than the movie
Eben Bolter helped create one of the best episodes of television I've ever witnessed
Period!
Aaaah I'm melting as a huge TLOU and Aputure fan!
We love TLOU!!
Same
Loved the cinematography! So much so, I even made my own short film inspired by the style created in this series!! Hopefully Eben sees it one day!!
Post it here and show us!
Would love to see it
Another 5d Mark II disciple!! Hoorah!!
The OG Canon crew is alive and well!
This was perfect-I was just thinking the other day about doing research on the cinematography of The Last of Us! Great timing!!
We read your mind 😉
@@aputurelighting you sure did!

Massive fan of The Last of Us (game and show) and it's great to see this insight from Eben. Seems like a good guy.
We love the game and the show! It was great to learn that Eben was a fellow TLOU fan too 🤩
Cinematography played a huuuge role in this show. Made it so realistic and immersive even with the added environment vfx. Loved the show so much.
I wish i could see a bad cinematography version of this show, bc i cant tell why its ‘good’.
Just phenomenal work. World class stuff Eben!! Great video Apeture
Wow! Thank you aperture for doing this kind of interviews ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!

This was awesome!!!!!
Wow, amazing! Thank you guys 🎥💡
So cool, that this is out on Aputure's channel and this is not 'just' a commercial for one of the Aputure lights. Really nice insights, thanks a lot!
thanks for sharing😍
AKK! Aaaaand he worked on Avenue 5?! Heroic. What a blessed career path
Right???
Very Nice!
So were those aputure lights rigged up for moonlight??
loved watching this

Love the last of us. What a dream to hear the cinematography speaking about it
We really love Eben's approach!
Really valuable insights here. He seems like a really humble dude. Great content Aputure, keep it up!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed.
One thing I’ve learned from Eben and Roger Deakins - you become a cinematographer when you have a cool hat or haircut!
