I've been studying for about 2 months online now, and one thing I'm stuck on is how to pronounce the "gy" sound, especially like in "hogy vagy" any tips on that?

That's easy. According to the International Phonetic Alphabet, a phonetic notation for the Hungarian letter ''Gy'' is the phoneme /ɟ/.
This phoneme /ɟ/ (Voiced palatal stop), represents a different sound, and should not to be mixed up with the phoneme [dʒ], which represents the English letters "J", and sometimes "G".
The Hungarian "Gy" sound which is represented by the phoneme /ɟ/, can be found in Slavic languages as well.
For example in Macedonian language it is the letter "Ѓ", in Serbian language the letter "ђ", in Russian - the letter Г when palatalized (when precedes a Soft vowel) and so on...
I`m a Slavic speaking guy, and in Hungarian language I found little confusing the pronunciation of the vowels, especially the vowels E and É ...
