Great video!! It’s all very well-researched, and as someone who took a break from FOB for a few years and recently got back into them, it’s been really fun to visit memory lane. Great video from a felllow FOB supporter. Side opinion: "Folie a Deux" was an excellent project, I'll never understand why people hated it so much, to me, it seemed like a fully evolved version of what they worked on up to that point. I like "Save Rock n Roll" too, but after that, they seemed to tone down a bit, I still really like their music though. I truly appreciate the whole DecayDance era, it was a great time to be a teen. "Take Over, The Breaks Over," is one of my favorite FOB songs too. Also, I've had the demo of "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" since 2009.
I've wanted to get more into FOB for a long time, but was kinda intimidated by their history and discography. This was such a great introduction to the lore behind the band!
This was a real gem! I love the band and the boys, and it just fills me with pride that a fandom this dedicated exists. Your love and respect for them shines. Thank you for this amazing video, and keep going!
I’m a new fan so this is actually a really good way for me to know more about the band cause all the knowledge I have right now is their albums, which btw I love every single one of them already so thank you for this iceberg!
it’s been like a year since this was posted - but thank you so much for compiling all of this & sharing ! provided so much cool insight :) also what a catch gets me every time, it’s probably one of my favorite songs ever simply because of how beautiful it is lyrically (& its tie to headfirst slide)
I've only watched 1 or 2 iceberg videos on UA-cam because they are long and sometimes not worth the squeeze, but you did a fantastic job. Keep up the great work.
As someone who is getting back into FOB after years of not listening to them I am so happy that there is an iceberg related to this band that I haven’t listened to in years
Love the video sm, It’s really well made and in-depth! I just wanted to mention on the topic of the first lost entry: Andy was in an interview shortly after the nft fiasco and expressed that no band member was involved in any collaboration or supported nfts, and that the image was reposted believing it was fanart, if I recall correctly. Also fellowship of the nerd sounds a lot like Parker Lewis can’t lose, off of Evening out with your girlfriend
something kinda funny that happened yesterday, spotify played bang the doldrums IMMEDIATELY followed by fourth of july about 5 minutes after meeting pete and it really caught me off guard
As a new FOB fan, this video was really interesting for me! Your MCR iceberg video was the video that made me obsessed with the band, and seeing this video is probably the start of my FOB obsession, so thanks for making it! I really enjoyed it and I'm sure everyone else did too
Fall Out Boy is a really special band to me, one that I’ve been following for twenty years now, and their music has gotten me through some heavy stuff- often times too heavy to leave room for keeping up with the little details like this that I absolutely adore about this band (and it’s fans). Just… thank you so much for putting this all together, for those of us that couldn’t always keep up; so we don’t feel left behind. ❤
I remember my older brother and sister playing Fall Out Boy all the time when I was a kid which made me a fan! Just saw them last night at WWWYF and had an absolute blast :)
I consider myself a huge fan of FOB, and I thought that you've made just an excellent video! also, Ive been a part of the tumblr fandom for nearly a decade and my god, the tumblr stories are A LOT to take in and the cringe is real lol.
I've been a fan since the day Sugar came out as a single, I'm 27 now and they've been a big part of my life. As a long time fan, you did pretty good! I have some extra notes because I'm a nerd and autistic lmao. I'm listening on 2x speed while I'm at work so I'm sorry in advance if I misunderstood something! -Hemingway is no longer with us, unfortunately. He would be a veeeeeeeeeeery old dog if he was haha! -The other thing about Donnie is that it was also Pete writing to Patrick, so it once again hits hard with the emotional aspect of either being the friend of someone who has struggled, or being someone who has struggled but got through it with the help of one dedicated friend. -On Jeanae, a lot of the "facts" about that relationship came from a weird livejournal roleplay account, but others are saying that its "been confirmed" it was her account. Jeanae has done interviews where she states she was 17 and she doesn't really want to talk much about it and I respect that of her, so we may not know any true details of the relationship. I'm not dismissing any controversy, because Pete could still be guilty of the things that were said, but we do not have the definitive facts. -I don't have any hard sources to give but it's pretty well known that Pete is the reason that Panic has a music career at all lol. I can't say or remember if it was because of Ryan or Brendan or what exactly the lore is with that but I'm sorry I can't send any real sources rn!! I'm sure you knew that tho lol I just found it interesting no sources could be found! All in all, I love your love for FOB. As a long time fan, it's really cool to see someone younger than me having the same passion and love for them despite discovering them later in their career! Don't let any long time fan put you down or make you feel less-than for not having loving them since you were, idk, a baby lol. I love that a bunch of other veterans helped you out with this project! I hope you are enjoying Stardust
It was because of Ryan! From what I remember (again, no sources lol) he sent a demo of a song from AFYSCO to Pete that was basically just like “lol my bands better than yours” It caught Pete’s attention and caused him to sign them There’s a screenshot somewhere of Pete messaging Ryan about music stuff and Ryan being like “sure but I have English school work to finish first” lol
Thank you for deep diving into this!! I’ve been a fob fan for a long time but there’s some things I didn’t know/ never looked into. I just wanted to expand on a few things: - A big reason why what a catch donnie hits hard is because Pete wrote it for Patrick as a promise to never try to commit s*icide again it’s also the last mv they recorded before their hiatus - Tara Strong had previously worked with fob as she’s the one that voiced the monologue in Miss Missing You - I remember hearing about the p!atd record deal from an interview with Pete where he said something along the lines of ‘he (Ryan) said his band was better than mine so I was like oh yea? I’ll see about that and then I listened to his stuff and thought wait these guys are actually good’
i'm treating this video as a challenge to see how much i really know about FOB and im honestly doing better than i thought i would. great vid. vices is my favorite patd album too
As an elder FOB fan, I choked when you said “Take This To Your Grave Doesn’t Seem like much” 😭 Very interesting to see the perspective of younger fans / who FOB is to them having been introduced to the music well in to the band’s public persona evolution timeline. Super well done video, thanks for sharing!!
Just a few days ago I thought that someone needs to do a FOB iceberg video after seeing your video of the iceberg of MCR. Thank you so much for the video!
Thank you so much for this journey into Fall Out Boy! I love how many interesting and weird stories there are and there were lots of things I hadn't heard of before.
this video was very well put together !! c: i learned a decent amount of things i didn't know about one of my favorite bands and the band that inspires me the most . although one thing that wasn't mentioned that i've noticed for a long time (and was even acknowledged by one of them) is that rob mcelhenny , who plays mac on always sunny in philadelphia and pete wentz look and sound exactly the same . always sunny is my favorite show ever and it's something i've noticed since i started watching , rob mcelhenny even acknowledged it on twitter .
Hey, thanks for suggesting me to watch this over on Reddit! Wow, this clearly took a lot of effort! Thanks for putting it together, it was really informative (and, as a relatively new [but totally hardcore] fan, I certainly learned a lot of things that I would not have been able to learn otherwise due to obscurity!)
just found this video, seriously, thank you SO MUCH!!!!!! ive been a fan since like 5th grade, seen them live 4 times, and sobbed when they played GINASFS live for the first time in a while lol. i know their background, but videos like these make me feel just so much more connected to my favorite band. thanks for your hard work dude!!!! much love ❤
as a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE fall out boy fan with a massive special interest in them thank you so much. this helped me so much getting into them and i rewatch this basically weekly at this point just because i adore this video and their history i love this video sm thank you
amazing video, there's so much I didn't know or didn't know the full story of. this was a great breakdown on all the major parts of FOB. now i'm waiting for a new video about the tracklist that was revealed today ;)
This is a really good really well thought out video!! I learned so much new stuff. I have a weird hyperfixation on these guys so this was so much fun to watch
Fantastic ice berg! I consider myself a big fall out boy fan but wow I learned so much more about them! Thanks for all your hard work compiling this info!
also for the side project part joe also had one called with knives 👍 idk if it could go w that part or the singing part because he did lead vocals for that project :-) they only released one ep in 2012 though
the mid 2000s were such a great time for message boards and while i was most active on good charlotte boards (from where we got to witness all of the fob/panic!/mcr/the used shipping and conspiracies as well), i definitely remember falloutboyrock lmao. i wish all of these places hadn't died bc i'm sure it'd be hilarious to read some of this old stuff now that i'm not ~15yo and my grasp of the english language has much improved.
Thank you bc i have been forcefully shoved into the fallout boy pit and left here to scavenge for scraps until i figure out what the hell is going on with them. This is incredibly helpful. I am 19 years too late.
Pretty good video! But I was surprised there was no mention of the original fall out boy members like how Andy wasn’t the original drummer and wasn’t even on EOWYGF. Also thanks for including the video I uploaded of their split ep in the description haha, another piece of info on that is the drummer of the metalcore band “7 angels 7 plagues” did the drumming on the 3 songs for that EP
Awesome video and great, thorough research!! I've been a FOB fan for 10 years now and thought that I knew everything there was to know, but I learned a handful of new tidbits from this video :)
What a catch just makes me think of all the hope that Pete probably gained because of making that song as a promise to not take his life or try anymore. I’m glad he is better now and doing well
Watching this a few weeks after the summer Cincinnati show. Your lost entry “the band has almost killed each other” made me laugh the most just cause… I mean Pete and Patrick had flamethrowers on their instruments😂
Amazing video! Honorable mentions (in my opinion) Tour pranks, Friends or Enemies video era, maybe Patrick’s tumblr posts during the hiatus (the “we liked you better fat” letter of his ) for example and others from that era
I joined the overcast kids pretty late in the game unfortunately and was faced with a lot of gatekeeping. I would start a topic and get attacked for trying to rehash something that was already discussed too many times. I would comment on a thread with a topic that was interesting to me and get attacked for "necroposting". All in all, I was just pushed out by being treated like crap. I wish I knew what it was like to be in the "in crowd" in the club.
I'm in NZ, the Hella Mega Tour was completely cancelled. :( Sad, cos also MCR concert was pushed out and I couldn't go to the rescheduled dates either cos of Covid so I missed both!
Wow I had no idea Joe could sing like that. I wonder if he’s ever recorded backing vocals on any tracks? His voice is actually very complementary to Patrick’s!!
iirc he has backing/additional vocal credits on a few of the albums but i am not sure about any songs in particular where he’s actually audible 😭 aside from maybe the beginning of thriller where the band is speaking in the background under jay z
not actually FOB but he did do an EP with his band "with knives". not sure if they're still together but he was the lead singer for that EP - he talked about it in his memoir. :)
I think the only nugget I can add to this is that a photo of the van crash from the GTA shoot is on the Limited Tour Edition of FUTCT, and the photo of the doberman playing with bubbles on the cover of SMFS is and actual painting that Pete has in his house. I don't know if you'll make a video on your feelings about the new album, but I personally love it, and it's my favorite thing they've put out since Folie. Thank you for the insane amount of effort put into this video!
I went to the Honda civic tour and my mom drives one. We got free parking. We were told the first 100 Honda civics to park at the stadium got in free. Always thought that was a neat little thing to do.
Amazing job putting this vid together! FOB is my favorite band of all time and I knew a good chunk of this but WOW did I still not know a lot! 😂 Anyways, thanks so much for putting this together. Us FOB fans, we’ve got the best band in the world. We are overcast kids, car crash hearts, and youngbloods. And above all, we…. are Stardust. Fall Out Boy FOREVER!!!!

I’m a new fan so this is actually a really good way for me to know more about the band cause all the knowledge I have right now is their albums, which btw I love every single one of them already so thank you for this iceberg!
there really is something to love about everything they’ve put out, i’m so glad you’re getting into them and that you’re enjoying the video! 🤘
it’s been like a year since this was posted - but thank you so much for compiling all of this & sharing ! provided so much cool insight :)
also what a catch gets me every time, it’s probably one of my favorite songs ever simply because of how beautiful it is lyrically (& its tie to headfirst slide)
That "fellowship of the nerds" song you played is actually just "The worlds not waiting" of their unofficial record...
I think the "Joe Trohman is lame" is only in the Rock Band version of Dance, Dance and not actually in the actual single or album version
I can't believe how many times Brendon Urie has been mentioned in this video
I hope you are enjoying Stardust
jeanae did a interview saying that she was 17??? please send me some link or source because i need more info on it
before hand, thank you
It was because of Ryan! From what I remember (again, no sources lol) he sent a demo of a song from AFYSCO to Pete that was basically just like “lol my bands better than yours”
It caught Pete’s attention and caused him to sign them
There’s a screenshot somewhere of Pete messaging Ryan about music stuff and Ryan being like “sure but I have English school work to finish first” lol
Thank you for deep diving into this!! I’ve been a fob fan for a long time but there’s some things I didn’t know/ never looked into. I just wanted to expand on a few things:
- A big reason why what a catch donnie hits hard is because Pete wrote it for Patrick as a promise to never try to commit s*icide again it’s also the last mv they recorded before their hiatus
- Tara Strong had previously worked with fob as she’s the one that voiced the monologue in Miss Missing You
- I remember hearing about the p!atd record deal from an interview with Pete where he said something along the lines of ‘he (Ryan) said his band was better than mine so I was like oh yea? I’ll see about that and then I listened to his stuff and thought wait these guys are actually good’
i'm treating this video as a challenge to see how much i really know about FOB and im honestly doing better than i thought i would.
great vid. vices is my favorite patd album too
As an elder FOB fan, I choked when you said “Take This To Your Grave Doesn’t Seem like much” 😭 Very interesting to see the perspective of younger fans / who FOB is to them having been introduced to the music well in to the band’s public persona evolution timeline.
Super well done video, thanks for sharing!!
Oh dang I also saw the Hella Mega Tour. Lots of fun! :D
Great video!
1:07:49 the hooker blood is in reference to the original sham wow guy getting arrested for beating a hooker
just found this video, seriously, thank you SO MUCH!!!!!! ive been a fan since like 5th grade, seen them live 4 times, and sobbed when they played GINASFS live for the first time in a while lol. i know their background, but videos like these make me feel just so much more connected to my favorite band. thanks for your hard work dude!!!! much love ❤
I loved this video! Did you know Pete played himself as a reoccurring character on One Tree Hill and fob performed twice in the show
as a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE fall out boy fan with a massive special interest in them thank you so much. this helped me so much getting into them and i rewatch this basically weekly at this point just because i adore this video and their history i love this video sm thank you
amazing video, there's so much I didn't know or didn't know the full story of. this was a great breakdown on all the major parts of FOB. now i'm waiting for a new video about the tracklist that was revealed today ;)
I also would love to see an iceberg video on Twenty One Pilots, or Paramore (if you're a fan)
@@feelingdandie thanks so much! i hope to do a video on both at some point down the pipeline so be on the lookout!
This is a really good really well thought out video!! I learned so much new stuff. I have a weird hyperfixation on these guys so this was so much fun to watch
Thank you for video/iceberg! BTW, love your sonic plushes in the back!
Fantastic ice berg! I consider myself a big fall out boy fan but wow I learned so much more about them! Thanks for all your hard work compiling this info!
thank u so much for this omfg ive been wondering when someone would make a fob iceberg vid 😭😭 love this
also for the side project part joe also had one called with knives 👍 idk if it could go w that part or the singing part because he did lead vocals for that project :-) they only released one ep in 2012 though
the mid 2000s were such a great time for message boards and while i was most active on good charlotte boards (from where we got to witness all of the fob/panic!/mcr/the used shipping and conspiracies as well), i definitely remember falloutboyrock lmao. i wish all of these places hadn't died bc i'm sure it'd be hilarious to read some of this old stuff now that i'm not ~15yo and my grasp of the english language has much improved.
It's been a long time but I did some research and it's true that Ryan Ross (
It's been a long time since I looked into it but I do remember seeing screenshots of Ryan's Live Journal
22:10 Never realized how happy hearing “Fall Out Boy” and “Evanescence” in the same sentence would make me. Great video!
What a catch just makes me think of all the hope that Pete probably gained because of making that song as a promise to not take his life or try anymore. I’m glad he is better now and doing well
Watching this a few weeks after the summer Cincinnati show.
Your lost entry “the band has almost killed each other” made me laugh the most just cause…
I mean Pete and Patrick had flamethrowers on their instruments😂
Another hiatus side project I know of is With Knives - a band that actually has Joe on vocals!
And that's why LiveJournal was always superior.
My visceral reaction at you repeatedly mispronouncing LiveJournal betrays my age 😅😅 Great video!!
There’s a definitely a video in the works 😏 Thanks so much for watching! :)
38:35 this is so reminiscent of their earlier and less pop-produced sounding songs i'm obsessed
I was Patrick for halloween one year. Also I FORGOT ABOUT BLUE RABBITS OMFG
I went to the Honda civic tour and my mom drives one. We got free parking. We were told the first 100 Honda civics to park at the stadium got in free. Always thought that was a neat little thing to do.
with fall out boy as my special interest i greatly appreciate this video lol great job with making this
been listening to them since i was 8, saw them live for the first time, and met them, yesterday. it’s been a longgg time
the pinkish / dont try vinyl on the wall ohhhhh im so jealous of u, leave ur windows open tonight
I really appreciate not only the work you did for this, but how thoughtful you are in trigger warnings and ensuring we know you don't agree with Kanye. FoB is my favorite band and this has been a fun deep dive. Hope they come to the PNW sometime!
This is the best video ever made! This fandom is so amazing
Really needed this today, thank you my friend! 🤘♥️
okay so, i saw FOB live in November and Joe was back on stage with the crew! in case anyone was wondering :)
What?! Folie A Deux is my favorite album and I must have listened to it over 200 times.... How did I not know about this hidden track until today?!
THIS ROCKS
my friend, YOU rock 🤘♥️
Wowowow julian
icons supporting icons
i'm here a year later and no but seriously imagine it is an actual possibility now
I used to run a Phan account so the surprise appearance of them in this video got me 😂 I think I remember reading that post though hahaha
