      Hiii! Researching camping vehicles, I have been thinking of possibly living in a car / van for a year during college, not really sure if that's the best idea but definitely interesting experience. I so far have enjoyed watching your videos and hope to see more content!

      Hey thanks for coming along! Don't know if you've watched our previous video with the van tour of Tristen's E350 van. He's been living in it for college and it worked out pretty well for him.

      Also, the page I linked below is from a marine company that has many retail stores on the West Coast in many states too. So, it will be easy to find a local store on the west coast. Or you can order online. Be aware that some of the sealants are NOT recommended for use with plastics (like used in windows).

    I absolutely love your channel! I feel like you two show what van life is actually like through all it’s up and downs instead of showing a polished-up, romanticized version. Plus, you two seem like lovely people. Can’t wait for more videos!:)

    Yes, in the US you can disperse camp on any federal land ( Bureau of Land Management ..BLM ) for up to 14 days at any given time and when your 14 days are up all you need to do is to drive at least 25 miles to another spot

    • @RoadtoPitches

    Aw MAN that crossing to Port Angeles brought back some memories! Biked Victoria to San Francisco with my best friend like ten years ago, same route. That bridge into Astoria was fucking terrifying!
    Glad to see you're still kickin it, and appreciate you sharing all the challenges of a box conversion.

      Haha, that bridge was sketchy in the box truck, too. It was so windy and very limited view with rain. Can't imagine how bad that's on a bike!

    Hey guys.... l know you have been having tons of issues. Try and stay positive. It can't go on forever right. As for being it the USA its a good thing. They sell rustolium seal all by the gallon cheap. It would seal your roof cheaply and its usually good for 5 to 10 yrs on a vehicle. Longer on stationary buildings. Rolls on like a thick paint. I would tape off the top sides and paint a inch or two over. One thick coat should solve the issue for good.
    Autumn!

      @RoadtoPitches  2 роки тому

      Hey thanks for the tip. I just read on the rustoleum seal. This stuff sounds like it could fix the leaks on the corners of our box.
      The roof itself seems fine, but the plastic caps in front have a slow leak. That rubber stuff should be able to seal that up.

      @@RoadtoPitches l have seen it used in so many applications including a small aluminum boat with holes already in it. The trick from what l see is a good coating. I can't remember the exact number but one gallon can should do 50 or 75 square feet. It's a lot cheaper in the states at any building store like Home Depot. I think??? 37 dollars??? I could be off. Gallons l believe is not available in Canada and litres are expensive... surprise. It's been a few months since l looked at it. But seriously l would cover the entire roof including the end caps. Use good tape and maybe even a over spray paper. Once on there its hard to get off. Comes in black grey silver and white l believe. I think it cures pretty quickly and hot temps wont bother it. Think down to -40°C too. It will stretch and move with the vehicle somewhat. Requires a full 24 hours for the smell to completely go away. Maybe best to do down south of you if your going that far.

      @@RoadtoPitches You should be able to find Flex Seal (brand) in pint or quart cans at a DIY store like Home Depot or Lowes. They may also have similar products from other brands. Be aware that once applied to a surface, it may make it difficult for other paints/finishes/sealants to work with it (or adhere to the surfaces where it has been used). This means around the skylight, cables, etc.

I will try to post a link here, but UA-cam doesn't like links posted in comments. simply search UA-cam for "Project Farm" channel, then search his channel (using the search field works if you enter "best waterproof..." and it will show you his test video which compares products you can easily find. As long as the alternator is charging, and not excessively hot around the bearing I'd not replace it yet. The idlers usually make a screech or whine when they go bad. Removing the belt and turning and shaking the pulleys is the best diagnosis. Home depot has rolls of 6" wide self adhesive window flashing, roll that over the edge of the skylight and you'll have a very long lasting seal.

    • @RoadtoPitches
      @RoadtoPitches  2 роки тому +1

      It might just be the brushes of the alternator. The voltage was a but low these past weeks. Didn't go over 13.8 V. I gave the alternator a few smacks, now it goes up to 14.4 V again. Don't know if that really indicates bad brushes. We're probably just gonna change it cause they are not super expensive and a relative easy fix.

      @@RoadtoPitches Might have allowed the brushes to fit tighter to the slip rings, or improved a loose connection . Definitely diagnosed your issue though.

    I think if the world ended these would be the first people to go. The poor people can't even still on box truck up. They sell tape that's made for that reason climb up the ladder clean the top of the truck off dry the top of the truck off the tape on all the cracks and around the Skylight so it doesn't leak changing the inside panel does not stop the top from leaking. When was when was the last time you clean your solar panels

    You shouldn’t use pressure treat wood indoors because of the chemical’s!

    • @RoadtoPitches
      @RoadtoPitches  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah we didn't end up with that, but instead just used PVC trim (you should be able to see the white slats under the bed slats). Those are resistant to moisture and won't fume out any chemicals ... well beyond what PVC normally releases....

    Also do you not know what a RV car wash is. When your roof is leaking you go to a car wash that takes RVs you wait until there's no line and then you go underneath the awning truck gas station . And you use a towel or a propane blowtorch to heat the area up . Not nuclear rocket scientist

    • @RoadtoPitches
      @RoadtoPitches  2 роки тому

      You're throwing a lot of assumptions out here. But we'll definitely not use a blow torch next to a gas station that sounds like an awfully bad idea. And even without the gas station, the skylight is made of acrylic, it would decolor if not actually burn.

      What trailer are we talking about? There are about 150 W of LED lights all over our space. You can check out our van tour to see where they are located.
      If you followed our travels the issue with the alternator was that it was making noises. It was still producing power, but likely the brushes were worn out. You can see us changing the alternator in another video.
