Thank you Jay Postones for your contribution to the band! Your musicality and precision is something I can only wish to imitate some day. I am music student at a university and you are a constant inspiration I look to when practicing. Thank you again. Love everything you and Tesseract do.
I hate when they don't play the full Singularity track. That opening riff right when it breaks down - fucking insanity, but never live :( Why guys, is there a legit reason?
I know your comment is 5 years old, but still: In the recent "Portals" stream he was singing alternative melodies, basically lower harmonies of the original ones. Which is the right thing to do vs. forcing too much.
bruh. What do you mmean by "Ashe's range"? Both Altered State, One and a few from Polaris got songs that have the same key with one another so these 2 sang pretty much on the same range. Y'all seem to think Ashe has a higher voice because he sounds more effeminate than Dan.
I saw you getting fancy there on Nocturne ( 7:21 ). I'm a drummer at heart and like to focus in on listening to drums, so, you have been quite entertaining.
Very graceful and powerful playing. You are an inspiration to aspiring groove masters. Halpern and yourself have similar techniques, pretty cool. I love that dynamic drum lick from 5:20 and 5:24. The five stroke on the tom inbetween every other phrase is really an awesome taste. If I had to summerize your drumming in a few words I'd use, tasteful, creative, and groove. Oh dude I just saw that awesome groove you did just before the quiet part in nocture, so sick! Keep it up.
Love your playing, Jay. Altered State is one of my favorite albums ever, along with that guy's whose set is next to you (: First thing I did was learn this song. It'd be so fun to play it live at a show. But as a drummer I just wish you would smack that china harder haha. China's are for laying into!
Great drumming and great video to watch as always. Singularity for some reason is still to this day my top played and replayed song from TesseracT. Infact, one of my top replayed songs ever. And that's saying a whole lot. But I cant help but feel that there's a slight overkill of cymbal fest on those pre-chorus and chorus part (if you can call them that). There's a different splash or china or crash being played almost every 16th note lol. I know that it's probably meant to sound like a cymbal fest and it is being played on a pattern, but for me I'm not sure it works, I think it affects the sound consistency... Just personal aesthetic preferences I guess. I find Nocturne cleaner and more consistent, on that area at least, despite the ghostnote fest on the verse. Speaking of Nocturne, really wish the outro would be played live juuuuust oooooonce!
Does anybody know the particular cymbal stack he's hitting a bunch around 7:22? I'm guessing that's a 16" AAX O-Zone Crash stacked on top of something else. Anyone know what the other cymbal is? Such a great trash sound!
Abram Koucheki yeah that'd be sick. I'd like to see palingenesis too which, in my opinion, is even more of a mindfuck. Really brings justice to the tesseract philosophy.
palingenesis is actually pretty easy to wrap your head around after awhile, its just the doom doom, doom, pattern and the guitar playing the off beats, but its still pretty damn weird after the tempo change especially
I don't know dude. Every instrument's accents are independent of the other (with the exception of the bass drum and bass groove) it would be easy as shit to record because, like you said, it's pretty easy to wrap your head around, but not live. You'd have to have the focus of Luke Skywalker taking down the Death Star to keep your accents flawlessly consistent. I want to see that regurgitated on stage.
Yeh I tune that tom way away from the snare to help with unwanted snare-wire-buzz. It helps the tom cut through the mix live too. For studio recordings it's tuned properly though.
It's a 14" HH Thin Crash and a 10" O-Zone Splash. It's all on two racks - makes it easy to get on and off stage and gives me total confidence that nothing is moving when I play.
Cameron Jones this wasn't performed for this video if you've ever been to a show at a half decent venue this lighting is pretty typical, the people paid to see this show you're viewing it on UA-cam for free..
Right? How dare they pay for a ticket and actually want to pay attention to the band. I mean this is the the heaviest metal alive and basically demands people to start jumping into one another. What thoughtless, heartless, pussy wannabes, right? Enjoying a bands performance in the manor they see fit. Fucking bastards is what they are.
Having a room of people turn up to watch our show is incredibly humbling. Sometimes they're animated, other times they're chilled and on those nights the atmosphere is completely different. I chose this particular show for a drumcam video because at this show, I felt the most relaxed I have ever felt on stage. It was hypnotising. I completely forgot there was even a crowd. Check out the London crowd when the DVD is released - they were more than energetic.
Terrible Dactyl ..... Then how was the crowd terrible? So you think the crowd was terrible but it's not because they weren't animated with their movement?
This video is haunted... By all those ghost notes

Maybe cause it's tiring for Dan? It's a very difficult moment to sing, the notes are very high etc
Man, he is a great singer but I hope that singing in Ashe's range doesn't mess up his voice. The drumming is amazing as usual, by the way.
I know your comment is 5 years old, but still: In the recent "Portals" stream he was singing alternative melodies, basically lower harmonies of the original ones. Which is the right thing to do vs. forcing too much.
@@PaddyFullyRandom nice. glad to hear that
@@PaddyFullyRandom I’m so glad u commented this. Dan has improved his singing exponentially since this video was posted
@@NintendoCaprisunish Yes. As a bonus he also talks about these kinds of topics pretty openly, for example on their podcast.

Why don't y'all play the intro? I really enjoy the grove and drum shift after the riff in the intro.
Yeah I agree
I saw you getting fancy there on Nocturne ( 7:21 ). I'm a drummer at heart and like to focus in on listening to drums, so, you have been quite entertaining.
Flawless performance. I get goosebumps from watching !
Kit on the left looks like Gartska's... is it?
Yus!
No, his kit is on the left :-)
Daniel U touché
haha thats what I meant! :p
Yep, that's from the beast
that tom tom sound is so dope!
Thank you Jay Postones🤩🤩🤩

Keep it up.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing Jay. Always a joy to watch your playing.
Absolutely mesmerizing. Can't wait to see y'all in Dallas in April!
That is some awesome drumming right there man. I can't wait for the new album!
great sound of cymbals and drums, also admirable volume levels when playing, It's feeling that playing a professional drummer. Big WOW
Love it Jay! Can't wait for the new record!
Love your playing, Jay. Altered State is one of my favorite albums ever, along with that guy's whose set is next to you (: First thing I did was learn this song. dan sounds so fucking amazing
+Aditya Dimri I think Ashe sounds way better on this stuff, ya know considering they were written for his voice and are from the album he was on.
Not live. Ashe always sung his lower parts as opposed to the higher ones, where as Dan hits all the high ones.
For what Dan is doing, he sounds amazing. Yes, these songs are meant for Ashe, but Dan can pull them off pretty Dan well (see what I did there? :D)
The independence is more than real here, great job!
It was an awesome gig, merci beaucoup ! :D
Insanely good, holy shit.
Jay Postones você é Unico. que Estilo, e jeito de toca ritmos diferentes. lhe admiro muito ;)
the tom fill in Nocturne chorus! wasn't in the last video i watched and you bluntly told me you didn't feel like it... respect haha!
I am Dr. T`Soni and this is my favoutite song.
Great drumming and great video to watch as always.

That 21" Holy China is so sexy. First saw Blake Richardson using it. Hope to own one someday.
Does anybody know the particular cymbal stack he's hitting a bunch around 7:22? I'm guessing that's a 16" AAX O-Zone Crash stacked on top of something else. Anyone know what the other cymbal is? Such a great trash sound!
This song is so good. I bet that is Garstka's kit next to Jay's.
Jay, I miss your hair! What happened? :)
Tech bliddy beast. New taster is fucking spicy as well. All the bastard best.
Seigm I have so many questions about everything you've said here.
Any gig in Poland ? ;) Love to see you !
Jay belongs on /b/ because his parts are always random but also amazing as fuck.
It sounds like Dan's really starting to pick up the Altered State material, which is great because he's always been my personal favorite :)
3:10 gives me chills , everytime ...
Great performance!!! Left side drum from Garstka?
have you/ will you guys ever do the instrumental at the end of nocturne live? I'd love to see it played!
it is a rhythmic pain in the ass for sure haha
Abram Koucheki yeah that'd be sick. I'd like to see palingenesis too which, in my opinion, is even more of a mindfuck. Really brings justice to the tesseract philosophy.

very, very true. i would love to see this live
man he's tickling that snare, hope he bought it dinner...
The best!
Jay You're a fucking genius brother. How long how you been banging wooden sticks and stopping your feet. ?
Such an odd song to play just sounds so fucking right
EDIT: I will say that first tom sounds tuned way too high but it's such a non issue :P
Yeh I tune that tom way away from the snare to help with unwanted snare-wire-buzz. It helps the tom cut through the mix live too. For studio recordings it's tuned properly though.
Jay Postones Yeah it's totally different in your recordings.
Keep up the epic stuff though, this album is probably the best in the last ?? years
Jay Postones
I really liked the tuning, it gave a special attack to it and fit perfectly :-)
why dont play the first part of Singularity ? :c
Why don't they ever play the groovy beginning in Of Energy - Singularity?
Why font they ever play the full ending of Singularity or Nocturne?
That's a better question if you ask me.
cool stuff :)
Jay you fuckin beast!
That floor tom sound e.e!!
Jay please tell me what hats do you use in this video! sounds very clear!
The tone of the toms Kreygasm
Matt’s kit sitting casually over there
Why don't they play the intro?
Yeap that's definitly garstka's kit to the left.
Hey, Jay! What's that snare-the hybrid brass/steel?
sick
Whats the stack made up of? And do you keep everything on a curved pearl rack?
It's a 14" HH Thin Crash and a 10" O-Zone Splash. It's all on two racks - makes it easy to get on and off stage and gives me total confidence that nothing is moving when I play.
Sweet, the stack sounds awesome and I've been experimenting with having one, Yeah i have the same but with the RJ-50 in the middle.
sabian omg
Was that the bleed from the rest of the band you could hear on the mics?
Yes sort of - there's room mics and ambient mics in the mix so they're picking up the whole performance
Jay Postones, what are the two cymbals in that stack to the right?
14" HH thin crash and a 10" ozone splash
Jay Postones Nice! I'll have to look into that combo a little more.
Is that a raw bell dry ride? :D
yeah man .. HH raw bell dry ride 21" :)
+Yelawolf I have one of those too :) they sound amazing!
I will buy one soon hopefully :)
Nice :)
Is that holy china a 19" or a 21"?
Obviously a super late reply, but that's a 21". The 19" has 3 holes in each line, where as the 21" has 4.
I must say...Tompkins definitely performs better live..
would be so much better without the seizure inducing effect.
Well, it IS a live show afterall.
Not all of us are prone to seizures
neither am i but its totally useless.

Look at that awful crowd.... typical

I'm not sure that's what I insinuated.... I'm going to allow you too bask in that stupor.... When we assume things.... well you know...

Terrible Dactyl It makes a ass out you an me, right? I wasn't really being serious either. I just felt like being sarcastic haha.
