Same here! i also want to jump from the M13 to the Hx fx. I would appriciate a comparison between the mod, delay and reverb fx of the m13 and the hx fx
Hey Guitar Bonedo, Could you please demo the pitch shift/ whammy features? Is there anything in there to loop bass lines? Tom Morello stuff? No one is demoing those features of the hx and your demos are fantastic.
lashram32 Sothe helix Hx effect pedal (the one in this videos) has all the same effects and sound that the regular helix floor model has, just no amp sims or built in expression pedal. If you look for a helix cover of tom morello stuff, it will sound the same effects wise as the one in this video, you just have to buy an external expression pedal to control the pitch shifting/wah ua-cam.com/video/Xdunu-tnAR8/v-deo.html
sooo. Obviously much cheaper than the Helix or LT but how does it sound in comparison? Can I get the same tones (or close) to the more expensive models just not as many bells and whistles? anyone...?
you hook up any compatible expression pedal, i'm using the $30 proline guitar center brand expression pedal with my hx effects and it works just as well. you choose what effect you want, then click controller assign, and choose which parameter you want the pedal to control, and then click the Learn button, and it will automatically set the sweeping range.
Nice... curious if you or anyone here who owns an HX... are you able to get a good modern "metal" tone out of it ? I assume the distortion pedals are more 80' 90s rock (rat, centaur, OCD type tones..)
I own an HX, think of the HX as a Helix with just the effects, no amp modeling. There aren't any preamp style distortion pedals in it. If your amp just needs boost/gating/eq/tubescreamer the HX Effects can easily do all that and more. The manual on the Line6 site has all of the pedals it has listed.
Thanks! I would be interested in going a little deeper on this... In the digital world, there is no difference between a distortion pedal and a preamp pedal. Since the FX loop can support EQ and can be changed from line or instrument level outputs. Rat, OCD and the site also lists valve driver, timmy, heavy distortion? From some videos I've seen, it doesn't look like you can get a "good" modern metal tone from these effects alone.
Many modern metal tones come from amp/amp sims or a preamp style pedal which would have a fully fledged tone stack. Most of the distortion pedals the HXFX models are regular 3 or 4 control style ones that you've listed. If your amp just needs a little push over the edge it could get you there with a boost, dist/od pedal, or EQ.
Jakezor I know this is an old comment but those are the biggest questions I have with this that I can’t find a demo for. How do the internal drives work as a boost? How tight yet transparent is the noise gate?
Here is the second part and a more detailed sound demo of the Line 6 HX Effects. In this demo you hear the HX Effects with a clean tube amp in mono (Sovtek MIG50) and stereo (two Sovtek MIG50) and with impulse responses connected direct into the audio interface.
CAUTION ABOUT AMP SUPPORT!!! Hello everyone, my HX Effects does not work with my Engl Sreammer 50. The TRS jack puts some extra voltage on the amplifier, the lead led always has a dim light even when the channel is off. The polarity of one button is right and the other is inverted. Changing from EXP to Amp in the preferences also does not solve the problem, however, using EXP we can change the polarity (strange). There is also an increase in the gain of the amplifier. Using a Boss FS-6 pedal works fine. Also with Behringer FCB1010. I reported the problem to Line6 who replied: "Hi, HX Effects ability to control external amp channel and/or reverb switching has been tested with many popular amps and heads. Unfortunately this does not guarantee compatibility with all products. Note that, depending on the circuitry of the channel switching jack in the guitar amp used, the EXT Amp function may not operate as expected. Best regards, Technical Support Line 6 Support Europe" This is a copy/paste from the manual. Therefore, you buy the equipment and if you are lucky it works with your amplifier. I find out there are 3 Volts at the tip of the EXT Amp jack, Line6 support does not confirm if this is normal or a defect. No replay from then, very poor suport.
@@mikezarucki1821 well fuck i thought it was identical to the regular helix in that regard....i stand corrected. which begs the question, why the fuck would line 6 do that to their customers?
Yes probably. There isn’t a preamp built in. These are meant to replace just your pedals when you want to keep your amp rig. Perfect for me! I don’t need the amp for the acoustic set and I can save different presets for acoustic and electric and switch between them! So freaking excited. Just ordered mine
Yeah you’re in the minority on this one. Sorry man. This sounds excellent. Especially in a mix with a full band. You will never hear any subtle nuances that you’ll hear in a studio
Kudos for a great demo with stellar playing
Nice demo sir. More videos and demos sir 🔥 Greetings from Philippines!
Sound rockin! kinda glad i didnt get the talked about nux mg300 a while back, as i think this may be the 1 for me
Nice demo video. Great sound for a youtube vid. There are some really great sounds in the HX.
I’m planing to sell my my Strymons Timeline & Mobius to get this unit. I like the idea of having all in one pedal!!
I never had a Timeline but I sold the Strymon, and a hoop of pedals after I got my HX. Really impressed with it.

Sterling McVay why do you ‘keep using’ apostrophes ‘all the time?’, it’s ‘super weird’
A week after you sell them, you will regret it.
Great videos and great playing.. Thank you. Oh and nice sneakers too..
Thanks for the video, this quite represent what it could do!
HX effects have the same DSP limit problem like STOMP/STOMP XL ?

Same exact tones and sounds it just doesnt have any of the amp models
How did you get the wah pedal to activate as u move it??? Is it a setting in the helix hx or is it the pedal itself? If so. What brand and model pls?

it says in the manual that it won't work with all amps that way and that it can cause permanent damage if you hook it up to a non-compatible amp.

Many of the FX are taken directly from M9 though
Depends on what are you using, modulations are great. Drives are not as good, I agree.
