Kathy, Amit @D54pod and Melanie @PardesiReviews react to the new teaser Introducing Ashwatthama for the film Kalki 2898 AD, an upcoming 2024 Indian epic science-fiction dystopian film, co-written and directed by Nag Ashwin. Produced by C. Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies, it was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages. Inspired by Hindu mythology, the film is set in a post-apocalyptic world in 2898 AD. It stars Prabhas in the lead role alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani.

Agree both are different concepts. Dune is exceptional and totally based on Frank Herbert's Series. Kalki is Based on Kalki puran which is from Hindu mythology from India. A mythological student might even know the whole story of such puran.

1:- Ashwatthama's name itself is enough for hype to give you little info Ashwatthama is one of the 7 immortals like Hanuman (11th avatar of lord Shiva) ,Parsuram (6th avatar of lord vishnu) in our hindu culture and according to many hindu scriptures all 7 immortals are waiting for kalki ( 10th and last avatar of lord vishnu) to incarnate on earth to fight against evil and protect good will people and restart new yuge(era or age) .
2:- Ashwatthama is a unique immortal out of the other 6 because he was cursed to be immortal by lord Krishan (8th avatar of lord Vishnu) , he didn't get his immortality by blessing.
3rd:- he had a manni(magical stone) on his forehead with which he was born. That manni gave him infinite healing,slowing his aging, invincible to any attack on him basically an undefeatable warrior but after being cursed by lord Krishan that manni was taken out.
Because of that he is looking old now but can not die because of curse

Ashwathama is the son of Dronacharya (who was the teacher of all the main protagonists and antagonists in Mahabharata)

Ashwathama was cursed because he killed the successor of the PANDAVAS (protagonists in Mahabharata) while it was in its mother's womb.

Ashwatthama character is from Indian mythology( mahabharatam) and in we are talking about his immortality from ages. He has the stone on his forehead by birth. Vision may have been inspired by Ashwatthama, a character from Hindu mythology, without any hesitation or doubt😂
That kid is not prabhas as Aswatthama says "time for my final battle" means prabhas is elder not kid. Ashwatthama was cursed by Krishna that he will roam on earth with unhealed woulds with bleeding and pain till end of Kaliyug which supposed to be 6000 years from Krishna avatar end which is 3102 BCE so 6000 years mean 2898 AD.

Others have provided immense context .. only thing o can predict is that this movie is not going to be only one part if they go into each of 7 immortal's back stories.. it can be atleast 2-3 part.. even if they spend 10 mins for back story of each immortal.. or you know they can just run a scroll of backstories and decide to stop it there.. (like star wars in which case, western audience might find it tough to understand entire context)
These 7 immortals are supposed to help Kalki defeat the demon Kali.. (not to be confused with Mother Goddess Kaali) .. We identify this age as the age of Kali where Kali gets a free reign as a boon from Brahma ( the creator) to create chaos and until the end the God(s) are not supposed to interfere in his reign .they can protect individual devotees but not wage war on Kali .. the beauty of Kali yuga and why the last king of earlier age let him in is a fascinating story in itself. The entire Hindu scriptures is not about how but why.. which is why films like Ramayana will not be interesting for western audiences as most fail to understand intricacies of why anything is happening the way it is happening.
Well said, these movies are made for Indians and Hindus specially. Even Bahubali couldn't be understood completely by foreigners, they aren't able to understand some decisions of Kattappa, Shivagami and Bahubali whereas Hindus understand them because of the context of our epics i.e. Ramayana and Mahabharata.
