Spraying in moderate amount should be ok. Too much powder might clog the pores of the plant making it difficult for them to respire or photosynthesis.
thank you for this info. very helpful! I bought the regular kind of DE because they didn't have the food grade available. will it be okay thst I use it for the garden or do I absolutely need to use the food grade one only? if do, what other uses can I have for the normal grade one? can I still mix it on the soil in pots or ground around garden, just not on the actual plants and food?
the instructions I have is to mix it with water and spray it all over the plants and soil to completely cover it all. is this correct? or is there a different and as effective way to target pests like aphids and mites etc?

Thank you Keenah. Normal DE contains high Silica content that can be harmful to potted plants and food. But I think it should be ok to mix it in the soil in the ground. You can definitely give it a try.
If your plant is heavily infested then spray the whole plant as per the instructions. If not heavily infested then, try spraying the affected area and the topsoil. I would suggest you spray dry powder instead of wet because it will take time for it to dry and become active. Remember to wear a mask while administering DE powder to avoid inhaling it.

I have these beetles on my dahlias and they’re eating the flowers. Can this be used to treat that?
Yes, you can use this. But this might also kill the bees that might come in contact with the flowers.
The problem I've noticed with it . It only works on dry soil. If it rains or if the pot has even damp soil it doesn't work.
Hi Trina, I agree to the same that if the soil is wet, DE will not work that is why you must bottom water your potted plants to avoid this problem. If you are using it for outdoor plants then you will have to wait for the DE powder to dry to become active again.
