The criticism portion of this video is now largely inaccurate as the path has lessened some of the issues I brought up. Do not consider this video "irrelevant" as it still brings up the development of the game.
The fact that yamai described the process of remastering nocturne HD as "rebuilding a shrine" and went ahead to release it in this condition is just so puzzling to me.
Honestly I kind of hope that Yamai had very little input on Nocturne HD, because if he did make a lot of decisions then my respect for him has gone down heavily
@@Larrue Then why did he saw fit to release the game at this state? does he hate the game? did nintendo push him to release it early? he's generally a very competent guy, I just don't see how did he allow all this to get through.
I can't tell you why. He was working on two major projects, smtv and nocturne, managing outsourced labor is a different beast than internal stuff. There's too much room to speculate.
About that "missing credits" part. I noticed that Atlus tends to cut a lot of people putting their soul into the game. Like THE BEST MEGATEN COMPOSER, Hidehito Aoki, wasnt credited at all for the PSP remaster of Persona 1, even tho rest of composers working on the original were credited :(
@@Larrue Game still has credits for staff working on the original version, including old composers and everyone there is credited except Hidehito Aoki
I hope that Atlus releases a version to Steam, so that modders can change the skill randomizer because is really annoying spending over 30 min getting a good skill set. Edit: Finally they released a patch
Skill selection is a big deal for me, everytime i was going to fuse demons in Nocturne it taked WAY to long to get the skills i want, that is actually the reason why i droped Nocturne, it was becoming absolutly unbareble that i needed to spend 20 minutes just to fuse 3 demons
Your feelings and how you got into “Nocturne” mirror my own experience. I picked up “Nocturne” back in 2004 when I was in college because the art style and everything else was so different compared to all the other JRPG’s at that time. I ended up loving it and because of that, I took another chance on a game called “Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3” a few years later and loved it! (And while I know that the “Persona” series doesn’t carry the “SMT” moniker in Japan, I still consider it an “SMT” sub-series like “Devil Survivor” for various reasons too numerous to go into here). I was really looking forward to being able to play “Nocturne” on my Switch but sounds like Atlus didn’t put as much effort into this release as they have other remasters sadly.
If the rumors are true that this is getting a PC release when it comes to the west, I will absolutely be grabbing that. Even if the issues aren't addressed, I'm sure it won't take long for mods to correct them. I haven't owned a PS2 in years and I don't have the cash or room in my living space to accommodate more systems anyway. For the sake of preservation I want older games to get ported to modern hardware, and I think PC is the best case scenario for that because mods can always correct oversights on the developer's end. The many glitches in Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition didn't stop that from becoming extremely popular, so I don't see a good reason that Atlus couldn't bring more of their back catalog to PC.
Absolutely same! I bought Persona 4 Golden when it hit Steam, and I LOVED it! I wanna get into the rest of the MegaTen games, so I'm also checking out the ones on 3DS!

I'm playing the game with the HD music mod (hacked switch master race - but it's available to PC as well and you don't have to do any shady shit). I watched some gameplay recently and by god it makes such a huge difference
I can only expect them to have the game fully patched from bugs and slowdowns when Atlus west gets the order to start pushing the game just after P5S releases to avoid one game being overshadowed by the other. Most likely we'll get another trailer only to reveal the game is releasing in one month + steam release and maybe physical collector's edition.
😭 funny. If the steam version ran on Mac I’d buy it day one, I’m really into the idea of using/creating a mod to patch the PS2 font back in! #aesthetics
Definitely not the reason, why is it much smoother on ps5? It's because it wasn't optimized properly, I wouldn't blame unity when other unity games run fine on consoles. Though I only played a handful on console, what unity games run poorly on console?
I hope we get more DLC/updates for this one. I could see all kinds of options like altering the main character's appearance, female main character, new magatama, items, enemies, bosses, etc.

Ngl, kinda glad it wasn't an in house remaster
So basically it's just a port. Sure hate to see P1 and P2 just get a port and not a proper remaster.
The guy at 12:09 called nocturne megaten 3 smh, megaten 3 is SMT1, because it’s the 3rd game in the megaten franchise
Generally Atlus and fans consider SMT 1 the first game, probably due to the legality of ownership of the first two games.
yeah, mainline games are usually called メガテン (megaten) or just 真 (shin) followed by whichever numbered entry.
