I was hostile. then they showed Daniel Day Kim on the castlist.
I was skeptical until I saw the rest of the cast.
I Was neutral until I saw the teaser.
I was tempering hope until the trailer.
Now I am hype.

A behind the scenes with the producers of the Netflix Avatar the last airbender show on youtube that I found by chance, as a result of the new trailer dropping, the day the new trailer dropped, revealed that in designing the costumes, the Netflix producer noted that the waves, ripples, swirling water, and patterns of water changing state are found on the clothing of waterbenders like Katara, while non-benders of the water tribe like Sokka have fixed geometries in the patterns of their water tribe clothing.
The waves on Katara’s water tribe outfit indicate she is a waterbender. The Triangles / fixed geometry of Sokka’s water tribe outfit indicate he is a non-bender. According to some behind the sceenes each tribe has clothing that indicate bender or non-bender for water, earth and fire. (All airbenders are benders intrinsically).
The producer said “…watch for it, even in earth kingdom, and fire nation outfits, benders and non-benders will be indicated by distinguishable clothing patterns connected to the appropriate bending element, or fixed static patterns (I.e. not all fire nation soldiers are firebenders) if one is paying attention.” It is a new aspect/detail that the producers / costume designers added as an Easter Egg. It also helped distinguish on set bending actors/actresses from non-bending actors/actresses to assist in keeping the choreography and appropriate actions consistent for individual scenes.

I love the fact btw. So technically shouldn't the fire nation be like she's a water bender get her! everytime they see her. (if they care enough to memorize the patterns and differences of course)

I want Dante Basco to have a Cameo appearance in this Live Action Series of Avatar The Last AirBender that would be so cool.
The over the top version of sokka in the play from the fire nation would be perfect imo
Hearing the original theme music was ALREADY a green flag for me. As well as, the bending looking so fluid and natural as it should be shown. But I'm super stoked for it and I hope it does well and they get a Book 2 and beyond🤞🏼

While Shyamalan is the face of the movie and I’m not defending him, a lot of the mistakes were due to the producers. One of which forced them to cast his granddaughter as Katara (Nikola Peltz) which forced them to cast a white guy as Sokka for her brother. Knowing they needed someone actually talented they casted Dev Patel after doing Slumdog Millionaire which forced them to cast Indian people as the fire nation ethnicity which caused the controversy. They also made changes that Shyamalan was against but was overruled and it all became the nothingness we know of now. Or don’t know of 🤔

The Showrunner/Director and the Producers of the this ATLA Live Action said they never watched the M Night movie. Also go watch the Producers commentary on the trailer if you haven't people, it will make you realize the show is in good hands. Also be aware there will be changes (I thin they combining some stories of episodes, like Zhao will attack Kyoshi Island, etc)

Yeah Sozin is attacking Monk Gyatso in THAT ROOM, where Aang finds his skeleton 100 years later. If you look at the floor in the trailer, you see dead Firebenders on the ground (Gyatso was not scared to kill in self defense, he used the air suction technique) Also it's him speaking at the start.
Yeah the Mulan LA did a great job removing talking dragons and the laws of physics for authenticity 😂
The "night" movie was written as if nobody working on it saw the source material and had an over-excited 5 year old describe it to them.
We definitely deserve this after the disaster of a movie. This should be amazing

In spirit...i feel the same about burning everything of the movie that wont be named. However in practicality i think its a movie MORE studio producers need to see so they will learn the lesson of "you dont fuck with a story that already has a large and stable fan base"!!!
Ohh my GOD when they brought the theme music in and then the “chgah chga chsh chsh CHGAH cha..” ending/fight theme piece I was way more hype than I expected to be. That ending theme makes me dance.

I also nearly cried watching the trailer and the teaser trailer. ATLA and the ATLA universe mean so much to me and so I am so excited to see the live action series! I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable, but I am also just super excited! The cast, costumes, sets, visual effects, bending, art, story, writing, crew all seem really good (the casting really is so spot on!) I cannot wait to watch the series and I cannot wait to see your guy's reactions to it! 💛

Maple I did cry. And I’m crying again. “The Blue Spirit” is one of my absolutely favorite episodes of the show, and the clip we saw of that episode in this trailer is what got me excited and less apprehensive. I realized as I cried the first time I watched this: I was genuinely a bit traumatized by the movie, not because of how bad it was, but because it was so many people’s first exposure to this universe. The incredible piece of art that is ATLA was completely overlooked and legitimately disliked by tons of people who had *only seen the movie*. This show and everything about it are so meaningful to myself and so many others, and it was genuinely upsetting how I felt I needed to plead with people to “please give the show a chance, the ___ is absolutely not what the show is, please,” which fell on deaf ears.
Anyway back to listening…

Effects more advanced. Yes. However Jurassic park had A LOT OF CGI. The Trex scene with the car. The trex and car in certain scenes were cgi.

Mushu wasn't in the original story of Mulan, that's what the live action was an interpretation of. IT WASN'T AN INTERPRETATION OF THE ANIMATED MOVIES. The animated movies were a massively dumbed down version of The Ballad of Mulan...

I feel like you guys should rewatch season 1 lol aang has a lot of serious emotional scenes in season 1, just alot more comedy and stand alone episodes compared to season 2 and 3
In hindsight, if the movie wasn't as bad as it is, we wouldn't get this.
If the movie was ok or just acceptable, there won't be a reason to redo it as faithful to the original as this.

Just to clarify this is not going to be 1 for 1 telling so don’t expect it to be past avatars will have bigger roles in mentors to aang the tone they are going for is book 3 and game of thrones flashbacks will be tweaked around new stuff will be added and the director said this isn’t a weekly happy adventure like the show it’s going to more of a dram Netflix wants this show to be their new stranger things so they dumped a lot of effort into this and care will have to see I just wanted to clarify that

I know this isn't your format, but I would have loved to have seen you watch it again and stop it at certain points and get super excited as you interpret what things mean.

Speaking of the SHAMALAMA SHIT SHOW! For my 21st birthday I hate watched the DVD copy of the movie had my avatar friends and i sign the dvd case and we smashed the physical dvd and I framed it. I first got into the series through seeing that crap IN THEATERS when I was a dumb kid, then watched the original series and grew the biggest hate for the live action movie and I was considering having a burning ritual of the dvd but I didn’t want to cause a neighborhood fire😂 otherwise I wouldn’t done it it was my original plan

I wanna see a Live Action Series of Beavis And Butthead
The fire is never going to get there with CGI, it has to be done practical. Example go to 32 seconds, you can't fix that in post, there has to be something (fire or at least a light) on set to get the lighting right. Same with the water, unless you have James Cameron money. They did wind pretty well in Shan-Chi and earth is sort of a given you can do with CGI. Because of safety I don't think we'll ever get better fire than what we had in the 90's. Lethal Weapon 4 opening, Reign of Fire, Backdraft, Mission Impossible fish tank, etc. Forgivable if the story, acting and editing is fine but it still annoys me.
Part of me thinks there's no way to improve on the animated show.... So what's the point?? But its nice to have a new way to revisit that joy. Lets hope they can overcome the limitations of live-action: budget, scale, effects, fewer episodes, actor aging...
They already ruining Sokkas character, basically ruining his whole character growth. Tragic. Taking out his sexist remarks and basically have him being humbled by women the whole series so that he comes to value and respect the women in his life and all they’ve done for him. That was like half his growth as a maturing warrior. Now his arc is probably gonna be shallow comedy with zero depth.
Bad News: the original creators of Avatar walked away from this live action show due to creative differences.
Apparently, Sokka might not be the same Sokka we know and love.
