Would be awesome if you add to that breakdown how you research job posts, whether it's word of mouth, internet, etc etc. Reason I ask is because I'm about to be 42 in May located the US and I'm looking to transition out of the oil and gas "non pilot role" into a full time pilot role. Comm FW/Rotor ifr on both, cfi fw, rotor cfi check in the coming days after the new year. Currently have 1087hrs piston rotor, 1241hrs fixed wing that has a lot of night and under the hood time. I was lucky to build a bunch of time doing rice, predator control and pipeline observation. Plan is to take ATP checks on both and then go job hunting after my birthday in May. Any suggestions sir?

Excellent work, was so cool to see the 407 come in as when you're inside it looks slow-as, but really shows off the speed and accuracy!
I would have 100% pronounced Nug's name as "Ash-linn" but that might be an Irish thing!
    Love the video as always!!

Love your little tomahawk clip after "if you ask me I'm the best on the hill". I have skied with CMH multiple weeks and the pilot skills are beyond amazing (as was the skiing, the guides and the food). And in case no guests ever say it, riding in the chopper is as much fun as the skiing!!!

Great video, your sense of humor makes these a lot of fun to watch! Love the sound of Bell's machines. I fly in a 407 every summer (as a passenger) for heli-camping in the Coast Mountains so it's a very nostalgic sound for me. Not sure if you've ever considered White Saddle Air Services for a summer contract, but I suspect they'd be right up your alley!

Dang it's beautiful up there! I worked for alpine back in 2000 as an apprentice engineer and pretty sure I have some entries on AHI's log book. Looking sharp with that black paint job.... Oh, and can confirm that no sandwich is safe around maintenance 👍

fog and cloud can and has taken a LOT of drivers. watch slamming into the snow, when you seat. If you catch a rock you can bend a skid or crosstube and with it crack across the floor. Usually those gigs are for the senior citizens of the industry, Its like a retirement home for drivers or guys called Kyle.

    Loving the content Darcy!
Had some changes in my life recently and been thinking of getting my heli license (in vic, Aus). My partner is Canadian and we have been talking about moving back to Canada (we meet in Revelstoke while I was living there and that place stole my heart and I still get home sick when I think about it), how hard was it to convert your license to Canada and how is it going between aus and Canada for work? Any advice for a mid 30’s dude thinking about changing careers and becoming a pilot?

    • @bushpiloting
      @bushpiloting  2 дні тому +1

Hey mate, I am also from Vic,
Flying helicopters has been a sweet career choice for me, that being said, I started when i was 18 and saw some of the older guys give up opportunities that i was able to take because they had other responsibilities (mortgage, house, kids ect).
So starting off with a fresh license ,that's what you're going to have to compete with, people like me a decade ago.
It appears you already have the what they call, The Golden Ticket, by having a Mrs with a Canadian passport.
Australia is a great place to build hours quick with a fresh license. I did my first 1400 hours in tourism around Australia before I made the move to Canada and started working in utility. Thats when I started to really learn how to fly.
In my experience its easier being a 100 hour pilot in Australia than Canada, but i think that is starting to quickly change. I got cross shifted on a drill job by a girl with 200 hours last year.
right time right place right attitude, always

Meanwhile, Most Canadian Helicopter operators have all their machines locked away in the hangar and not booked for any flying till spring and you can see them advertising "jobs"
when there is no job until spring.
Its amazing, the same operators are wanting to hear from the same pool of pilots who were working last year.
Their bare minimum hours required is plus 1000 and 100 hours on type.
Meanwhile schools in Australia and Canada pump out commercial helicopter pilot licences
with only a fraction ever getting a job.
One of the problems is the assumption that 1000 hours is some kind of guarantee of "experience" that has little to do with proficiency.
Alpine are one of the more common sense operators in Canada.
I had my first 206 flight at Alpine and never dreamed then that I'd end up later
    with a CPL.
