I did a small spell with woodland firefighting out of high school, we had three choppers dropping buckets trying to slow it down and the crew I was with almost got backed into a corner. If it wasn't for someone with the skill, nerve, and good awareness to drop those buckets with good accuracy we may have had to abandon our position or even god forbid do a burn over. So hats off to you and what you do, fly safe out there.
great video.....I rather listen to the helicopter than that music.....helicopter sounds are music to some people....lol
New subscriber here. Love the content but I agree. Chopper audio is batter than music. Looking forward to seeing more content.
Just found your video and enjoyed watching it. Excellent flying and excellent 360 camera at work and the music wasn’t too bad either. Thanks for producing it.
Excellent insight into the never ending struggle to control fire.
Thank you.
Great footage from angles you usually never get to see. As an Air attack officer in Alberta I work with both airtankers and rotorwings over fires and I have guided and then thanked many a helicopter pilot for hitting some nasty flareups with their bucket while i was waiting for a tanker to return with a reload. Makes for a really great bit of teamwork! Total pros and bros!
Gotta be honest......... as obsessed with helicopters as I am, my favourite part was when you were chatting about getting food when you picked the guys up. I can relate.
Another great video!
Including the maintenance and explanation at the end is appreciated too 👌🏻
Nice work! Loved the angles you got with the 360, combined with interior and audio made for a stellar video :) excited to see more. Subscribed! 🎉
Thanks for taking us along!! The 360 camera does wonders for getting a good shot! look forward to seeing your next adventure!! subbed!!
I love the 360 / 3-D cam visuals both inside the cabin and on the line! Great work on with bambie... ;_)
This is great. My son is a Type 1, and I have always been curious how the heli show works.... you have one of the coolest jobs on the planet...Thanks alot!! (btw - glad to hear about the rain....even if it does slow things down a bit).
Crazy skills man. I was holding my breath when you had the bucket between the trees.
hey Mate, great vid, great editing, great camera work, great song. A job well done!
Awesome video mate. Just about to finish my CPLH in OZ. Looking forward to these types of jobs 👍
Nice job! Interesting to see your work! Greetings from the Netherlands
Excellent! Careful, precise, safe (relatively).
Videoing our flights is a great way to analyse and identify issues that we may need to correct in the near future - well done. It looks like the bucket went between the cables while setting up maybe? Thanks for another great video, I really enjoy these.
Yeah I noticed a few things about myself that I hadn’t seen before hahah thanks for the feedback man I really appreciate it
Wonderful footage, thanks from France !
Good one! I'm a firefighter too, in Spain with the b412. Just wanted to point something out... Please, check the water release system before, ideally during the first pick up, just do a very small water pick up and check the system on the water, otherwise, if it fails with the bucket full of water, using almost all the power, you´ll get yourself into a trouble. Keep going!
Yeah thanks for the insight. It was the first bucket of the season but not my first rodeo
What an awesome job you have mate Subscribed ✔️
Nice video, I would fly with you anytime. That was tricky getting the bucket into the trees without getting snagged. Must be sorta stressful. Love that helicopter, they are so fun. Helicopters are safer than fixed wing in the backcountry because you can most always find a clearing if you lose an engine. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing footage. Thanks
Thank you for this cool perspective
The music astonish me in a good way, very nice!
Awesome skills there dude! Keep it up. 😎🚁💪
What a wonderful job you have.
Nicely done!
Great vid mate 😎 fly safe
impressive flying!
Great work only just found your channel. Subbed
Great vid! Great insight!!
Awesome.. I'm working so hard to get into aerial fire fighting :)
Well done. Very exemplary 🤙🏻
Like your attitude I got a good chuckle from your profile "I am not an influencer. I have a job." You sound like a Kiwi?...Subscribed.
as someone who does quiet a bit of mop up, i wanna say DAMN i would LLOVE to have a heli helping out on mop up hahahah so rad what an awesome job! , stay safe and keep getting after it boss!
I have the same problem with a sea anchor. Ie the head tangles the lines if it is stowed loose. What I have learned to do is just tie the lines together below the head so it is obvious if it has gone through the lines. This saves alot of untangling when you go to use it. Hope this works on your system too 😎👍
Checks all the time most important 😂 good job well done.
That was a wonderful video thanks
Keep up the good work
Crazy stuff, also there are still lingering burns from a fire a YEAR AGO? That's nuts. I thought you were like.... watering the trees for logging purposes or something until I noticed smoke/steam after one of your drops
You can see a cord unplugged shortly after takeoff at the top of the screen this may have been mentioned already great video
Can you do a Vid on how you progressed from CPL to where you are now? I recently got my CPL and getting into the industry is pretty rough if you dont have alot of connections :)
Good Job!
A comment on the cables. I worked with helicopters during wildfire suppression activities using Bambi Buckets - we didn't use electrical tape to keep the cables organized when not in use or while in transportation. Instead, flagging was the preferred method, - reason being, 1.) electrical tape requires time to remove before each flight and is pretty strong, if the tape is left on the cables don't separate like they should. 2.) Use brightly colored flagging - colors allow for visual confirmation that the lines are bound together when not in use. 3.) When it's time to put the bucket to work the weight of the bucket will put tension on the cables and snap the flagging off, giving you an even and clean separation of the cables. If assigned to Initial Attack (IA) duties time isn't always in your favor...you arrive on scene, get everything hooked up as it should be and get back in the air. The above suggestions are just that, a suggestion, they may not work for you. Hope this was useful.
Yeah I’m probably not gonna use flagging tape dude but thanks for the suggestion
Good job
great video!!! 😎👍
The "half moons" (no idea what they are called in english) can be split, its just a pin u need to knock out, just friction that holds it. its also a shim in there, so dont lose that when splitting. have to do it some times on the lifting equipment on our cranes
It's pretty safe working with Canadians as they always carry a pencil - because you never know when you might come across a sketchy situation
Oh I thought this was gonna be a small peepee joke. That would’ve been better.
"You're at my three o'clock"... classic 😂
I've said that when flying with mates - and then realised what I said was useless to them haha. A correction follows shortly after of course.
@CrayonboxAviationAdventures wouldn't that mean they're on my 9 and I should look left or am I missing something
@@RegularItemShow he could be at any clock position around you and facing any direction.
@@Blackcloud_Garage ohh because I don't know what cardinal heading he's facing. I was thinking about it more in line of two planes flying in the same general direction (or a known direction)
You should try and get the water bucketing job next fireseason in tassie lol
Those trees so close made me nervous...
awesome vid :D
amazing content
Man I love your music
I remember doing this when I was in military it was minimum 4 mans job. did with blackhawk. Bambi's are heavy lol thanks for the memory.
“You’re at my 3 o’clock”😂👌
A friend was involved with the power tower extension project. I asked him if he tried the e-ticket ride😆. He says what you mean the rigger seats on the end of the helicopter tether? Ha ha. He’s an engineer his response was hell no! Ha ha.
New here, I’m sort of confused to what you’re actually doing that’s useful? Also are there wild fish in those rivers you scoop the water from?
cool vid, sweet job on the line, but not sure why the taping 2 sides separetly is still showed ? i did that for years too....instead grab all your wires together and tape them all together that way there is no chance of your head tangling back in trough the middle and the tape releases much easier on your first drop ...cheers have a safe summer
Great video, a little piece of advice to help the issue with the first bucket. Always test the bucket before you get to the fire. I always test right at the first dip to make sure. Sometimes your dipsites are miles away from the fire. Also why are you running the bucket on the remote hook? I never seen that before, seems like more complications and if you have to pickle the line for whatever reason your hook and bucket are trashed.
This would be a great opportunity to do something like this especially in a Bell 407
Just curious how much do aircraft systems help with the hovering? I really struggle to hover when looking directly down, I gotta look forward to do it effectively
what is the point of pouring water on these random marked out areas ?
Awesome video. What's your verdict on that Lift Helmet? I've heard not so good reports regarding it!
Hey man. Yeah look I love it, so comfy, especially if you are flying 8 hour days. There are a couple of downsides and maybe I’ll do a review of the helmet later on
Dont listen to the haters! Keep doing you my man!!
"You're at my three-o'clock" - like that narrows it down😶
Great video!!! I wonder what is minumum experience to get a helicopter job in Canada? It is good place to get hours for easa licensed pilots?
Just curious as to why your basket for all your rope and gear is on the same side you pilot from doesn't that shift the center of weight too much or is it not a problem?
The helicopter sits left skid low, so having the basket on the right side helps that
Forgive the rookie question, but why is it necessary to lower the basket down into the trees and take on that risk of snagging? Can't you just drop it from above the trees? Deflection off the branches? - thx
If you had an issue that didn't allow you to fly back from where you were stationed, how far is the closest road? Or would another helicopter be needed to come rescue you and the guys? great video.
Another helicopter would come get us. This far north in summer, the sun sets at midnight… so daylight is not an issue
Thanks 🙏 interesting vid. Does the bucket ever scoop up debris lifting water from those small ponds? I’d guess there’s quite a few weeds, branches, 🐸s floating around in that water….
Mmm if it does it’s mostly loose branches and weeds that could be laying on the bottom
Living the dream 🇨🇦🏍️
Nice work! Why aren’t they mopping up with pumps and hose since they’re so close to a water source? Back in my days, I’d get my ass chewed off for wasting money and resources like that. Did a ton of bucketing, just not when it wasn’t necessary.
Fantástic.
What was wrong with the water release system? I thought I saw a part (rope?) fall when you tried to release the first time.
Great footage but lose the music because everyone's taste in music is different. We have helicopters with buckets almost daily running here where I live as in late July and early August is prime wildfire season. One year we had seven helicopters in one of our fields using it as an LZ. Then in 2018 we had a wildfire burn to our back yard and we had 4 helicopters working to save our home and outbuildings. Thank you for your service.
Wow, you are a really good pilot to be able to maneuver between those tree branches, so the bucket doesn't get caught in them. Not fond of the added music, I'd prefer the natural sounds :)
Skip the music 🤨🤨 Awesome video 💪💪👍👍
Tell me more about your Lift Helmet? Ive heard the name but don’t know anyone who has one. I need to replace mine.
Man, it’s comfy as hell, but it’s made to fit one size and is unadjustable, so will be difficult to sell onto someone else. I think the new one is ajustable
Did you see something fall out just before 5:08 into the video? It fell to the right and then onto the floor?
I see what you mean. I think it was just some grass or something that was pinched in the wires
For W&B, couldn't the gear basket be on the opposite side of the pilot?? Great vid!
Negative. The bell 407 sits left ski low due to the effect of tail rotor roll. To counteract this they have designed the machine to accommodate the basket on the right side, as well as the pilot
um, why are you using a cargo hook? if you need to punch the bucket you use the belly hook so that you drop the line as well... especially since you're dragging the bucket through the trees like that. no PPE either, insane how different canuck fire is from us...
The cargo hook is bypassed to the bucket there captain 🧑✈️
The bucket works better too when it has a whole bunch of holes in it from dragging it through the trees. That’s how we do it in Canada 🍁
My mama told me
Be a simple kind of man
Someone who fly a helo every day
😎💪
Why are you bucketing water on a fire that’s already out?
Why not Fly on the Left Side so you don't have to move your body so much to look out the window?
@@bushpiloting Since you're using the Helicopter for dropping water, why not fly it on the left side because it would be more ergonomical?
Yeah you’re not wrong, but that’s not how these machines were certified to fly single pilot
I’m surprised with today’s technology that bubble windows are still used versus a camera displaying on a screen. Do you know if that’s being worked on and is just going through a long certification process? Are glass cockpits just not that common yet?
This would have been such a fantastic video.......without the music. So cool to see this though - ive always wondered what water bucket helis - day in the life was.
What brand of bucket you are using?
@@bushpiloting I worked with Simplex and Bambi. Bambi is the way to go. Safe flying.
Are these hot spots? Is that why the basket is going so low?
Hey man, yeah these are just hot spots, so I’m just taking my time and trying to accurately hit the areas of concern.
No way the guy on the ground is called Bruce 😂
Drop the music when helicopter sounds better 😊
What province was this taken place in?
@@bushpiloting Good stuff! Hopefully Canada is treating you well. Greetings from North SK
Congratulations you made a music video.
I should have said, I’m only joking. Very nice video. I appreciate your time.
Aren't you guys scared of FOD? How do does this thing work?
Is it some sort of underground fire?
Yeah pretty much, it was a fire that was still smouldering over from the previous year

"You're at my 3 o'clock"
"Yeah that doesn't help me but um I see someone with a hose"
Haha this happens more than you think.. You're on my 12. As i turn the heli, he turns to face me, you're still on my 12.
