PATHOPHYSIOLOGY STUDY TIPS | For Nursing & NP Students
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2018
- Pathophysiology and Advanced Pathophysiology are some of the hardest classes in nursing and NP school! But you can absolutely pass them, and this video has some of my tips to help you get there! In this video I’ll go over how I decide what I’m going to read in patho, my methods for skimming information, and where I find additional information to supplement my learning. Advanced patho in particular really made me get creative with how I found and digested information, since there wasn’t a lot of lecture, and I’m not someone who learns well from books. I’ll throw out some helpful ways for auditory and visual learners as well as give my favorite tips for studying. Hope it helps! And remember, you CAN do this. Just take it one day at a time!

I’ve been following you since I was a fresh meat in Nursing school. Now, here I am getting ready to start NP school NEXT WEEK!😬😬😬 I am grateful for your amazing videos!
"Use their references from their articles." *chef's kiss* THANK YOU FOR THIS SIMPLE YET EFFICIENT TIP!!!!
I can't speak for every Patho book but many of them (including the one that Liz showed) have a study guide you can buy for like $35- $40 dollar that you can use to quiz yourself to make sure you are ready for your exam, that's what I did. It made me feel a little more confident that I would be ready for the exam and of course, if I did badly on the study guide I knew I needed to study more.
Thanks for mentioning that!! This is what I mean about study methods being different! I had that study guide and didn’t like it because I felt it was too broad and overwhelmed me. But I love that it worked for you! Thanks for mentioning it so it can help others too!!
Thank you. I bought the study guide. It'll help me know what I need to focus on
Honestly I feel like this video legit came to life and hugged me and said everything will be alright.
Thank you so much! I just started patho and my professor just reads PowerPoint slides from the textbook during lecture and I've been feeling lost. your tip about looking at the objectives in the book helped give me a lot of direction about what's important to study 😊
Thank you SOOOO much!! ❤❤Just started patho last week and the anxiety level has been through the roof. You are helping me find my groove...awesome advice!
I am literally ready to cry bc you have given me hope that I can pass this class!!! I appreciate you sharing and being so positive! Your tips, tricks, and resources are SO helpful. Thank you so very much!
Liz,
I just found this video and its 2022! SO RELATABLE! and I really appreciated how you broke everything down to be better prepared for this course! I am currently in Pathophysiology and it is a BEAST! I'm going to check out that podcast and defiantly that book you mentioned! I know it's late in the game but my podcast of choice is Crime Junkie or The Deck, both Audiochuck podcast. I'm obsessed with all of their podcasts.
Thank you again!
I just subscribed. Your personality and tips are priceless. I’m starting my DNP this coming fall and I’m dreading it. I think you make things so practical and you’re very helpful.
please make a podcast series this literally calmed me down bless u🥺
So glad it was helpful!
She calmed my nerves too
I feel like I can actually do this after watching you video. I did have a freak out moment when you first started talking about how hard it is, but then you laid it out all in a logical way and I feel like I can do it now! Thanks for this video!
Thank you, Liz! In the beginning of this class with the first exam next week, so appreciate your advice! ❤️
Hope your semester goes well!
You are a WEALTH of information and I am so thankful for you! I'm a mama of 2 little ones and have made the decision to go back to school to get my BSN in an accelerated program. I have a bachelor's in business and started my pre-reqs for nursing school 10 years ago, but life happened and I put it all on the backburner. I'm excited to go back, but I'm definitely having mom guilt and am nervous jumping back in as an older student who has been out of the classroom for so long. Your videos have given me hope and encouragement that I CAN do this!
I don't have Patho until second semester (school starts 8/29) and these videos are helping me prepare for the future. So appreciated! Love love love your videos.
Omg thank you so much! I was so overwhelmed by the amount of reading and panicking! I will try these tip. Very helpful
I'm so glad! It is definitely a lot to take in, but you can do it! One day at a time
OMG, this video literally is SAVING ME. So accurate to my Nursing School! Thank you Liz! I just started my Pathophysiology class! Hearing your words of encouragement literally is what I needed today. Thank you!
you got this!!
Thank you so much for this video! I started NP school 5 weeks ago and I feel so overwhelmed. Been out of nursing school since 2012 so recharging to focus again is so hard! Thank you for your encouragement. I really needed this!
Hang in there! The beginning is so rough as you re-enter the school mode and find out how the program is going to go.
You make things seem easier, I didn't say easy. You actually help give that push that is needed. Thank you, I appreciate that!
I’m so glad it was helpful! You can do it!
Can I just say how much I love you? I started watching your vids two years ago when I went back to school to pursue my nursing dream. I'm in my 3rd week of nursing school now and to see your smiling, reassuring face makes me feel so much better about my decision.
Thank you! You are so awesome! Taking Patho and feeling better after your video! It’s been 20 years since I went to college! Yes, this too shall pass! 🙏🏼❤️✝️💕
you got this!!
Oh gosh, thank you.. I needed to hear all of this. Currently taking patho and pharm.
THank you so much for the encouragement!!! I actually had started doing exactly what you said (focusing on the objectives and youtube video lectures). Haven't had my first test yet and Im scared to death but you helped calm me down a bit. Its good knowing Im NOT the only one feeling this way!!!. Ok, back to hitting the books...uggg
You got this!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 for your first exam!
Thank you so much! I was freaking out after my first day of class but this gave me some hope!
I see that this video is old but I just had to say thank you for sharing this information and your study tips... Especially your tips on tackling the book. I typically set aside about 6hrs a day for patio and yesterday I spent 6 hrs on 4 pages. And I was so defeated because i just kept thinking there is no way I can read this whole book in the next 10weeks and actually learn the material. i haven't even started the actual program and trying to tackle this class has greatly discouraged me. However, I'm going to try your tips and see how that works for me! Thanks again for being here and your overall energy..its motivated me to get out of the bed and get some studying in.!!
Love your page Liz! Im taking Adv. Pathophys now, week 5 and im feeling the pressure big time. Thanks for sharing your study tips
Best of luck with the rest of your semester! One day at a time!
You are a blessing! I was literally losing my mind over all the content in front of me and the I saw your video. I’m going to try your method of using the objectives and skipping the other million words. Thank you!!!
I hope it works for ya!
Hi Liz. I am soooooo anticipating taking advanced patho and pharm. I am completing the bridge program, so I am hoping that it isn't going to be a deal breaker for me. I do think that I can get through it. I love your personality and your channel. Thanks!
Wow! Thank you for your suggestions. Listening to Dr C now and waiting for my “patho made ridiculously easy” book to arrive. Thank you!!
Isn't he super quirky and adorable? Hope they help!
Your videos are such a positive perspective on nursing and school. I swear Patho is like getting hit by a train (plus mine is a 10 week course) hearing it will be one of the more difficult or technical classes in the program makes survival so much more reassuring!
Oh gosh 10 weeks is rough. Hang in there!! One day at a time
You are flipping AMAZINGGGGG. I take Pathophysiology next month and I am kind of nervous! So thankful for your guidance!
You can do it!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS. I just started my fall semester and I’m taking patho, foundations of nursing I, and health assessment and I also start clinical and I’m already DYING. This video gave me such peace of mind❣️
I'm so glad! What a course load! You can do this!! One day at a time :)
Um, can I just say you're amazing? I'm first year and I wanted to prepare for patho next semester before even stepping foot in class. Thank you !!!
THANK YOU!!!! I have been searching for a path podcast for the last 6 weeks!
Starting this course next week and so appreciate your advice!
I love this! The objective tip is such a good idea ☺️ just started patho phys and excited to use this method.
Hope your semester goes well!
Oh my! I just started advanced patho this week for my NP program. Yikes! So much information. Thanks for the video. It is helpful.
You can do it! One day at a time with that beast of a class
Thank you so... so... so... I’ll say it one more time, SO much. I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of content i need to absorb for a single exam, watching your video centered me out again and made me feel more calm about everything. Subscribed, hit the notification button, i did it all. Thank you again, so much.
It's a crazy amount of information. but you can do it! One day at a time!
It definitely was one of the toughest subjects in nursing school. I know this video is a big help for many.
This helps. Thanks so much. I am just starting with my core MSN classes and keep getting overwhelmed by the enormity of the whole thing.
You can do it! One day at a time!
You're just awesome!!! My God the way you motivate people is amazing. The moment you said "you will survive this b/c all these nurses & NP's survived it" I'm sold!! I WISH YOU'RE MY PROFESSOR!😗😗😗 Thank you for calming my nerves!
Aww thank you for the encouragement! I'm glad it was helpful
Liz, your video was a breath of fresh air. I'm sure your patients feel that you're a godsend too! I'm starting an undergraduate level of pathophysiology this January and I can't wait to learn! Thanks for all the wonderful tips. I'm hoping to get into Nursing then eventually I'd like to be a Nurse Practitioner. It's a long long road but I'm going to have to take it one day at a time! From the Canadian East Coast, Peace!
Thank you for the encouragement! Enjoy your journey! It’s a great one 🙂
I just started my level 2 Patho class today, thank you for making this video!!
Jill H you’ll do great!
I’m just starting advance pathophysiology for my psych NP program and I so needed this positivity that you’ve provided me. I’ll be checking in for the next 16 weeks for studying tips. Wish me luck.😂😂😂
I was taking patho this summer but had to drop because there was just too much going on and I wasn’t giving it my all. I’m taking it in the fall and I am so nervous. Glad I watched this video
I started looking at patho today and honestly started crying. So glad I found this video it’s a big help❤️
Me too. I applied for NP. IM SCARED ADVANCED PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
I just want to say thank you❤️ I start nursing school in a few weeks and I’m binge watching every nursing school tip video on UA-cam and yours seem to be the most helpful and encouraging!
Aww thank you!! And congrats on your nursing school admission!
Nurse Liz Thank you 😊!
Thank you!!!! Starting advanced patho next week. Favorite podcast, Sleeved and Spiritual
Liz: Thank you so much. I am currently taking Advanced Pathophysiology and am struggling. I attend Frontier Nursing University for my NP degree. Your tips are great and I am going to try them and I LOVE your glasses :)
Nurse LIIZ, you are REAL and RELEVANT, and Positive as we talk about things that can be overwhelming. Thank you for your Encouragement and Passion, and actually helpful advise , with humor and excellence. Keep up the Great Work.........
you are literally saving my life one video at a time. School wouldve steamrolled me if I didnt take this time to plan ahead.
So glad it was helpful!
Professor Fink videos have been really helpful. Thank you sooo much for adding the videos to your site. I am taking Advanced Patho and it’s been a struggle.
You're gonna rock it!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m a mom of 19 month old twins, currently enrolled in college, and taking Patho. I’m so overwhelmed when I got my course schedule. This video will definitely help me!
Momma if you can do twins, you can do patho. You got this!
I've been in my program for one week and I'm totally overwhelmed. Trying to find the podcast with Dr. C and it's been very difficult to retrieve. Thank you for all the helpful tips, though. They really do make a difference!
Thank you very much for your help. This tips are really going to be helpful for me !. Have a blessed day
so glad it was helpful!
No joke, the new edition of this book my class is using is even bigger, because they added at least one chapter! Thanks for this video!
katherynne omggg nooo. Ugh I’m sorry!
It may seem a little excessive, but I absolutely recommend studying over the summer before the class if you can. I started studying for my patho course as soon as I got my study guide and textbook in the mail (I have it next semester so I can't speak about how much it helps yet, but I can't imagine it will hurt), and I imagine this will make the class a little less daunting for at least the first week. It'll give you enough time to get your bearings while they go through the material you pre-studied before you get into the meat of the class. :)
I started a little document on my laptop with all my prep work and a quizlet with new terms, just so I'm not lost when they use them. I totally recommend this approach!
This is helpful thank you!
Liz, thank you so much for alleviating my anxiety over Patho. I dropped this course 2 semesters ago due to the difficult and heavy course load. This is the only course preventing me from moving ahead at the Bachelor's level and it's been stressful to think that I have to prepare to take it again very soon. I too, am a visual learner and do study by speaking aloud in order for me to remember, so thank you for the tip on the Podcast which I have downloaded already and "Picmonic." Thank you.
you got this!! Patho was also such a struggle for me.
Thank-you Liz I am in advanced patho now, this was terrific, thank-you
So glad it was helpful!
Thank you, Liz. I wish I had found this sooner, but I still have 2.5 years of my degree left, so I'm just grateful to the universe I have found you now! You're an angel. 😇
I'm so glad it was helpful!
I love your energy. You made me feel so much better 😃
Thank you Liz. I bombed my first test. I was overwhelmed and confused. I ordered my study guide and I am
So glad that you reassured me that I was not going to read all the content.
Thank you so much. I opened my patho book today and read the first couple of paragraphs and realized I had no idea wtf was going on and wondered if I had made a huge mistake. Until I watched your video. Thanks again.
you got this!
You are such a blessing! Started my FNP program yesterday and Advanced Patho is my first course! I can do this! You are awesome!!
msdanidoll might as well get it over with! You can do it!
How's it coming?
How was it. Im scared
Prof. Fink is one of the best professors! His classes were always filled, so his channel helped me when I couldn't get into his class.
Yes, it is. I study all of his videos during my A&P course and throughout nursing as a refresher! He is amazing and because I am also a visual learner I also view armando hasudungan videos both combine is A+.
OMG...You hit it on the head!!! This class had me doubting myself. Thank you for your valuable advice!!! You're a Godsend
You can do it!! One day at a time
Nurse Liz I did it!!! I got an A thanks to your great advice!!! You talked me down from the ledge...knowing I wasn’t alone in my doubts made all the difference. Thank you 😊
Lourdes Rivera that’s awesome!!! Good work!
I'm starting this class next week and I've watched this video soooo many times. I'm really nervous, but keeping my fingers crossed and will definitely follow your tips. Thanks for sharing!
One day at a time! You got this!
Can i have the link for the podcast please
Giiiiirl, I'm loving your uploads lately! haha thank you so much!!!
Thanks for following along!!
thank you for this video! I start NP school this coming Tuesday, and I'm trying to prepare for patho!
you got this!
Im two weeks in and needed this SO much. thank you thank you thank you!
Came straight to your video for this class!
Taking it day by day!!!!!
I copy and paste my objectives-print them out and then answer them! Yay I'm on the right track
Awesome!!!
Thank you so much for creating this video! I just took my first exam in pathophysiology, and it wasn't good at all. It sounds like you learn a lot like I do, so your recommendations will be perfect for me. I can't download the podcast that you'd recommended for some reason -- I wonder if it has to do with its age. The videos that have been helping me (as of a couple days ago when I discovered them) are by Dr. Greg. My older sister is sending me that book that you'd mentioned. I have never felt so stupid in my life that I do when reading the patho textbook, so I will be changing my study methods for sure. Thanks again!
Patho is definitely a beast. But you can absolutely do it! This was my poorest performing class by far so you are NOT alone. One day at a time, hang in there!
Thanks so much for this! I officially start my AGNP journey at the end of this month! I am taking Patho and a theory class..I’m super nervous but your video made me feel a whole lot better! Thanks!
What an exciting time!! Patho is wild, but you will be completely fine! One day at a time
Nurse Liz thanks so much for the encouragement 😄
Thanks for the recommendations! Just purchased the patho study book you recommended on Amazon for my upcoming patho class! One of my favorite podcasts is the “Earn Your Happy” by Lori Harder 💕
Glad it was helpful! I’ll have to check that one oit
Thank you for this!!!!! I needed it!
Liz! You were in your total groove (Encouraging + Educational + Entertaining) on this one!
I'm not a nurse, but I've got a lot of nurse clients. This vidi helps me understand what they're going through / have gone through in terms of education and STRESS level therein. Thanks much!!
Thank you! You are always so encouraging 🙂
Well, you're always so fabulous!!! :) :) :)
Lol “They’re EVIL and assigned it anyways” The most true statement ever said about Patho
I don’t understand their logic lol
OMG thank you thank you 😭 I’m definitely going to try this! I’m only in week 3 and I’m struggling already! I’m going to try these techniques!!
Patho is evil, but I am sending you all the vibes! I hope this helps!!!
OMG that book and picmonics are life savers. Thanks so much. I have an A- . I can't thank you enough.
You are so welcome!
I feel like your awesome personality also helps you through school.
attitude can definitely impact the outcome!
Thank you Liz. I'm starting Patho next Semester. THANK YOU!!!!
You got this!
Though I’ve taken this class 2 years ago you are SPOT on. And to top it off my professor made us present case studies online in front of the entire class. Fuuuun.
Ohhhh man. That is the worst. So glad its behind you!
Thanks I’ll listen to that patho podcast before nursing school 💖
OMG I love this! I seriously wish I knew about you when I took pathology in 2017 😂... this class made me question why I went back to school! Haha 😆 nonetheless I did survive!!! It would have been nice to split it up but taking NP school online was a different animal for me.... I honestly prefer in class/on campus... but online was just a better choice with a family 🤷🏻♀️.
Thank you so much!!! I needed this
Hi! I love your channel. You mentioned Prof. Fink....I’m in LA and I think you’re talking about a gentleman who teaches at a Los Angeles Community College. He’s amazing! I almost took a class with him but it conflicted with my schedule. But he is so respected and sought after here in LA. If we’re talking about the same guy...what a small world! LOL. Cheers!
Interesting! I don’t remember where he teaches out of but it likely is the same! That would have been so cool to be in one of his classes!
i feel like you went to my school with the same teachers! thank you so much!
the fact that I searched this book and ordered it right before watching this video. lol. glad it's going to be useful.
Your advice was so useful. Thanks
I’m currently in FNP school and started advanced patho this week. I have been feeling very anxious about taking this class because I struggled in undergrad. Watching this video has made me feel SO much better! Definitely using these tips. Thank you Liz!!😘💗
Hi Being Breezy, how did you do??? I start next week and I am sweating! Hope everything went well !
@@SaffyKaffy Hey Sadaf! It wasn’t as bad as undergrad patho. I ended the term with a B & I actually graduate from FNP school this week. Good luck with your class! You’ll do great ☺️
@@beingbreezyy Congrats!! Thank you for the feedback! Best of luck to you!
Oh my goodness! I can't thank you enough for these tips! I just started patho for NP school and had NO CLUE how to manage the info. Your tips about using the objectives as a way to focus was fantastic. I just took my first test (cells, cancer, cell biology, hematology, fluids and electrolytes, and acid-base) and I got 92%!!!!!!!!!!!! You are awesome!
thats amazing!!! way to go!
Thank you for bringing my anxiety levels down. This class has been SO stressful.
you got this!
You video's made me so excited to start Nursing school!!
Aww yay! I’m glad!
Carrrramba! 😂 I’m starting CRNA school soon and I’m taking an unofficial course online to brush up before a hit the advanced patho . Thanks for advice!
I have my first Patho exam this Friday... for my ABSN program. Gah! Thank you for this video!
Fingers crossed for you! That first one is always good to get under your belt so you know what to expect with the next ones.
Got a 72 on my first test, made a 64 and a 66 on my last two. Now im studying for my final. I was so overwhelmed and felt like an idiot because I knew the answers but I completely bombed because I get nervous. Now im trying to find ways study this comprehensive final that I need a 95 on in order to pass the class. This helped a lot and calmed me down.
Hi Liz! I recently found your videos and I am IN LOVE with your content! Omg you are so funny, smart, cute and sweet! I started school two weeks ago. Still no nursing classes but I am one of those people that need to be in control of what they can sooo I started to watch everything nursing-related about 4 months ago.. well, now I really want to start looking into patho but I don't know where to find the podcast you talked about. I learn a lot by listening so I think it can be really helpful for me but I've never listened to a podcast. Help! Xoxo
Hey! I use the app overcast to listen to podcasts, but your phone may have a built in podcast app as well!
Thank you so much for this! I just started NP school and this is one of my classes. I have been thinking of leaving the program because Adv Patho is making me feel like maybe this isn’t for me. Now I feel better, thank you 😀😘
you got this! I think the point of advanced patho is to make you want to drop out lol. at least thats how it was for me
How did it go. I applied for NP. 1st class Advance Pathophysiology. Scared
I am freaking out but your videos have helped me to feel better.. thank you for the advice... I have the path on my amazon cart already lml
you can do this!
I am in a MSN program and was freaking out about how I was gonna pass this class. it starts this month. your advice calmed me down so much. I think I can do this! THANK YOU!
