Hiking Mount Vesuvius in Italy 2022 | The Volcano That Destroyed Pompeii

- We hiked Italy's Mount Vesuvius (Vesuvio), the famous volcano that detroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum. Vesuvius is located only a couple hours from Naples, Italy (Napoli, Italia), so it is a great daytrip and activity to do when visiting. In this travel vlog we take the bus from Ercolano to the Vesuvius National Park. The hike provides excellent views of Naples, Ischia, Capri, and the Sorrentine Peninsula. You also get excellent views into the crater/cone of the volcano, where of course history was made with the eruption the whole world came to know.

I once made it to the car park at the base but the trail was closed. It was pretty disappointing not being able to get to the top. Good to finally see what it's like up there!

Where did you get tickets to visit Vesuvius? Going there in a few weeks so would like to know more about tickets
You need to visit the town of "Ercolano" and you can buy tickets there at the shop called "Vesuvio Express" to reach Vesuvius. Have a great trip!

If I could only do 1 of these 2 things which would you do?
1. Climb Vesuvius
2. Get to visit the Amalfi Coast?
Either way we would still get to do the pompei historic site.
Honestly, Amalfi Coast no contest - it was really cool to climb Vesuvius, but the views on the Amalfi Coast were better and the views inside Vesuvius were great, but I’m sure there are more active volcanoes that are more spectacular to climb in the world

Is it possible to walk from this mountain to Pompey Park?
I don't think so, the walking route on google maps suggests that it takes 3 or 4 hours
Can you get the bottom of the crater? Like hop over that fence and slide down to bottom of the crater?
Haha I would definitely recommend not doing g that for safety and legality reasons

We took the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Ercolano Scavi, and then a bus to the volcano. Hope you still enjoyed the rest of the video :)
