To everyone commenting about the 0-60, please chillllllll. It was wet, California has lots of hills and we also only have 91 octane out here. It did well for the situation and it also helped me find the flaws in the car. It performs well in the dry but it will still have wheel spin despite it being AWD. This was not meant to be some official say in zero to sixty runs, it was simply a random 0-60 test using proper equipment. Hope that didn’t ruin the video for everyone.
Hi Forrest agree, real world conditions and drivers vary vastly. I have seen a video clock this at 5.75s . The major publications have tested it at 5.8/5.9. But honestly a 5-60is more realistic and the strength of this engine is mid range passing without unnecessary downshifts. Really liked it in the Mazda6 and CX5 I test drove recently.
Ppl have this crazy idea that all day everyday, every car runs their rated 0-60 lol I dont think they realize how heat, road conditions, tire PSI, temperature/humidity, etc affect performance on a daily.
I have this car for 3 weeks now and using an app on my phone i did a 6.8s 0-60 with 87 octane on a tarmac with gravel on it. Then i tryed it again with 94 octane, we have that fuel in Canada, on a better surface and i got a 5.9s. The traction is very impressive, even with winter tires on a cold tarmac i did under 6s. 46G Machine gray is a unique quad coat refinishing process. It can be tricky to spray and requires certain nozzle size, fluid delivery and spray pattern from the spray gun. Its very unique as Mazda is the only manufacturer who has a quad coat paint line. Its also going to cost more than your standard bc/cc or tri-coat paint jobs, if you need work done. $34k is like €28k, man I can only dream about cars being this cheap here in Europe… the top specced one here is $49k ( and we don’t even get the awd 2.5 turb, or the 2.5 in general).
I would love to get the hatchback as you said it has a more aggressive look. But the sedan has a very elegant look so you can't be wrong which one you choose of these two, it's all about your personal preference.🏎🏎🏎👍👍👍
Bought my Mazda 3 recently. Wished I waited a bit longer if I'd have known they are releasing turbo version next year. Though, I do love my new Mazda. Also, why 91 considered premium petrol in the US?
First and foremost, I have owned both the sedan and hatchback of this current body style. Do not think I'm trying to deter anybody from either. Both of them were the turbo option and all wheel drive, and please don't let this deter anybody from making any decisions. However, the hatchback is a very firm ride. If you're looking to travel a lot, the cushioning just isn't there in the seats, and will make for a longer trip than you expect. Having the hatch though is a lot more practical for storage compared to the sedan. The sedan though, is a much more comfortable car to be in. Mazda was very generous on the seating comfort compared to the hatchback. Both vehicles are drunk with torque, and an absolute treat to drive. Although they are identical in many ways, they both do ride differently. If you're looking for something more "sport" driven, the hatchback is probably going to be more attractive. I personally like hatchbacks over a sedan every day of the week, but I can't get past the firmness it offers compared to the sedan. The rear suspension is torsion beam, which is kind of outdated on both. Despite the price tag that it offers, Mazda does show its value with what they put together in the 3. I will say that the hatchback feels a bit more spunky compared to the sedan, but highlight on his comment earlier, the sedan just feels more mature. Highly recommend test driving both before making any final decision.
I spent the afternoon looking at the this car. It was loaded. The only thing I did notice was there was no cooling seats. Heated front and rear seats, and heated steering wheel. Camera system on the 360 view is now very crisp. The performance of the car is great. It is a very tight suspension, and the turbo will definitely take off. Not a fan of the white interior, but I could get used to it. My only complaint is the bottom of the doors. It’s just hard plastic and scuffs very easily. I would have expected some kind of better material on the doors. Other than that, I believe I’m going back tomorrow and get the car.
Let’s hear what it sounds like! Sounds quiet until you rev it up, then it sounds like every other over muffled car. The Veloster has some great sound with pops and crackles!!! There’s no way the dealer didn’t know at the time and I was very torn between the 6 and 3 for the turbo engine. So they knew it was a important option I was interested in.... still very happy with the car it’s been amazing but can’t deny the extra power would have definitely been appreciated as I’m coming from a v6 Altima that was way more powerful and equally or more efficient.
I bought a 20 3 hatch in soul red in Sept and no regrets. 6.9 sec isn’t slow. Do I race Mustangs? No. Does my car handle better than a Mustang and is the interior more upscale? Absolutely...
Yep I bought mine in March of 2020. It’s a great car. I love it. I definitely look forward to what else Mazda does in the future. I’m going to start saving my pennies in case they ever release a version of that elegant concept car.
You said adaptive cruise control at 9:49 when you were probably trying to say dual zone climate control😂😂😂😂, anyways good review and gorgeous car!!!!. I'm torn between this and the Mazda 6 signature, the Mazda 3 turbo loses out on wireless Apple carplay and smaller dimensions but gains on newer infotainment system and AWD.
You are a great reviewer! Just curious, do you think that the HatchBack or the Sedan drives/rides/steers/etc.... better, or no difference to you? I will be buying the Premium Hatch just to get the manual regardless, but I just was wondering.
The reason why the transmission lags is to preserve the life of the sealed transmission. The car is designed for economy use and thus lower maintenance cost. Trust me, this transmission is a gold mine actually. My 2015 Mazda 3 has 150,000 and still shifts flawlessly.
Exactly. Best tran out there for the price and reliability. People dont think things through. Often the transmission dies before the engine, mazda peeps knew its important to take care of it by not slamming the gears, but balancing the pressure on the tranny out for longevity. Go Mazda!
Car & Driver got 5.6 sec 0-60 by using traction off, power-braking to 4K RPM, and manual shifting at about 5200 RPM. Revving it higher just runs it out of breath. It's a torquer, not a 2 stroke.

Most honest appraisal of this car so far.
Go Mazda!
A BBS Brembo Recaro package from the miata on the turbo would be such a nice addition to the car
Wonder the power from 95 /98 octane in the UK? 260 is plenty and 330 ft/lb is really good.
Fantastic reviewer! really want the cx-30 turbo.
@Forrest's Auto Review - did you notice in speaker rattle from the rear speakers?
Mazda cx-30 turbo has launch control, im not sure if the Mazda 3 does but its like a 5 secondcar with launch control
Great video. Keep up the good work.
Those cinematics at the start just earned you a subscriber! Wow!
Great review and a car! Actually, waiting for the new GTI 2021 and want to compare and choose.
Mazda lover from india❤
I'm about to buy mazda3 tmr
any advice for the long term ?
I want this car so badly
Me too
The hatchback version is my dream car
Great review! Very informative.
20:40 there's a video of a 3 Turbo doing 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds
ua-cam.com/video/a-OBocvKSI0/v-deo.html
The sedan looks way better!
Hopefully this will land in Australia. How are the brakes? They look a bit small for a car with such performance.
fog lights are integrated on the headlights
I just bought mine, same as this one, Grey, Turbo, White interior, 2023 :) in Mexico cost $28,000 :o
Excellent video! Thank you!
The Mazda3 now reminds me of the original Acura TSX. The TSX was the Euro Accord and a very fun car. It seems like a good time to test drive one.
For that intro I'm subscribing
Great review, car looks awesome. I don't expect it to be like a speed 3 because it is not listed as such.
Well it is as fast as a speed3....... and far more upscale.....
Car & Driver got 5.6 sec 0-60 by using traction off, power-braking to 4K RPM, and manual shifting at about 5200 RPM. Revving it higher just runs it out of breath. It's a torquer, not a 2 stroke.
what a peng tinggg 😍😍😍
Probably just needs better/more performance oriented tires for that power..
Minor pet peeve: the chime when you turn it on. It just gets me the wrong way.
That's because the driver didn't have his seatbelt on.
I just wish the hatchback version would be a little bit wider, like the Elantra Hatch. But still debating between the 2022 Kona or the Mazda 3 Hatch.
Funny....that color is called Matrix Grey in Germany and you only get the 2L 180PS version as the only choice now.
Hi. Thanks for this great review. Just a question what is premium in the USA? In Australia our normal fuel is 91 Octane, Premium is 95, 98 or a 105(E85) Octane?
87 reg. -89 mid, -91prem.
10% ethanol added
@@brendancarlson1678 Where I live (NY) it’s 87 / 89 / 93. I wonder why it varies so much across the US
Surprise night review? Noice!
i think its a decent price considering what other premium cars would cost
Which is better the Mazda 3 sedan or the Mazda 3 hatch?
dude in the right tred to catch you on that green light man got smoked
Just needs ventilated seats and ac in the rear and I'd buy it in Florida!
*New sub my man. Keep up the awesome vid's*
Love the car but not all the turbo models should have black wheels .
