Former Nike Designer Demo: How To Draw A Shoe From An Underside Perspective

- I've gotten a lot of people asking me to make a video on how I draw this particular view of a sneaker. I draw it so much some people call it the "DiTullo" view! It is a really fun and dynamic way to show a footwear concept sketch, but it is a bit tricky. Watch and sketch along to see how I do it!

Enjoyed sketching along to this :)
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for checking it out!
Great watch-along! Molded outsoles are always a fun opportunity to really carve out form and play.
Thanks for checking it out, Ray! Footwear tooling is so fun to design in my opinion!
Great Sketch Michael!
Thanks for checking it out! The design was just done on the fly to demonstrate the perspective but it turned out pretty ok!

Thanks for checking out the video!
Please do more of these video tutorials with sneakers.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks for checking it out! I try to get as many out there as I can!
@@MichaelDiTullo Maybe you have ready-made video lessons for existing video tutorials with sneakers, I just saw on your channel, there are many videos, but not as many as I would like, I want to see even more practical lessons in different types there 3/4 in profile, top view, full face and in different materials?
@@maximus31 you might like to check this one out on footwear anatomy: ua-cam.com/users/liveVvZMikDLBRg?si=JStLvlJ2vqwOyc85
Question. I’m an IND student and my instructors emphasize ideation sketches before getting into a final concept. I want to design a shoe for my class this semester and I’m curious about your process. When it comes to ideation sketches for shoes design are you doing sketches like these? Or are you sketching with less detail and taking less time on sketches so you can get more ideas on paper? Or do you have a different process to formulating ideas? Hope that makes sense
Love the video btw
Thanks for checking out the video. I hope it was helpful. Typically I would do 3-4 pages of thumbnail sketches, and the maybe a dozen or so sketches like this of different design directions showing multiple views (outsole, lateral, toe down, perspectives like this) before down selecting 1 or 2 designs to really refine in adobe illustrator and photoshop. You might find this video helpful as it shows a typical concept page. Again I might do a dozen + of these for a project: ua-cam.com/users/liveVvZMikDLBRg?si=k3DfGckPq_bH8IZa
