    This is fantastic to hear! I had no idea how many functions were “included” with sergers. I bout a used Janome 634D for fifty bucks from the local sewing store I bought my Viking SM from…it’s been sitting for 6 months untouched because I had “fear” of the entire threading process and “knives”… I finally sat down, followed the diagram on the machine and got it threaded. No big deal! I was off and running and haven’t looked back. I am astonished how much time it saves just with the seam finishing and trimming the excess…that alone is a huge time saver and certainly improves the look of my completed garment. I can’t wait to try gathers and ruffles. Thank you so much for sharing the many things these little machines can do.

    Thanks for this video. I do not have a serger yet, but even though you're reviewing 2 specific machines, you actually provided general information. I have watched other "informational" videos that just pushed for one brand of machines and did not give me any general knowledge about sergers. If I were local to you, I would buy from you. I feel honesty in your voice, not just trying to sell one brand.

    You make it SO easy. I’m having my first overlocking lesson tomorrow! A tad nervous, but hopefully I’ll master it. Kathy from Cambridge UK. 👍

    Thank you so much for this. I was absolutely dreading learning how to thread the machine as I’ve heard so many nightmares about serger threading, but you made it very easy. Smooth sailing all around!

    Hi very helpful, I've had the Elna 664 Pro for a few years and have only used one stitch, after watching your demo I have tried a few more stitches, thank you

    noob question, but will a serger do the basic stitching that a non-serger sewing machine does? in other words: if i own a serger, will i still need (or want) a "conventional" sewing machine?

    • @SuperStitchSewing
      @SuperStitchSewing  Місяць тому +1

      While you can do a lot on the serger, it doesn't replace a sewing machine that you would still need for basic sewing applications. Think of it as having a microwave, but still needing a stove and oven.

    Just a quick question:
    Do u need to unthread the upper looper to use it as a three thread Overlocker or do you keep 4 threads on and overlock as a single layer as opposed to 4 thread which stitches two layers together?

    • @SuperStitchSewing
      @SuperStitchSewing  Рік тому

      There are several threading options depending on the technique. You can stitch with 2 needles and 2 loopers, 1 needle and 2 loopers(eg. rolled hem), 1 needle and 1 looper(using the spreader on the upper looper), or 2 needles and 1 looper (wrapped overedge). The great thing about the 664P is that you select the technique and the reference guide will let you know what needs threaded.

    Most of this video is how yo use not why you need. i don’t sew fashion but im guessing these stitches are best for today’s stretchy fabrics. Maybe i missed that st the beginning

    Imagine a thread jam in this.....giving me nightmares even thinking about this....I can't manage the single needle in my sewing machine.....this is serious rocket science

    It would help if you explained what a 'looper' is !! Also at 4.16 you talk about lowering the upper blade, then at 4.37 you talk about lifting the 'lower blade' back up again, which actually is the same blade !!! no wonder people get confused !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Sorry for the confusion. I'll see if I can edit it.

      Hi, Anne- will you be doing any further videos exploring what a serger can do? I have an Elna 664Pro- which I decided to buy after watching this video! Thanks for all the helpful information!
