      Glad to have been of help. Technique is in a few of my pastry videos. I did this one all by hand. ( no mixer used at any point )

    If you substitute the water and vinegar with ice cold vodka the crust will come out flaky like you have NEVER seen before. Why did you buy mincemeat filling?

      ha ! I've heard that combo before and know it works well ! Why ? ... why not. It's the best. I couldn't make it that good. Thanks so much for watching ! 😊

      @@BakeLikeAPro Was just wondering. My granny always made the mincemeat. She used lamb in it. It's what they had on hand. She used pork a few times. They had a hog farm in Indiana.

      @@CombatDoc54 Looking at some of the comments, I should have gone into a bit of detail on what was in the jar...... there is NO meat in this minced meat, in fact, I've never seen a jar with actual meat. In the U.K. suet ( animal fat ) can be added and is a popular ingredient. My jar says it doesn't contain suet. In my jar it's a variety of candied fruits and also nuts, and that's it. The name is indeed confusing for sure.

      @CombatDoc54 5 місяців тому

      @@BakeLikeAPro Maybe it's that particular brand. IDK. Granny's recipe called for meat and meat suet. The already made boxes that I buy have ground beef in therm. I just thought of something, maybe what you purchase is vegetarian style. That's an idea maybe.

    What the heck was in the jar? I know it said "mincedmeat" but, what is that? Seriously.

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  5 місяців тому +1

      I should have gone through the ingredients. "Minced meat" doesn't actually contain any meat, it's a bunch of different candied fruits and nuts, all combined in a jam like sauce. I can't explain what it tastes like. Very popular in the U.K. and Canada, but not very popular in the United States for example. It's a staple during the Christmas holidays for people in these areas.

      @@BakeLikeAPro Thank you so much. I just wasn't sure if it was actual meat or, like what you described. Great videos.

      The history of mincemeat is really cool. It started out as mostly meat, but as the sugar, spices, and candied fruit became more affordable, people used more of the expensive ingredients as kind of a strange flex ie, "look how luxurious we are, our mincemeat is mostly candied fruit!" and over hundreds of years, the meat in the recipe kind of fell away.
      Some mincemeat recipes still call for beef suet and even a few call for a bit of actual meat, but lots, like the brand used here, are all plant based now. If you have strong feelings about meat or even just eating meat in your desserts, it's always good to check the labels. :)
