Thank you for spotlighting this rarely seen film. I played 'Slasher' in this film; yeah, that's me on the cover (with only one of my baby blues poking through)! Boy, do I have stories to tell!! I'm doing a Q&A in LA on 12/04/23, so I can't wait to meet the fans of this one!
"She's channeling Corey Feldman from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" - The guy who played Steven in this movie also appeared in Final Chapter! Ha! I love it!
+GoodBadFlicks I know, it sounds like an opening to a video game than a horror movie. And word of advice to the director, they could've just waited until they had more money.
Between that guy eating the hoagie, and the two brothers eating brie sandwiches sideways in Twin Peaks, it seems pretty clear that aliens were among us, or at least among our acting community. We’ve probably scared them off.
Absolutely. You can make a job out of it. If it was your job to watch every movie made in the 1980's from January 1st 1980 to December 31st 1989 at a rate of 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would probably take you at least a freaking year to watch them all
The amount of geek culture references shown in the movie review are astounding. C3POs, Natalie's USCSS Nostromo hat, the Mt. Bill shirt, the movie poster for Dragonslayer, and the one dude at the high school dance dressed up as D.C. Comics Mr. Miracle. I'm sure there are probably even more in the movie itself. That alone makes me want to see it.
This was the very first movie I saw at the cinema with my HS sweetheart, who later became my wife. People in the audience hated it, but I loved it, flaws and all. I could see that there were major production problems from the get go.
I just discovered this channel, and I love it! Currently spending hours of my life going through videos. Also, yes I have a seen a movie poster that made me say "I need to see this." That movie was the Battery.
Me and my friend Ryan watched this! We couldn't decide how old Paula was supposed to be, all we could see was a short, confused women. We also came up with a story about the Maniac that keeps driving the train: He took the name Shavez and soon realized his true calling was as a train conductor, killing was something he only got into cause all of his Manic friends did it. He got a steady conductor job working the subways, which was a perfect fit since it kept him from getting wet and didn't frighten small children while walking the streets. Shavez was the perfect employee he never complained and was never late to work so management didn't mind him living in the subways. One day, while taking his daily walks before shift, he saw a fight break out near the tracks amongst some hooligans and in the scuffle noticed a small girl get pushed onto the tracks below. Shavez knew there was no time to waste, he could hear the 503 pulling in and acted quickly jumping onto the tracks below and seizing up the little girl moments before the train came to a screeching halt. From then on Shavez was hailed a hero and his life changed forever. Little children no longer ran from him in fear, people brought him treat and gifts daily, women began to throw themselves upon, and management wished to promote him and give him "GoldRails" medal of honor. Shavez was ever grateful, but he was a humble Maniac and wished to keep his job as a simple conductor, he did however find love in blonde haired veterinarian named Susan. Shavez and Susan shared a happy life, going on tunnel dates and healing rats, and other little creatures, found in the subway. One day Susan even got Shavez to come to the surface and it was a wonderful experience for both of them. Their love blossomed and soon Susan found she was pregnant with a mini Manic hybrid and Shavez proposed with the help of all his subways system buddies. One fateful day though while Shavez was out buying roast beef, he was walking home and was hit by a stray stream of water from some kids playing with water guns. Shavez was buried in the tunnels and remembered as the true hero he was.
I would love to make a sequel for this if I could the neon Maniacs could have been a lot better had companies not drop the project but it's a cool and unique cheesy movie from the 80s and that's the way I like them anybody noticed that the ax killer look like Frankenberry
thank you for doing this for you I've been looking for this movie for the longest it's one of those childhood movies that you watch when was on USA up all night. Now I have seen all my old horror movies as a kid that uses scared the s*** out of me thank you
Great video as usual Cecil. It’s one of those videos that makes me go: “wow I’m gonna research the crap out of this movie and watch it multiple times.” And something tells me that’s why you do it...and for a few cheap laughs lol
Looks so awesome! It's kind of a metaphor of our childhood. :/ A bunch of cool stuff crammed together, that makes no sense, but still some how worked out. then the end just sort of happens abruptly. :(
Wow, Just WOW! This movie looks so good, I'm totally going to buy this on DVD! Also did anyone realize that one of the Maniacs looks like Chatterer II from Hellraiser 2????
I remember always seeing the VHS at the store but back then didn't wanna take a chance on This movie but now I see this and wish I checked it out . . . classic 80s horror campy at it's best !
“Ever see the poster for a movie and know that you just had to see it?” Definitely. Telefon with Charles Bronson. Good Guys Wear Black with Chuck Norris. Go Tell The Spartans with Burt Lancaster. Not the greatest movies, but some of my all-time favorite movie posters.
Glad to see this movie get some appreciation. It's very flawed but entertaining. I especially love when one of the maniacs drives a motorcycle through the school. And Paula, the horror geek girl, is a great character. This is a perfect example of a movie dying for a remake. It was flawed the first time out, and has untapped potential a fully realized version could bring out.
This film needs to be remade with a reasonable budget, practical affects, and backstories for the characters explaining how they bacame ceniobite/demon things!!!!....
But in a REMAKE those tittle creatures would just be shitty COMPUTER ANIMATIONS instead of those awesome make ups. The females probably wouldn't be as good looking either - in a contemporary remake they'd probably be these hideous porkers to make it "politically correct'. So then NO, it wouldn't be worth it. Leave it like it is I say.
the thing I love about your channel is that I never know what flick you will spotlight next.....Neon Maniacs?!, I haven't even thought of that one in the last 20 plus years!!!
This movie is truly amazing and I really wish they didn't have those budget issues and could have actually finished one of the coolest horror flicks of the 80s. Also it has the greatest intro of any horror film... Keeps you off your guard for a bit.
PB Max? Those were so good! Aw, now I'm sad I can't get any now. I demand we get those and Nestle's Alpine white chocolate back! Anywho, awesome videos you got there.

Also,` for recommendations for future reviews, KING KONG'76, and the rather controversial PREDATOR 2 which seems to divide the fans.
I actually saw the trailer at the movies when I was a kid. I was blown away by it. When the movie came out it suddenly disappeared from the theater before I could see it. Then I saw it on cable and recorded it on the VCR. And you know my reaction was the same as everyone else. It made no sense but it was still kinda cool though. Years later it started making a come back thanks to the internet. And the story behind why its such a mess. The last time I watched it I did a lot of fast forwarding.
Yay! Haha, one of my favorite weird 80s movies. I like the piece of synth music that plays in the raining blood dream scene, I liked the chase and escape on a bus scene too.
Mister Miracle costume at 5:33. Never saw him outside a DC comic book or cartoon. That's a first that should also be pointed out, especially considering everyone goes for the usual (like the Spider Man costume a second before).
The part where the police took the kids bike was funny, and it really happened to me when i was a kid. I grew up in a small, small town. Long story short, the Chief of Police was driving by one day and saw me and my friends out playing and stopped to talk to us. We were all about 8 or 9 years old. Randomly, he thought it would be funny to handcuff me to my neighbors front railing and take off on my bicycle riding up and down the street. It was harmless fun and part of his usual antics. Nowadays if something like that happened the kid would going crying to mommy and she'd hire a lawyer to file a law suit.
Love this movie, saw it once when I was a kid, and it haunted me until I finally bought it... yeah my imagination of what I thought the movie was, was far better. Still, it was great to see Mister Miracle.
Great video man. I loved this movie as a kid. It's even funnier as an adult. And to think that all the plots were there because of production hell. I thought the writers were just screwing with my brain. Kept thinking, where the hell do these creatures come from? Btw, love the Village People meets the Cenobites comment.
5:32 LONG before "cosplay" was a thing, there was some nerdy kid who dressed up as Mister Miracle form DC comics at a high school dance in the 80s! That's awesome! LOL
10:21talk about running out of money; the police officers are clearly holding children's toys. The one guy is holding a tiny tommy gun as if it's a pistol...
Hilarious deconstruction of this schlock masterpiece. Thanks for posting. And where's Donna Locke today? She was endearing here as the nerdy girl heroine Paula. Seems this was here one & only screen credit - too bad. I'd like to have seen more of her.
Props to the guy who went to the dance dressed as Mr. Miracle.

@VunirAbAnzr Cool! Thanks for the backstory. Can you guys bring back Neon Maniacs in an official video game? It'll be so freakin' awesome!
03:46, the girl is wearing a hat with the Patch for the USS Nostromo from Alien.

setting up shop next to a river to them must be as badass as setting up a lair in a volcano is to us
"When I think NEON MANIACS, I'm not thinking smooth jazz." lol that's a classic line.
+MrDman21 :)
+GoodBadFlicks I know, it sounds like an opening to a video game than a horror movie. And word of advice to the director, they could've just waited until they had more money.
Well I don't think THAT was so bad. I wouldn't knock the movie for going against the grain a little and doing something different.and unpredictable.
Sounds more like some low-budget Tangerine Dream / John Carpenter to me than jazz. :)
Your commentaries are hilariously random.
“Who eats a hoagie like this?!”
“C3po?! Nice.”
Between that guy eating the hoagie, and the two brothers eating brie sandwiches sideways in Twin Peaks, it seems pretty clear that aliens were among us, or at least among our acting community. We’ve probably scared them off.
When you think you have seen every 80's film, GoodBadFlicks tells you you are wrong.
I just came to this realization last night after watching hours of good bad flicks.
Absolutely. You can make a job out of it. If it was your job to watch every movie made in the 1980's from January 1st 1980 to December 31st 1989 at a rate of 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, it would probably take you at least a freaking year to watch them all
Damn rights. I come here to find the next piece of hot trash I can watch with my girl. We love terrible movies, and these always entertain

"The police find her and take her bike..." hahahahahaha

The fact that you did Neon Maniacs makes me very happy. This was a watch over and over staple for me in the 80s. Thanks man .

The Rita Repulsa joke was perfect🤣 and I always giggle when you do your girl voice😄
Thanks!
5:33- Everyone's talking about the maniacs, I'm noticing that awesome Mister Miracle costume.
A store-bought costume or custom-made?
+SartoriusSeven Probably store bought, but I always enjoy seeing a costume that isn't just the usual Batman/Superman/Spider-man.
+TheWritrzblok Me too. :)
Aw, dude, sick! Thanks for pointing that out
This was the very first movie I saw at the cinema with my HS sweetheart, who later became my wife. People in the audience hated it, but I loved it, flaws and all. I could see that there were major production problems from the get go.
Cracking movie. So broken, yet manages to work. I would love to read the original script to fill in the gaps.
Neon Maniacs- surprisingly a good title for a smooth jazz song.
Wow! Nobody I've ever talked to about movies has ever heard of this, I was beginning to think I'd imagined watching it.
its kind of my area of expertise lol
I just discovered this channel, and I love it! Currently spending hours of my life going through videos. Also, yes I have a seen a movie poster that made me say "I need to see this." That movie was the Battery.

lol love the way the "teens" all look about 26.
Dude your videos are great, it's a crime you don't get more views or subs. Keep them coming!
Thank you!
+GoodBadFlicks have you done a The Brood review ! that's a classic underated, cronenberg movie
+GoodBadFlicks Can you do the Wes Craven classic Shocker
Oh man Paula is absolutely perfect, I think I'm in love.
9:48 cause she is hot
10:02 -Steve “cause she is hot?”
This needs a good remake!!!
PB Max was my favorite candy bar! No one I bring it with remembers it. They were so good, and I'm glad you remember them.
I can't believe the movie just ends like that.
Would have been great if they did a sequel to explain more about the maniacs.
I would love to write that sequel.
Edward's Realm how would you write the sequel?

Perfect description: Cross between "Cenobites" and "The Village People"!
4:32 So this is where M Night Shamalayn came up with the plot twist for Signs.
"Why are they serving beer at a high school dance?"
Because all of the extras are clearly over 21!
I really want the "get the hell out of there while your still alive" noise to be a thing.
*Demonic shreek* horror cast: What was That? Me: The run if you want to live alarm.

I thought I knew indie movies till I discovered GBF so many I've not even heard. New favourite youtuber.
Wow, Just WOW! This movie looks so good, I'm totally going to buy this on DVD! Also did anyone realize that one of the Maniacs looks like Chatterer II from Hellraiser 2????
"Instead of terror, I think they both found love! Plays romantic music! " I'm dying here!!!!
I fucking LOVE the Slayer reference XD
You, my friend, have earned a sub!
Thank you!
I like how one of the characters was wearing a replica of the Nostromo cap from "Alien." It's a nice touch.
The girl with sideway cap was cute tho
The way that chick is wearing her hat is AWESOME!
Nostromo hat at 3:44!
It would be nice to see a Scream Factory blu-ray release of this at some point, as unlikely as that seems.
at 10:21 I love how the cops just seemed to have grabbed whatever prop gun they took a liking to.
If i didn't know any better i would have thought it was a Troma release.
Can't believe I've never heard of this. It looks like a fun watch.
You have brought me alot of smiles and enjoyment with your channel. Thank you.
You are welcome! :)
I love that theme music. So much fusion emotion within :30

Definitely. Telefon with Charles Bronson. Good Guys Wear Black with Chuck Norris. Go Tell The Spartans with Burt Lancaster. Not the greatest movies, but some of my all-time favorite movie posters.
Say what you will about Paula's hat wearing skills, but that souvenir jacket she wears is fresh as hell.

The best part was when they killed the train conductor. Cracked me up 😂😂😂
10:24 the cop on the left opening the door is sporting a child's toy Tommy Gun. Too funny!
"i dont recognize Any of these pokemon.." hahahahaha so funny
watched when i was 6 and have all always found time to watch it again. beast of a film
Has nobody else mentioned the rad USS NOSTROMO hat??? Pretty sweet Alien product placement.
I wish the '80s created at least one more film from this creation this was made for the '80s possibly very early '90s
This film needs to be remade with a reasonable budget, practical affects, and backstories for the characters explaining how they bacame ceniobite/demon things!!!!....
Wow. Amazing 80s visual here!!! So sad it was not properly finished and lot of things remains unexplained. Would love to here some backstory.
I feel like when movies go through production problems like this, THATS when you do a remake.
This would make a great movie to remake. As long as they stay with practical effects for the alien village people. It could be an all-time Classic.
@@ianfindly3257 You sound like a snowflake who has divorced himself from reality

Also it has the greatest intro of any horror film... Keeps you off your guard for a bit.
5:20 Steve was wearing a Mr Bill shirt. It was a series of sketches on SNL back in the early 90s or so.
1:52 - that sound you make when you hit writers block. Also, the pool turned into Arrgretsuko mode
She's wearing a crew hat from Alien, it says Nostromo.
Many references to the Mr. Miracle costume, but no one noticed that cool Chewbaca trying to scare the Neon Maniac? LOL
