*Caracal shows no interest in laser* Serval: What's that? Caracal: Eh, some lame human thing. Serval: Imma chase it! Caracal: Hey now, back off this is mine.
I’ve seen the recommendation (for laser lights being used with domestic cats) that you finish the ‘hunt’ with the dot disappearing on some kind of treat or toy so there is a sense of satisfaction and conclusion for the cats. That way the light is not just a source of unresolved frustration. If you decide to incorporate this into the enrichment for some of the cats, perhaps consider ways of doing this. :)
Good. Yes, and also if the dot is moving endlessly it doesn’t always get/ keep the feline’s attention. Stopping sometimes and building suspense seems to work more because it lets the felines get stalking and ready to pounce as opposed to wanting to just chase 100% of the time.

It always stuns me how similar the mannerisms of big cats and wolves are to the housecats and dogs I've owned. From the black leopard pouncing and then immediately playing it cool by licking herself to Shakira the wolf wagging her tail slightly in interest, it really reminds you that every pet has a wild ancestor, and that the distinction between humans and other animals is a fairly new one.
@@LoverOfManyArts domestic cats are more related to small North African wildcats, which basically look almost identical to domestic cats but with camo patterns n shit
Dogs and Humans both influenced each others evolution, finding fluffy things cute is actually a trait we picked up thousands of years ago to make bonds between the two species easier
I can kinda see why, cheetahs are mostly friendly towards humans due to the fact that we don't match the characteristics of their prey at all, but goats don't really give a shit and they are known to sometimes charge people. They don't injure badly most of the time but they can have an attitude.
I believe the reason the tiger hates him is he is a male ,tigers especially male are very territorial and he feels threaten about his territor being taken from him
I think its more of a testosterone fueled aggression, testosterone seems to cause aggression and in such a massive animal the testosterone levels are way higher, that and I'm sure he just wants to fuck something up, been in captivity for maybe its whole life, killing is in cats DNA...

seeing how fast those servals and caracals run and how much energy they have makes me realize all the more how incredibly ridiculous it is that people seek them out as house pets
Yup. People bred Africa Wild Cats to make house cats. I believe other species in the Middle East became domesticated by living amongst humans to become other breeds of house cats.
Caracals and servals actually "caught" the light many times over and over again. If this was actual prey, they'd be eating it. They truly are amazing animals, seriously.
that's the whole concept of playing with them with laser pointers, they register it in their minds that they caught the prey, but they can still see it moving, uncaught, so they go at it again and again not understanding what's going on, it's a challenge and they won't back down from it. this whole silly chase is fun and excercise for them, and it's fun and cute for us humans too because we like the felines for some reason lol.

The goat is mean... the cheetah are not.
I can kinda see why, cheetahs are mostly friendly towards humans due to the fact that we don't match the characteristics of their prey at all, but goats don't really give a shit and they are known to sometimes charge people. They don't injure badly most of the time but they can have an attitude.
