    combine it with -5V injector and that's it! also it will be best when combined with Roland MIF-IPC interface card. multiple devices in one ISA slot. IDE interface may be taken by using appropriate sound card.

    I don't always want to use a NIC, or may need to put another ROM in the NIC, so this will be very handy in those cases. Thanks for sharing!

    I think the general point of the more expensive cards is to add XT-IDE capability to XT class machines, albeit with much larger, actual IDE drives. XT-IDE isn't IDE, it's an 8-bit version of the standard that existed back in the day and used special drives, hence why those cards are 8-bit and why you had those solutions with using a networking card to add an option rom to augment the IDE ports already on the motherboard hooked up to the system bus. Of course this solution aims to improve on that, just saying this here because it didn't come across in what you said.

    In my country is very expensive to import electronics and sometimes they will just steal them at customs or send them back. I'm looking for an XT-IDE that I can build with stuff that is easier to find, such as an Arduino UNO with an SD shield. can someone give me a tip in this regard?

    Compaq Deskpro/Prolinea... 433? 425? Wish I kept more then 1, one I have the motherboard is toast. Kinda sad machines, due to having no cpu cache. Upside decent video built in. One these days I'll try to find a working motherboard so I can make the saddest 486 possible. I have a 486 SX/2 66 I love to throw in one. As for that romcard, I have one of those also! Made by Peasons before he had his own website. The one question I have is, will these support a disk on a chip flash chips?

    I really need to get an old something-86 machine to play with. One day I'll find one that isn't an insane amount of dollarbucks.

      If you keep your eye out they can be relatively cheep. 486's seem to be the sweet spot although even pentium 4 machines (which are often $5) can do a lot of dos stuff well.

    I recently ordered the exact IDE to SD storage adapter linked in the description. I'm going to be putting it in a Pentium 133 system. I'm not clear on what this XT-IDE board does. Is it mostly useful for the older computers you discuss in the video? I notice you turned off the HDD in the 486's BIOS. But the system's BIOS recognizes the SD card as a hard drive, you could just configure it there, right? Thanks!

      Yeah if a system already has an IDE controller onboard, this is only really useful to unlock higher storage capacity support. I find XT-IDE to be a lot more useful in XT/AT systems where IDE isn't present. For newer computers like the Pentium you're running, a regular IDE to SD card adapter works wonders, and I use them a lot.

      This video touches on one of the main benefits - noise reduction - I’m looking forward to. All the ambient noise is not one of the things I am nostalgic for. I have an iMac G3 that a previous owner put a similar HDD conversion on (I think the Macs still used SCSI at the time though) and it is indeed amazing - the G3 didn’t have active cooling so without a hard drive it’s a fully solid state computer !

      You (usually) can't just configure it even if the bios lets you put the numbers in. When you try to boot, the hard drives will fail. Depending on the age of the computer, most bios' had limitations addressing any drive larger than 40mb, 500ish mb or 2 gig
      The xtide bios lets you not mess with the actual drive parameters in the bios. It handles all that for you.
      The other use for the "full" xt-ide boards is for 8 bit and early computers that didn't have hard drive controllers at all.

    Your VLB controller looks like it did support an onboard ROM. The 8 bit XTIDE is more intended to support IDE on systems that had no IDE support, I use them for bench testing later systems before adding other storage controllers..

      Yeah, although I've still had issues getting systems to recognize those option roms. They often need software and undocumented jumpers to get them to work. This one just works when you pop it in. I should have checked though.

      I buy them from Aliexpress/Ebay and just expect about 5-10% to not work. Lately they've all been working though. I also noticed that if some don't work, I program them as the brand name "Fairchild" and for some reason they do. It's weird. I didn't dig in but I'm guessing slightly higher voltage or something along those lines.

    Quick question, you are using 32k ROM's (27C56) how are you dealing with the size of the ROM? Are you Quad writing the ROM (duplicating the rom 4 times) or are you writing zeros for the empty space. I know on the regular XT-IDE Lites you have to Quad out the ROM, but this device is so simple it might not need it.

      I don't pad them. I'm trying to remember if I have my xgecu software set to do it automatically. I usually have to pad them when I'm building things like video game cartridges but I just burn the 12K ROM on pretty much any size eeprom > 8k and send it with these.

    Seems ok, but it's not a universal replacement. it doesn't help motherboards that don't have IDE ports, which includes 8088 and 80286 systems. So it seems like a good solution for those that have IDE, with that caveat I'm on board.

      You're absolutely right. My problem was that I was "wasting" the more expensive XT-IDE boards on systems that didn't need them

    I have that same BIOS - I can put up to 540 Mb, it will let you set the CHS values.

      Unfortunately even if I do that, I still can't boot to things like my disk on modules and other things like that without the bios.

      @@AnotherMaker Some PhoenixBIOS actually do have autodetect - Anything over a gig will show the wrong size but it does actually work. AMIBIOS for LYFE!!

    If you build your own XTIDE it actually costs about 5 bucks total including PCB and parts. Some years ago I re-designed the XTIDE and made my own board that can mount a 2.5" HDD.... yes it's a Hard Card. I tested it with XT, 286, 386 and 486 and it works very well. Plus it looks super cool. I'm in the middle of adding a RAM expansion (+128kB, for use with an unexpanded 512kB XT) onto the same board but I could let you have one of my standard Hard Card prototypes if you are interested ^_^

Not sure it's $5 at today's prices and easily 5 to 10x the soldering. I love them though and they're great in machines that need 8 bit or don't work with the bios alone.

      I am definitely interested! Would be really cool to have the drive mounted to the board. I assume it would also work with a 2.5' IDE to CF or SD adapter?

    1:04 - that's all I do - ATiDE I bought the chip from eBay (Polish seller) and it did work.
