It's a hornet. If you're talking about that gray papery thing, that's a hornets' nest. They can get huge. I know this is an old video, but it's been a long time since I've seen a hornet. The last time I saw evidence of hornets was when my husband and I were visiting his mother in NJ and that was in 2011, November. The nest was huge, but there were no hornets around because it was cold up there at that time.

Damn it Luke, Anaphylaxis is nothing to joke around about. I know from both being an E.M.T. and from my own personal experience. I hope all went well.
Other than that. Good video and it looked like you two enjoyed yourselves.
How many miles was the hike by the way?
I'm about ready to do a review on my Water Bladder System. We have put maybe 50 miles on it over ten different hikes under some nasty conditions. (Mainly high heat.)

Can´t you get an another Epipen if the adrenaline from one isn´t enough? Not good if you´re out somewhere in the backwoods alone and get anaphylaxis. I´m sure you know that though. Just wondering here...

Glad you carry the EpiPen , have you ever considered carrying Benadryl or other antihistamine? I know people are reluctant to call 911 at times and being in the woods may increase there response time, so carrying a antihistamine helps battle the allergic reaction on 2 fronts when used with your Epipen. Just my 2 cents worth. Love the videos Luke and Susan

As always love the videos! I just wanted to take a min and say that I found your channel about a year ago and I've ate a lot of data; but I believe I have watched most of what you've done. I can say that 50000 subscribers is just testament to the love and effort, you put in to your channel. Congrats my friend I hope all is well after your bee stings. Take care on the trail!

Wow!!! I hope you recover from those bee stings luke. I was attacked by a swarm of pissed off bees on a local trail 3 months ago. Terrifying experience... The noise of the swarm is unreal. My heart was pounding through my chest... Talk about adrenaline rush. I ran for a little bit as they stung/bit at the back of my neck.

I agree, that is what's a review is about, as you say, honest review. Still that is your opinion an not necessary the viewers. :-)
I think the companies have a chance to approve if there is something that is not good. :-)
At least they might get an idea for a new improved product.

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut 9 років тому +1

+TheAnnoyingThingOutdoors Even if something isn't good as long as they're selling that model the reviews should still be honest. The one we can question about any review though is did the company go through a stock of 100 items and send the reviewers the best item? Hard to tell. At least Luke and Susan are honest folk so we can still take what they tell us.

    • @TheAnnoyingThingOutdoors1

Yes. that is what I mean, they get a chance to see what's wrong with it so they can make it better. Hiding it won't help them, it will only give them more unhappy costumers.
I hope Luke and Susan will stick to their honesty (and they will.) :-)

Luke, Susie, thumbs up for both of you guys. You're making honest reviews, not sales pitches. That's honorable integrity that shows your strength of character!
Speaking of reviews, have you guys thought of having the kids (or at least Lukibear) try out some of the gear you guys get, so you can have more opinions on the matter? It's always better to try and tackle something from various angles, even because the third party might pick up on stuff you overlooked.

I hope you are ok. I'm sure you made it and I hope your family are well and happy. I re watched your preview of the Mountain hardware Hunker 1 tent. Have you used it yet? I plan on buying one. 4lbs is super for a 4 season tent. If the Seals use it that's good enough for me. I'd buy yours if you don't need it.

Its always a pleasure watching your videos. Prior to buy a gear, I do watch your video channel for the recommendation and that's what separates your channel from others; therefore, keep doing what you best do-- TESTING👍. I always carry an epinephrine pen for anaphylactic shock. Do you have one?

Luke, a compression band? Torn rotor cuff??You have a nice good wife and kids, quit trying to break your self! My sons girlfriend just had rotor cuff surgery - under the chain saw and jackhammer for over 8 hours! (U.G.H.!! and OWDTCH!!!) DO try to AVOID it if possible!! 3 months later she still don't have full motion or strength back. PT 2X a week... $$$... May never get full recovery... Trouble with you kids these daze is you don't think you are playing hard enuf if you don't keep breaking yourselves.I yoosta work with a guy who broke his knee at the company picnic playing volleyball one year and his elbow the next doing something else... The company told him to cool it the following year... About your age... Is it something with your generation? Nice hike. Keep a can of yard guard along with bear spray. You hit them with it and they tend to leave. Fine, they can die somewhere else. Ask your doc if you need more anti venom along if stung multiple times. Good thing you were near the car when that happened! Hard to land a chopper in the woods for a medevac...Take care and keep up the good work. Thanks for the honesty on your reviews.Iam N.

Holy cow man! Hope you don't swell up to badly. Honey bee's I'm ok with but wasps and hornets and ants I've had my fill of. I got hit by a swarm of yellow jackets while painting a house 3 stories up on a ladder. Now I carry an electric swatter and kind of like that slow sizzle of big stinging insects. Hope all is well!

Always, always carry chewable benadryl. They can save your life if you are allergic to bees. I have about ten minutes when stung before it kicks in. I almost died from a couple of paper wasps stings.

Warning there is a thing called green apple quick step. Lol. Apples that aren't ripe can cause problems trust me lol. Where I was as a kid we had a few natural crab apples. FYI if you plant a seed from say a granny Smith you will not get a granny Smith tree because they are created by grafting.

Hope you are recovering from the stinging end of your hike! Good thing you knew about your allergy and had your pen. That would be an important topic to discuss on a separate vid about hiking first aid kits and what is needed depending on distance from help and personal medical issues. Hey Susan, I know what your saying about Tweetsie...used to be fun to go back in the past and pretend with the kids it was the old west. If I had heard that junk, I think I would have filed a complaint with the management. Maybe the "players" need more supervision? Sounds like they were adlibing about the abs...

Thanks for this one. Walking in general is the natural way for a human being to move in a good way. People can look around and observe everything and enjoy being alive. People also get tired of it and that is good too. It is natural and keeps the physical condition excellent. This is what the modern people have missed by using the cars, buses and trains, not to mention airplanes etc. What you are doing with the videos is highly important for millions of people around the globe. I appreciate that.
