I typed in how to clean a box fan and found this gem of a video that happens to be the exact design of the fan I need to clean. My fan is so dirty and enough is enough
Thank you SO much for this tutorial! I have the same fan and I was just ready to throw it away for a new one. My bonus room stays so hot during the summer, so I need a good fan. Now, after cleaning it out, it works so well!
Thank you for making this vid. I have the same fan and it filthy! I've been asking my roommate to clean this for me. He's done it before. He says it's to much work. Apparently he completely took it apart. Needless to say it's up to me now to do it and I'm glad you showed me the short cut. I was getting irked with my roommate. I am now resentment free because I can do this for myself. Today I'll be cleaning it, I hope he sees me doing this! I don't need him, I have me, I can do it!! I'm a fan of a fan now ... : )
Thank you so much! I have a desk fan, I have a climate keeper one and it was so disgusting. It wasn’t blowing any air out and I just got so fed up because I didn’t wanna buy another one. I took it apart, used my kitchen sink Kitchen Sprayer and cleaned all that nasty dust out! And my god it looks and FEELS like I bought a new one! 🙏🤣😭👌✔️
That's basically what I did with the two I have before the summer season started, and they both were purchased brand new last year (2015)...Next year, I'll probably oil the motor assemblies as well...
I moved to Louisiana this year where the humidity is ridiculous and so to keep my utility bills below $40 I have several space fans. I recently adopted a cat which seems to significantly add to the dust factor now that it's summertime.
Thank you!!!!! Very helpful video. Decided to get off my butt and do this instead of wasting money on a new one which will get dirty as well. 5 stars dude!!!
Neighbor who was a hoarder left me a window AC that was disgusting. But with no AC I wasn't going to reject the gift. I just put in my shower, sprayed carefully like three or four times let the muck run off, gave like a few days to dry then ran it facing out my door to make sure any nasty stuff that could fly off did blow in my space at all. I didn't even initially want to bring it inside it was so gross and the run off supported this. But thank goodness I had it for the 2021 heatwave. Got record 112 F minimum here. My apt peaked at 94 for having this thing though.
You really need to remove the motor, take apart the motor, clean it up and repack the bearing sleeves with lithium grease. I clean mine once a year. They get really nasty, especially the squirrel cage type of blower fans. They collect an incredible amount of dust in no time at all.
@@williamadams2240 😊 you're welcome, also if you have a brush accessory for your vacuum that works to brush the dust off of your fan, or you could go buy a cheap brush from the dollar store.
I have a newer version of this fan. This video didn't help me take apart my fan. It needs cleaning REALLY bad, so I guess I continue to view all the videos until I can find the correct one.
I just take it outside, spray the crap out of it with simple green, let it soak for about ten minutes, then hit the entire fan with a strong blast from the hose. Yep, grills, blades, motor housing... the whole thing. After blasting all the dirt out, hold it up, let it drip for a few minutes, then put it on a towel below a ceiling fan and completely dry for at least 12 hours. Clean as new. Super easy. Three years old and I’ve done this twice a year. Works like new.
thanx so much for this idiotproof tutorial i really needed to know how to from the first step since i have never done this before other videos started showing the cleaning after they had it all apart- not real helpful for me good job
If you're talking about a box fan, you probably didn't tighten the knob back onto the frame good enough and if it's any type of bladed fans, you probably have the blades too tight or too loose.
You’re making this way too hard... I have the same fan- had it for over three years, and twice a year (at the beginning of the summer and half way thru the summer), I just take it outside, spray the crap out of it with simple green, let it soak for about ten minutes, then hit the entire fan with a strong blast from the hose. Yep, grills, blades, motor housing... the whole thing. After blasting all the dirt out, hold it up, let it drip for a few minutes, then put it on a towel below a ceiling fan and completely dry for at least 12 hours. Clean as new. Super easy.
I have this fan, dumbest fan ever. I'm about to throw it in the garbage where it belongs. I don't have a backyard nor a hose, so it takes me a lot longer to clean it and I have to clean it like once a month cause I have allergies.
Your logic is very flawed. How can someone be considered a jerk just doing what we all know how to do? And when properly cleaning an appliance it requires to take it apart to get every parts of it cleaned, so there's no way to clean it without taking it apart.

Doesn't spray the electrical with windex but sprays the hell out of it with water....lmao...hahahaha

Thanks. my windMachine was so dusty it was causing people to sneeze and to have watery eyes. now it is so clean it looks brand new.

Excellent! Thank you for giving me my Wind Machine back!!!
The Windex idea makes cleaning so easy...Thanks
Cleaning this same fan right now and cussing the whole way😫
Me too lol
The air it gives out is very strong. I intend on using it in my room to keep it cool.
Thank you!!!!! Very helpful video. Decided to get off my butt and do this instead of wasting money on a new one which will get dirty as well. 5 stars dude!!!
It's a lot safer to just unplug the motor , wash the grids apart freely and then gently wipe the fans near the motor
That hole in the blade hub is actually for oiling
SRCVintage Electronics its actually for both oiling and to take those screws out
thank you I was wondering how to take it apart. I did it and turned out great
Thanks ! Have the same one . This really helped me !
This video is so nostalgic now!
That isn't too bad.... I had no idea how to start. Thanks!
Thank you this really helped me clean my fan mine was gross but I got it done running just like new😅
Very helpful! Deft gonna get my fiancès tools out and thoroughly clean mine!

What is the length of the screwdriver required to open the screw of the fan?
you just washed an electric motor...
So what, by the time it's dry, it will be safe to use.
how do you tighten the blades?
Probably that hole in the blades has screws you can get to and tighten. Phillips screwdriver
+ronnie b prospecting there are no screws
+Kamica Noneya when you look on the top of fan use a flash light to see behind the fan down through the holes. you can see the screws.
