What to look for on a mower deck with belt problems

  • This is John Deere 190C is a perfect example of why it ends up costing several hundred dollars for what seems like it should be a simple belt replacement. EVERY bearing on this deck is shot. All 3 idler pulleys and all 3 spindles will need to be replaced. If they're not replaced the belt will not last. Any one of these bearings could lock up at any moment and burn up the belt. Or the belt could come off again and be damaged due to all of the excess sloppiness in the pulleys.

All idler pulleys and spindles on that deck are shot. People sit on their mower week after week and wonder to themselves, “gee, I wonder why this mower is so loud when I hit the PTO?”

I have a cub cadet ltx 1045 with 46" dual blade cutting deck, every belt I put on bounces like crazy when the cutting deck is off. When I engage the blades it mows fine. As soon as I shut it off the belt bounces and breaks. All belt keepers are close so the belt is not falling off the pulleys. Any way to fix ?

I’ve got an E180 that the belt keeps flipping in the drive pulley. I replaced the tensioner thinking maybe it had too much wear. All the pulleys sound good, mower has less than 75 hours on it. Have any ideas?

Why are all of them wore out? This tells you somebody is neglecting them.

Everything on this deck was shot. When it came into the shop it was packed solid with grass to the point that you couldn't even see a single pulley. The grass was dry and brown on the outside, but wet and caked into everything under the browned outer crust.

@@EshlemaniaTV I had a guy drop a mower off before. Told him im not a junk yard...nor a miracle worker. That thing needed everything. Carb kit...whole deck.....belts.....blades....majority of all the pulleys were shot. It was ugly

They're designed to hit a certain price point. So you know that there's going to be some corners cut and pennies saved wherever possible.

Pretty common on these style mower decks when they've been used for a few years and not maintained.
