Natalie got lucky does that mean she doesn't deserve to win? No anyone who can get the jury votes deserves to win but I think its fairly obvious she was not being strategic and just genuinely a nice person

@@davidfngr2789 It definitely is. I recall a few times where players have spelled names wrong on purpose (Tasha writing "kas" instead of "Kass," and Jonathan Penner writing "Denies" instead of "Denise." And of course who could forget Russell himself writing "Daniellie" the next season LOL

They showed most of that in the previously on in the next episode, but I can't believe they cut out the "happy birthday". So unexpectedly positive in the end.

I love how she never went below the belt and was straight up about everything being game. Her saying hats off to Monica for trying to save herself was a classy thing to do
The main thing I’ve noticed about Natalie? All of her confessionals explain very succinctly and logically why they lost whereas Russell speaks as to why they’re supposed to lose.
Natalie was a player playing a game, Russell was a guy who thought he was the main character of a story.

@@thefoxoflaurels3437 it probably doesn’t matter, he’s one of the most memorable players ever and did dominate the game playing his own way, he was also the first to regularly find idols without clues which definitely changed the way people played, some would say he still come out on top bc of those reasons despite never winning
The Monica vote shows exactly why Natalie won and rightfully so.
Russell thought of his castmates as television characters, Natalie treated them as humans. There is no right or wrong way to win Survivor if you get the votes at the end.
Russel actually said something nice about Brett. That was surprising way to end the video.
He wants him as son in law during those times. I remember an old interview of Russell saying he wants Brett to marry one of his daughters.

What I'll never understand is why Monica and Brett didn't rally after the Laura blindside. They voted with Foa Foa on the John and Dave vote outs and then Brett voted for Shambo!

also a contrast from voting ppl out based on threat level and voting ppl out because they were told too, don't think there's ever been 2 ppl that worked together the whole game that were such polar opposites

If someone is not going to vote for you, don’t put them on the jury lmao. At least not that early. I think if anyone had bad strategy for the Monica vote, it was actually Russell.
I agree that Russell's comment didn't make sense in his voting confessional, but also what else was he meant to do? She was against him and her staying around with Brett winning immunities would really increase the chance of a Galu slipping through to the end, and would mean Russell has less power.

The object of the game is to get enough jury votes to win, so Russell saying that he's putting Monica on the jury because he doesn't think she'll vote him just goes against the whole concept of how the game works
... and this shows how Natalie rightfully deserved the title. Knowing you should take accountability for what you do, sometimes the right move is not moving a single finger. You let the group be your meatshield, you manage your own social game in order to be in good spirits with most of the contestants even after writing their names down... and you end up overcoming the odds to win it all. Such a class act.
Really? Remember, this isn’t aw-shucks dissembling in front of soon to be jurors to leave them better inclined toward her than they are toward Russell. This is in the privacy of the voting booth. Even here she can’t articulate the reasons for almost any of these votes beyond “I’m going along with what others have decided.” No agency.
Lets keep real. This is bullshit. She won cause Russell was terrible in jury manadgement, and just that.

All of these votes from her were Russell led. If russell didnt get john to flip on the Laura vote out, natalie had a 50/50 shot of going home that tribal. She won because the jury liked her more. There is no other viable reason. She got that far because of russell. Period.

If you don't play with fire, you won't get burned as Russell would say. Brett never messed with Russell or organized any group strategy. Just a friendly young man trying to win challenges. Those people aren't on Russell's enemies list.

First episode, first vote confession, and it showcases beautifully why Natalie won. She managed to be on the correct side of every vote, set aside her own feelings to do the vote that was in her best interest, and put worth behind the connections she made with people and kept her word. She made such strong emotional/social connections yet didn't let how she may have felt about someone change her vote if she couldn't influence the majority about it in advance. And she clearly saw each of the people she eliminated as a person rather than a pawn.
Honestly the respect for Brett from Russell at the end is my favorite part of the video. He could’ve easily did what he did to everyone else and trash talked him but he didn’t. It’s the only time where Russell doesn’t act like a character and just says what he feels. Really wholesome moment

Right?? So many comments in here talking about how much Natalie earned her win. She made no moves in the game. She did what Russell told her to do for the entire season, and won a million dollars based on a bitter jury. "Sorry, my alliance told me to do this." That pretty much sums up her entire game.
@@thr3LoadR Exactly, if anything all this video proves is that Natalie did absolutely nothing other than ride coattails to be one of the worst winners. All of her confessionals are copy/paste and she was never in a position of power and just voted what she was told. Most juries would not respect that gameplay but taking out a tribe when you are down 8-4 will do that I guess.
@@jhurley1981 The argument could be made that being unassuming, being loyal to your alliance for as long as it will benefit you, and winning the game by being the least despised member of the final players is a valid strategy. Its less entertaining but in this case successful. Russel may have carried her to the final decision but he had to burn every bridge he had to get himself there. He basically did the hard work for her.
@@kevinwheeler7427 This argument doesn't work because in literally any other game, Natalie would've had no chance at all. Her only chance of winning was to be dragged to the final by someone who was both an unbelievably good strategist and an absolutely abhorrent human being.
Russell did everything right but the social game, and people justifiably point to that as a major failing. Natalie did nothing except for the social game, and in every other situation, that gets you eliminated and forgotten.
Every other winner needed some social game and some strategic ability, but Russell's craziness broke Samoa, and she ended up the beneficiary.

Russell might have been the first player that was sort of trying to be a villain. Parvati was villainous in Micronesia, but I don't think she was purposely being a villain until Heros vs Villains.
Russell really did change the game, as much as I don’t like him he made survivor a lot more about strategy and made the game what it is today

When I first watched the Samoa season, I thought Russell got robbed. A few years later, I looked back and realized why Natalie deserved to win over him. Now though, as I'm watching her vote confessionals, she mostly says "I'm doing it for Foa Foa" or "Majority rules". Which is once again making me question why she deserves the win if she's not giving herself any credit for wanting people out. Is Russell just delusional for giving himself most of the credit for the vote offs or did Natalie have some sort of strategy with her vote offs?

I would love to see a video like this but with Russell and Parvati in HvV. I know their votes did not match 100% of the time but I would still love to see how they addressed their votes and the reasons they gave.

I think most RI videos can be found on CBS official UA-cam channel. Weirdly enough that's the one season they have almost every DVD extra on that UA-cam channel.
@@OnceUponAnIsland I used to look at secret scenes and tribal council voting videos on the old Outwit, Outplay, Outlast UA-cam channel that was discontinued and removed a couple years ago. It is easy, though, to find videos for China through Gabon.

People saying this shows why Russell was a better player but honestly it just shows he was super cocky; a lot of what he says just isn't true or is over exaggerated. Yes he did take charge but honestly he gives himself too much credit and it works on a lot of the fan base.

If you're asking me to take what they've done outside of the game into account, I would vote to give Russell the million easily. Russell is really arrogant but seems to have calmed down a lot since his time on Survivor. He's spoken about how he would play differently if he ever did play again. While there are plenty of people who dislike him within the survivor community, he's also made more friends than you would think.

Natalie got the ball rolling by getting Erik voted out. She got Galu's defenses down, and convinced them she could be part of their team, and that was instrumental in Foa Foa knocking out Kelly the next round.
Do players see these when they are voted out?
No, but they could potentially see them eventually on the DVDs of their season (why wouldn't you buy the DVDs of the season you played on???) or online when CBS used to post them online. Just good to be a good sport since you'll still need to see these other players at charity events, meet n greets with fans, etc. so why be a jerk for no reason?

I wish they would drop a reedit on a couple seasons, this season especially. i feel Like Natalie was more of a powerhouse than the russle HvV preview edit would indicate.
I mean all this really shows for nat is just how often she voted based on what she was told to do but I'm sure there is also footage that would help her look more engaged and smarter

survivor is a social game. nobody is going to give you a million dollars if they don’t even *like* you. russell never seemed to realize this fact.
Yep, that’s the problem he never watched survivor and viewed the game like a professional sport where the best player won no matter what and social bonds don’t influence anything. He didn’t understand or even know a social aspect of the game existed until recently! He never rewatched 19 or 20 which is part of it I think as well. His ego was so high from 2009-2015 he was just riding that high saying I’m the best player and should’ve won, then turned around and realized his marriage was lost and his company is gone. Survivor destroyed his life in a way it impacted his psyche for years.
Maybe he counted on the fact that he was playing with grown people and not with a bunch of crybabies

People will never admit he at the very least deserved to win Samoa because they dislike his character, think he is human sent from hell, his constant success at getting his way in back to back seasons at the expense of other fan favorites and because he is simply controversial. Russell was overly aggressive in HvV but Samoa was flat out a ROBERRY !!!

Almost every round Russell articulates why the hit has been orchestrated and Natalie says she’s following along with others’ decision. Makes it hard to rationalize her beating him.
ugh reading the comments is so annoying. the most important thing in survivor is the social game, it doesn’t matter if u controlled the game, because if u were unlikeable and cocky, that’s a good reason to not make u win. That is the difference between Russell and Rob, Rob controlled everything AND everyone, he was likeable and understanding of what to do. Russell did a good job in the sttategic part, but the worst possible game in the social part. Natalie deserved it!
Rob also definitely learned the hard way. He made it to the final TC in All Stars but lost because his social game sucked. He learned, Russell didn't, and when Russell even put the veneer of wanting to change on, he was eliminated the first chance his tribe got.
The RI jury didn’t like Rob either though. Just that Rob knew he had to drag 2 massive goats to the end to have a chance of winning. Russell was completely delusional and thought there was no way he could lose so he didn’t bother doing that
