    If this is a middle finger to parts of their fanbase, honestly I get it. People have been massively disrespectful towards them in recent years, and knowing the history of the band, criticizing them for reinventing their sound after Tom died is a dick move. I imagine there's nothing more soul-crushing than rediscovering your passion for music and songwriting, only for people to shit all over your work just because it doesn't sound like something your dead friend would have written.
    If anything, I think this is the central theme of the song: their frustration at not being able to express emotions other than grief and anger in their songs without getting massive backlash. Of course All Our Gods sounds heavy and dark, it was written by a dying man, his twin brother and their friends. People really want them in THAT creative headspace again?
    Edit: wanted to add that this isn't an exclusive phenomenon to the metal scene. There's a very vocal part of Aurora's fandom that hates anything she's put out since like 2016 because she doesn't sound depressed anymore. Imagine being an artist and dealing with that kind of backlash. "We only love you when you're sad/angry/grieving"

    I honestly have nothing but respect to Architects for making this song. They're not calling out all fans, just the people who are essentially abusing them for not talking about Tom and sticking to their old "heavy" ways - the fan that stormed the stage here in Australia, for example. It's for the people who want them to be angry and talk about the same stuff forever and ever and ever (like The Amity Affliction do).
    I will say the same thing that I say to everyone who complains about bands who change their sound (Parkway Drive or Northlane for example) - the old albums are still there for you to listen to them. Go listen to it. No one is making you listen to the new music. So stop complaining. People change. They don't make music for you. They make it for themselves, and Architects don't want to make "angry" music about Tom anymore. They've grown and evolved through so much, and that's amazing.
    So yeah. Respect to them for this. They're well within their rights to call out the people who are treating them like dirt.

      Yep. As I said they’re welcome to put out whatever they want. And I totally agree: the old music still exists. People can go listen to that any time they want.
      It’s also totally ok to not to like a band’s new music and to express that opinion in a balanced and constructive way (not in the horrific way that small number of assholes have done with Architects in particular).

    • @ashleighjane
      @ashleighjane 9 місяців тому

      @SteveOGRock Absolutely, it's okay to not like everything a band does! Constructive criticism isn't a bad thing in the slightest, and I really don't believe they're calling those people out who provide that kind of feedback. It's definitely more the abusive, "why aren't you talking about Tom, why aren't you angry about Tom" fans.

    Love this song. And the message they're sending is pretty clear. Sam and Dan... but Sam specifically cause he did do a lot of the press for the band are fed up and I don't blame them. If one person let alone a whole group of people sent me death threats and continually kept bringing up a family member of mines death just to prove some stupid point of theres I'd be pissed too. I honestly give them props for dealing with that disrespect for as long as they did. It's not just faceless art. There are real people behind it and that should never be forgotten for any reason let alone one as trivial as "we don't like the album so screw you and here's why" insert stupidity here.

    I loved this song a lot and I don't think it's directed at fans. I think it is directed to the small but vocal and loud assholes you mentioned. Especially the kind that got on stage and physically attacked them. I think it is their way of dealing with that. I personally loved this song and the previous album and I really like the honesty in this.

    I'm usually not a fan of "a letter to the haters" kind of songs, but in this case, given the insane level of entitlement and harassment Architects has had to deal with in the last few years, I completely get it and I respect it.

    Valid points made there. Impossible to please everyone....Architects certainly know that. Good to be passionate about music, but artists can and should do exactly what they want, whether we like it or not. I'll shut up now 😂

    Every band goes thru changes and experiment with different sounds. Some better than others. But we like architects heavy style. But it does not justify being dicks to them. Still love them either way. This song is like a f you But it still slaps lol

    Regardless of my opinion on their last album. All our gods and holy hell were albums based on probably the toughest times sam has had. God forbid him try and make happier music. I agree with this. If you weren’t an asshole to them or sending death threats, I don’t think k they were talking about us.

    Having watched a few reactions now it seems a lot of people that have been into Architechs a while are feeling weird about the message being put forward. As a newer fan I really dig the song and it will be on repeat for me. Sort of feels like that everyone that had negative reactions to the last few albums are sort of feeling guilty? Strange to watch unfold as someone whos only been listening for a couple of months.

    I mean I can listen to a Poppy song, then a Lorna Shore song and then switch to a Nickelback song. Totally cool with lighter music. Will be honest, I haven't enjoyed Architects' albums after All our Gods Have Abandoned as much, but the last album had some good songs even though the album was on the lighter side and I still love the band overall. You can absolutely still love or like a band even if you don't enjoy one or two albums as much as the rest in my opinion. I do love this song, but I think it's equally going to piss off their fanbase given the lyrical subtext. My interpretation is that this is directed towards the fans, but hey, could be wrong. Don't worry @Architects, most of us still love you regardless.

      I don’t at all question the validity of their emotional response. I can’t even begin to imagine what they’ve gone through.
      They have decided to release this piece of art and I am critiquing it from my own point of view with my own context. There is nuance to all of this.

    In my opinion they should not spend so much focus on haters. However, I don't like their new sound and stick to they old stuff. They should play and record what they want to, but they have to accept that many fans don't like it. In my opion they did not only change their sound. They just lost quality. Take a look at other bands such as Deftones or Thrice. They changed their sound a lot, but they majority of fans like it. They even like the side projects such as Crosses although it has nothing to do with the Deftones sound. But its just well written music. Again, Architecs lost quality, it's not about playing heavy stuff or the Blegh.

      They’re not talking about fans who “didn’t like it” they’re talking about the people harassing them, sending them death threats, and trying to act like they’re smearing Tom’s legacy. I have a feeling you’re triggered because you’re one of those toxic miserable people they’re talking about.

    • @d1g1talbath
      @d1g1talbath 9 місяців тому +1

      No, I am not triggered. I only wish they would focus on their music. They have enough to do with that. As I said, in my opion their music has lost a lot of quality. The music now is very simple, the lyrics generic and the production killed Sams voice. They made one of the best albums ever with AOGHAU, but there is no progress since then. Yes, there is a change, but its not progress.

      @daltonevans3412 9 місяців тому +12

      @@BK_ZERO that was the entire point though. They were making a statement with this song that they are tired of fans telling them how the write their music like they get to decide what the band puts out instead of letting them write what they want to write, i mean the lines "We only ever love you when you're seeing red", "I'm not as bulletproof as you all paint me to be
      Time hasn't frozen, why do you want me to scream?" And finally "i'll never get tired of your great advice" sums the message up perfectly, they are tired of all their fans constantly telling them their new stuff isn't as good as their old stuff, or that they've sold out and gone commercial, or there aren't enough screams and nitpicking every little detail instead of enjoying what they've decided they want to make and just not listening if it's not for them. You're quite literally doing exactly what they are saying they are sick of in this song. The "fans" are sucking the life out of the band and leaching all the enjoyment of making music out of the process because of comments exactly like yours, instead of saying that most of the song was really good, you said one specific (and very tiny) detail ruined the song. So even when the band does exactly what the quote unquote "fans" have been demanding there are still tons of people like you just shitting on them for no reason and still finding something to complain just for the sake of it. If this shit keeps up the band is probably pretty close to calling it a day because no matter what they do people like you are never satisfied and are ruining the whole experience for the band, which sucks for the rest of us who aren't so narrowly focused and can just enjoy the music for what it is, because this song had so many fantastic elements in it but because there was max 30 seconds of audio you didn't like you say the song is ruined.

      that's the point of the song though? getting back at entitled crybabies who shat on them for writing fun, happy, brighter songs. also sounding like Linkin Park is of the best compliments one's ever given but you managed to make it sound like they're one of the worst bands to ever exist but well there are literally millions ppl like you everywhere in every single fanbase of every entertainment media so i won't waste my time on this lol
