Ever tried downshifting from 2 to 1 or any other gears ? realise the engine raises its nrev the moment you downshift and release clutch? but instead of having it to rise on its own we give throttle to raise it before downshift to match the rotation speed from the gearbox shaft and engine rotation. advantage: Engages the previous gear easier (a double declutch would be better i suppose) Saves the clutch from burning trying to match the rotation speed Prevent locking up tires when downshifting like driving on rainy day or snow And sounds cool actually but its a functional show off. The resistance of the engine(vacumn resistance ,mechanical components friction,parasitic friction and etc shares the burden of the brake (not sure hom much though Additional point (my guess) Always engaged connecting to the engine .The momentum from the engine helps prevent tyres locking up by the brakes easily versus disengage and stomping on the brake . And i do not endorse doing things like the video on public road(although i do it too sometimes( hypocrite)) Also dont take my words easily doubt my words and cross reference to check if its legit..
