This is why I would love you as a coach! No B.S. straight forward . The club is just a tool it's the player who has to present the right swing to make these tools work as they are intended
Love the honesty of these reviews, it's refreshing to hear the facts instead of marketing nonsense. It has definitely changed my opinions and thoughts when buying clubs. Also loving Coach's wedge spin consistency ! Keep up the great work lads.
This is in no way criticism but I’ve been following you for a few years now and I don’t really watch club reviews anymore because you have ingrained it into my brain to go and test and get fitted!!!
Great video Mark, highlighting the problems and mis-conceptions surrounding club choice. It is so difficult, as a consumer, to find a wedge that suits. I don't pay much attention to spin, but look at feel, consistency and making sure the lofts are 'gapped' appropriately for my game and shots that I like to play. I've had more bad wedges than good though, and have had to use a 'trial and error' method, as the professionals and retailers just want you to spend the most money possible and don't usually care if you are back in two weeks to buy another. I'm currently very happy with my Ping glide 2.0 stealth wedges which seem to suit my game atm.
I can see you working well in a marketing department, gagged and bound sat in a locked cupboard somewhere! Keep up the good work in a world where stretching the truth or lying has become ok and acceptable it’s great to hear a consistent voice of truth and reality. I hope your deals don’t get compromised because of the truth. I look forward to your content daily in whichever form of vlogs, from course to technique and equipment.
Mark, 3 years ago I was sold on a wedge by the spin numbers but 3 years on, after watching you over that time, I know that they are all the same. It is more personal looks and feel and getting the right bounce and grinds. You have BRAIN WASHED me!
Great video! All wedges pretty much spin the same. The rules allowing what grooves are legal has stopped any advancement in groove technology. Buy a Cobra, TaylorMade, Mizuno, Callaway or Vokey. They all spin about the same. My preference is more about the finish, shape and the grind of the wedge.
Hello Mark, been a big fan of yours for a while now and couldn’t respect you more for your honestly and objectivity when it comes to product reviews( I started watching your channel back when you were making “how to fix your slice” videos in the old hitting bay with Colin Montgomery in the background haha) just wondering if you think that the golfing industry needs merchandise to move the needle and keep the sport alive or if there are other areas people need to be investing their time and money? Thanks for the content!
Great honest info again as usual Mark. When fitting and choosing a wedge it is all about bounce, grind and feel, so that you can work the club as needed to obtain the shot you need. Worrying about spin is definitely the wrong rabbit hole to go down. Keep up the good work guys.
Mark, once again an excellent video. I could not agree with you more these new Wedges do not spin more, providing you clean and dry them after each shot. I currently play a Titleist SM6 and I am happy with them and do not want to change them.
I saw Jaws and already thought we're gonna need a bigger boat!!! LOL All the talk about grooviness when we all just need a lot more real world practice!!! I just want my ball to get as close to the hole as possible without care as to whether it gets there landing with spin or not... Loved the video!!!
Excellent video as always, and the topic of "what exactly are we testing" when it comes to wedges is spot on. Also a small observation based on having some slo-mo swings to look at (and I of course am no professional :) - Dan sets the club and seems to be able to hold that set through impact before releasing, resulting in a consistent impact position of the club handle being slightly ahead of the ball, which I believe is why he has more consistent results and better spin. - Coach looks like he's flipping the club at the ball through impact, resulting in a non-consistent impact position, which I believe is why his shots are.... shall we say..... about as consistent as a toddler telling the truth when their hand is caught in the cookie jar. :) - Mark isn't that far off from Dan's impact position, but maybe a touch less consistent (and maybe a little more vertical shaft at impact instead of handle slightly forward), which results in a little less consistency than Dan. ??
My old gran told me never to believe spin doctors, buy i do like the look of these and i am going for a wedge fitting soon, i can`t wait to try these and i think that the way a club looks at address can inspire confidence.
Just returned home from today's midweek round. My playing partner very impressed with his PM grind Callaway . We played seconds into the tenth from same distance . His 56 PM grind went high and straight and bounced and released about two meters. My G30 9 iron went low hit past the cup and spun back 2 meters on the dead flat green. Go figure !!
I have two of them. Came from Vokeys to these. I like them. Love the feel and the look. Didn't buy based on spin. I have noticed that they are a little "hotter" then the Vokeys I had. Perhaps that's why you were flying them a little long. I have the same issue. Seems like the ball jumps off the face of these, which can be good and bad.
Personally I think all wedges spin the same but what is the bounce on the wedges and the grinds? Because on the indoor testing it sounded like you was hitting the Callaway wedge a tad higher on the face however could be the audio on the video making it sound like that
They definitely look great - I would game them happily. The bounce a look the same or similar on all of them - is there a version with "grinded" bounce? That's is what I need for one of the three.
I think that is what a lot of companies are doing with their clubs prices are going up but I struggle to see significant improvement in materials that are used to justify it. I think companies like pxg have caused this but it’s interesting that their clubs have come down in price.
Kevin Delaney PGA they just charge as much as we will pay, I suppose carbon in drives is expensive, new tech to make hollow beads but £150 wedges are a joke
If you had a set of originally X Jaws from pre-2010 grooves vs the current day MD5's, would you expect any difference on mats? I'm assuming there's be a stark difference on grass in spin numbers.
The one thing I like about new wedges, that I would expect to see more OEMs use, is the groves all the way across the face like the TM Hightoe and the Michelson wedge. I DO think it makes sense. Outside of that, if you’ve got the right bounce for your swing, I suspect the spin numbers would be similar, as Mark says.
I play Callaway's raw wedges from last year. I picked them because they offered the X grind in 54* and I love the feel of a custom shaft only Callaway offers. I never even thought about spin. All wedges spin well enough these days.
Do these have any type of water dispersion material? Living in Florida it can be sunny on the first hole, hurricane for 20 minutes and then be sunny by the 3rd hole. I've noticed that certain clubs deal with wet conditions better than others it seems. I have a 56 MD4 and a 60 SM4 but am about to start looking for a upgrade on both. I know that aping have the hydropearl for example, jus curious if callaway of titlesit have their own materials?
Just curious, before you guys test wedges, particularly one vs another, do you measure the loft and lie of each prior? Regardless of what is stamped on the heads?
A wedge is a club that needs to be bought based on feel, head weight preferences, looks, and above all else: ability to control distance. That's what they're made for. Spin will be the same on all of them due to stringent controls on grooves.
oh how the room got quiet when the 3 of you saw 1500 revs difference 😂 that was awkward AF. luckily Crossfield showed up with the biggest shovel he could lift and started digging Jaws out of that massive black hole. you are a true friend to coach, you are 👍🏻
can someone explain the colored weight situation of these wedges please? can they be changed out? are they set in the wedges already or does a person choose what they want?
Ah, honesty. Much appreciated. What can 500 revs do anyway? Spin marketing is so funny. Most am's cant even strike the ball consistently for chips around the green and think a magic wedge with sharper grooves are going to get it to check like the tour pros.
Mark, When you test a new club, how much of consideration do you think there should be about the fact that, although may be fitted by your specs, those are still "new clubs" which you are not use to, and would that factor in to the result (spin, flight etc). Great review's as always, keep them coming, looking forward to them every time.
Not sure how that would change as the strikes are always being worked in?? If a club takes longer to get to then you do t really see that bit on camera. We only try and test like for like as much as possible.
Love the honest review mark ! It's great that your not saying it spins 10,000 bla bla and you need to buy it so the ball will stop on the green like other youtubers 😂 . Definitely down to looks and feel with me for a wedge anyway keep up the good work love the content 👍
I've got better at my wedge play thanks to this video....... Didn't teach me much, just made fill better about my game....😂 😂 Better cut up Mr callaway apple... As he has no bite....... If you want spin..... Buy a newspaper...
I had Mizuno,Callaway,Vokeys and Cleveland wedges over the years and when struck well they have all performed very similar, all good wedges not one better than the other
Hmmm, of course Mark, , what you say is bloody obvious, AFTER you pointed it out to me. Before that, not so much. I’m very happy to learn more and different ways to conceptualise the world around me. This video is cool.
Test Vokey wedges vs. Ping glide 3.0. After those numbers, test them in a wet setting like early morning dew/rainy conditions. The results are pretty staggering.
you are basing this solely on TXGs review I pressume? It was a great video but those numbers will not transform over to real grass and real conditions, which is sorta what this video and Marks point is about.
oliverfreakout I’m not basing it solely on that video, no. I saw that and tested it out myself on both my pro shop simulator like they did, and on the course chipping green and it did translate to actual performance benefits.
I suppose there is only so much you can do with a wedge in terms of technology. It's all about the player, the look and feel. They look good and I would probably game them however would I trade in my year old Ping Glide 2.0 stealth wedges for them? I would rather spend the money on lessons to sharpen my short game. Good video guys, enjoyable as always.
Very good and honest "testing" All wedges get the job done if you make good clean contact 👍 I think that even cheaper wedges are enough good to play scratch golf.
Good content, as usual. Would love to see a test with an old wedge with semi-worn grooves (you know, like a lot of regular golfers have in their bags) and see how they perform against new wedges.
Swingweight is a huge factor with how wedges feel. Titleist is higher swingweight. D5 versus the D4 of the Jaws. That can play a huge factor in what you prefer as a player.
The grooves have a sharper leading edge, wouldn’t that increase ball-cover + groove interaction from a more “deep rough” type of lie?... also potentially wearing out the ball-cover faster (which does not appeal to me).
So what causes the Soren effect? If an 80 yard pitch spins at 10k, from testing I’ve seen roughly 1000 per club. So why would an 8 iron spinning at 8k spin back and others don’t? Why can’t you get those 40 yard pitches to stop quicker given the rates were quite similar to longer clubs? Does that make sense ? Cheers brah
Mark Crossfield yea get that. Thanks. What I don’t get is that you probably wouldn’t get those little 80 yard tests to spin backwards which spin at 10k yet you would get a 9 iron to spin back from say 140 yet they wouldn’t spin more than 9k? Any better a question? Sorry.
Getting the right carry, looks, grind, feel... all more important than maximum spin especially because strike is so critical. Now a days, hydrophobic property tech is coming into play, too.
I totally agree with you that people shouldn't be buying wedges based on how much they spin, especially off mats. You missed what criteria you would use to make a wedge purchase. For me the sole and bounce are the most important factors, followed by looks. Having the correct sole and bounce for the conditions you generally play and matching to a players skill level are key to being consistent around the greens
Lol technically aren't the grooves on Mr parfields wedges still new?!?!? They have been filled with dirt since the first outdoor use... in turn, preserving the zippy zipperness!! 😎 on a side note.. ask pop pop Dan or coach if I can buy one of those "tour" groove cleaners!! I'd love to share a good groove cleaning vid from Pennsylvania 👍
It isn't really about spin, it's about result. If wedge "a" gives you confidence and such a consistent result, that you end up closer to the hole, and getting "up and down" more, that is the wedge for you. That is the real job of your wedge set up. Because people like different things, different looks, finishes, lofts and grinds will be chosen by players. Spin, is that, just "spin". As long as you get the amount you need to get you close....
Nothing to do with the video Mark but a while back you said you had some controversial views on Nick Faldo and you might do a video on it, will you be doing that video?
This is why I would love you as a coach! No B.S. straight forward . The club is just a tool it's the player who has to present the right swing to make these tools work as they are intended
Love the honesty of these reviews, it's refreshing to hear the facts instead of marketing nonsense. It has definitely changed my opinions and thoughts when buying clubs.
Also loving Coach's wedge spin consistency !
Keep up the great work lads.
Bullocks from a gang of wankers
You should get Rory to test them, not because it would provide any insight. Just because it would be funny
Really love it when you test to show the public what they should really be looking at. I could watch you boys do these type of tests all day!
I'm getting three of these!
52, 56 and 60 in the black finish, thank you very much!
The most honest an informative review on a wedge I've ever seen. Cheers fellas, long time subscriber 👍🏻 #spin
Best golf coach/equipment tester on UA-cam by far 👌🏻
This is in no way criticism but I’ve been following you for a few years now and I don’t really watch club reviews anymore because you have ingrained it into my brain to go and test and get fitted!!!
This test proves conclusively the power of the Torquay groove cleaner
Great video Mark, highlighting the problems and mis-conceptions surrounding club choice. It is so difficult, as a consumer, to find a wedge that suits. For me, one of the most important aspects is the name. 'Mack Daddy' offers exceptional banter potential!
I love you honesty.
Thank you so much for these type of videos
I'm sorry but did I just hear Coach say "Ohhh what a Jizzy Jizz there!"?
...I mean
...
I can see you working well in a marketing department, gagged and bound sat in a locked cupboard somewhere!

Would love to see you 3 try the Cleveland cbx 2. I know Mark liked the cbx wedge.
Well done boys, great work showcasing what's real vs. what's in an advert to suck us in. Keep up the great work, thanks!
I'm a fan of this channel partly because I'm a fan of myth busting. So awesome.
Nice vid lads.
Have definitely been watching too many of your videos. Dreamt that me and Lockey worked together as window cleaners. 😂😂
Haha
Great video! All wedges pretty much spin the same. The rules allowing what grooves are legal has stopped any advancement in groove technology. Buy a Cobra, TaylorMade, Mizuno, Callaway or Vokey. They all spin about the same. My preference is more about the finish, shape and the grind of the wedge.
and dont forget feel.

Love this video and it was posted at the perfect time. I am going to get fitted in the next few weeks for my wedges so this was helpful. Thank you
hands down the best testers in the business
Very good looking club, again if gives you confidence when you look down at a club then I guess that helps
Mark, once again an excellent video. I could not agree with you more these new Wedges do not spin more, providing you clean and dry them after each shot. I currently play a Titleist SM6 and I am happy with them and do not want to change them.

??
The variation is more a result of their foolishness than anything club related
Lockey showing us some fine Chipping form there. Ha ha ha. As always boys, simply the best impartial reviews on UA-cam. Keep it up.
I have found for me when it comes to a wedge I want to like what I am seeing when looking down at it more than the "numbers" behind it.
My old gran told me never to believe spin doctors, buy i do like the look of these and i am going for a wedge fitting soon, i can`t wait to try these and i think that the way a club looks at address can inspire confidence.

Good stuff. I am in agreement with you.
I would say, pick the one you like the looks and the feel of. The major manufacturers all make good wedges.
Once again great review. Best advice try before you buy, then have a lesson with your new spinny wedge. Thanks for your efforts Mark
Great review as always - 100% candid on the reality, with a heavy dose of solid advice on how to best choose your new wedges👍
Yup...#🦈💫 and I've learnt that Dan needs to give me wedge short game lessons...oh and I still want to buy a Torquay groove cleaner 💪😂👍
I have two of them. Came from Vokeys to these. I like them. Love the feel and the look. Didn't buy based on spin.

Callaway wedges are seriously underrated people seem to go for Titleist wedges but not so keen on other brands
They make good wedges
Kevin Delaney PGA cleveland are great too, unfortunately rtx 4 went to £140 from rtx 3 £89 for no reason other than that’s what everyone else charges
Dan has magic hands cause over his 50 yrs as a pro hes had more practice...lol...grandan...great review as always lovely boys....lol

Exactly.. it's all what ya like to look at and what bounce options fit you better. All the wedge companies do well
Pros say they have to take spin off. But they like the bite form when they need it. Can't ever make everyone happy.

Oooooooh! My favourite wedges ever. Always shredded my balls covers back in the day, left chunks of cover in the grooves.

Better cut up Mr callaway apple... As he has no bite.......
If you want spin..... Buy a newspaper...
TXG showed a few times that you can get more spin by changing balls rather than clubs.
By miles the truest club testing.... 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I had Mizuno,Callaway,Vokeys and Cleveland wedges over the years and when struck well they have all performed very similar, all good wedges not one better than the other
Just purchased the Mack Daddy Jaws 50 degree 10S
Still use my old JAWS in 52º , might consider swapping over to these based on looks and grind options.
I wonder what would happen if you compare a old MD2 to the new MD5..

I would like to purchace a torquay groove cleaner, however i live in america and they do nto offer them on their web site. ?? Thanks
Another great honest vid. I also like the fact that I now don’t feel so bad about not stiffing it from 50 yards every time 😂😂
Mark, why do you not clean your wedges for every shot? I fully get all the variables but surely this is one you have total control over.
Each shot was cleaned in this test. On the course I am just there for the sandwiches
have you lost weight looking on the light side?
Great video, Mark, thank you.
I suppose there is only so much you can do with a wedge in terms of technology. It's all about the player, the look and feel. Good video guys, enjoyable as always.
Very good and honest "testing" All wedges get the job done if you make good clean contact 👍 I think that even cheaper wedges are enough good to play scratch golf.
It was a fun test we all learned today.
Good content, as usual. Would love to see a test with an old wedge with semi-worn grooves (you know, like a lot of regular golfers have in their bags) and see how they perform against new wedges.
Like the 2 audios one camera feature
My main need from a wedge is turf interaction, spin is 2nd.
Swingweight is a huge factor with how wedges feel. Titleist is higher swingweight. D5 versus the D4 of the Jaws.
That can play a huge factor in what you prefer as a player.
Great content as usual bro 👊🏻
Thanks Adam 👍
The grooves have a sharper leading edge, wouldn’t that increase ball-cover + groove interaction from a more “deep rough” type of lie?... also potentially wearing out the ball-cover faster (which does not appeal to me).
You saw what happened when we got stuff in the grooves bruh. 👍
Great video as usual. Like to see real data on course. Get up Dan.
The grass data is really the same on the course 👍
Great video! No longer worried about my spin rate! 🤔😊
Enjoyed that... they do look nice. Thanks brahs!
Cheers brah
Not really no sorry.
But hopefully this helps. Spin ingredients
Speed/ spin loft/ strike 👍
Mark Crossfield yea get that. Thanks. What I don’t get is that you probably wouldn’t get those little 80 yard tests to spin backwards which spin at 10k yet you would get a 9 iron to spin back from say 140 yet they wouldn’t spin more than 9k? Any better a question? Sorry.
I would say those 10k 80 yard shots are perfect for some rip back. 👍👍 good lane angle with some revs
Probably the best chance of it.
Enjoyed jaws video lads 🏌🏿👍
Could u do one on different grinds & they can be gamed please bit of a minefield for jo average 😨
Is that Dan lifting weights in the poster behind you?
Very informative... thanks.
You should so cut and paste Matt’s Jizzy Jizz comment onto every thin bullet or shank that Rory hits in future vlogs 😂😂😂😂
Mr crossfield... May I have that pull over! That thing is beautiful!
Nice vid. That's why playing the par 3's off the mats on super soft greens makes us all feel like pros haha :-)
It’s a funny day when I get more excited about a slab of forged steel than the latest iPhone applefanboy
Step up Coach, this is a video that wouldn’t be right without the magic man. Wedges Callaway Coach #Leader #Army #Markgivesthepplwottheywant 🔥🔥
