  • With so many loft options, getting the correct "Loft-Gapping" is critical to providing you the best distance coverage with full wedge shots as well as versatility around the greens. Make sure you watch to the end to see the Wedge Chart with my loft recommendations for carrying three or four wedges based on the loft of your Pitching Wedge.

    What wedges are you playing?

      Mike Bury I use a 44.5 degree PW, 49.5 degree UW (Ping G400), then have a 54 degree Callaway, and a 60 degree. Just was given a 58degree vokey. Is that too many wedges? I still have room in my bag... thanks!

    • @MikeBuryGolf
      @MikeBuryGolf  5 років тому +2

      The nice thing is you have room. But, I think it will create indecision... "Should I use the 58° or 60° here?" If you want to take advantage of the 14 club limit I would look elsewhere in your bag or just stick with what you have. Practice with the 58° and 60° and see which one you like better.

      @@MikeBuryGolf This is what I thought you might say. That makes a ton of sense, and I do need to add either a 3 iron or fairway wood and utilize the 58 degree instead of 60. Thanks again!

      I use a Cleveland CBX 48 degree wedge that seems extremely versatile. I love that thing. I can use it well off the green or close in as well. I used to use chippers but this thing is amazing. I have used it for 6 rounds so far. Its graphite shaft keeps it light and easy to control. The only other wedge I have is a 56 degree Sureout Wedge from Callaway that is amazing for getting out of sand. I am more than satisfied with these two. Spider Dubiel

    This was very helpful as my new PW is 43deg, so where i used to carry 45/50/56/60, I have now gone for 43/48/54 and 58. The 58 will really do whatever my old 60deg could, but i can hit full shots from 130/120/105 and 80 meters out. Your video confirmed what i thought! Cheers

    I just received a set of Taylormade Sim2 Max irons in 5-PW (PW is 42) yesterday. I ordered Cleveland wedges (CBX2's in 48/52/56 & 60) to round out my wedges as I felt the 42 is mighty aggressive but will play around with them and will settle on a 4-wedge setup for my bag. Felt the gap between the 42 and 56 was just too much and wanted some in-between wedges and wanted a 60 to have when I need it. Short game love...Thanks for a no-nonsense recap video on this over-analyzed subject. Cheers.

    Very useful. Have Mizuno JPX 900 forged PW at 45 Degrees. Currently MP T-11 wedges - 50 Gap, 56 sand. Thinking of replacing GW and SW with Cleveland CBX2 - 52 and 58 or 50, 54 and 58, creating one more wedge, which would be fine. Very clear with great chart.

    I use Callaway Steelhead PW 44 & AW 49, Callaway MD3 SW 56 and MD3 60. This set up gives me about 10 yard increments. I have found that the 60 is great with close pins & short shouts over bunkers with a close pin. Yes they say you can do it a lot with a SW by just opening it up and no need for a 60 but for me I would rather avoid manipulating the face unless I am in a bunker.

    I use Callaway Mavrik clubs which included the PW at 41°, and the AW at 46°. I bought a separate 56° for sand, then realised I needed more loft out of steep bunkers, so I bought the Callaway Jaws Full Toe 64° which makes getting out of bunkers a breeze. It’s also great for soft shots around the green. I was left with a gap between my AW (46) and my SW (56), so have just pre-ordered the new Jaws Raw 52°. So now my wedges are 41, 46, 52, 56, 64.

    Ping Anser 45 and then Ping Glide 2.0 50, 55 (56 bent) and 60. Though I’m not a big hitter, I hit my wedges pretty far to have 58 be highest loft. 60 goes 90 yards. 105-120-130 is the rest of the gapping.

    Playing set PW 46, then 52, 56, 60 right now (MD2 and MD4). However, I'm considering splitting the difference and going 58* so I can get a fairway finding machine back in the bag. The C grind is so versatile in the 56* I barely ever hit the 60 unless I'm in a deep bunker or exactly 50m out. I mostly play links in the wind so flighting down is key and a high shot comes with added challenge!

Now that I’ve learned to hit them, I’ve been trying to figure out what wedges I want/need, but I always wonder how much distance I can reasonably expect to achieve for various lifts. My PW is 44* degrees in my irons set, so I went with a 50* degree gap wedge, a 54* degree wedge, a 56*degree sand wedge, and I rotate between 58* and 60* degree lob wedges, depending on the course I am playing and what I feel most like using that round.
    If playing on a course with massive sized greens, it may be better to use the 58* degree wedge for lengthier approach and bump and run shots.
    As time goes on, I may end up sticking with the 60* degree wedge more often than the 58* degree, but it's good to have multiple wedge options that can be rotated in and out, as needed.

    I used to hit the ball a long way and used many attack clubs from a great distance. Being 62 years old I attack inside of 150 yards now that's 7 iron and down. I use 5 wedges all TAYLORMADE MG3 wedges a 44 degree that I hit 115 yards, 48 degree at 105, 53 degree at 90, 57 degree around 75 and a 60 degree around 60 yds I hit very few full wedges my normal wedge is 80% so I have married them up to carry scoring distances. Driver, 5 wood, 4 iron-9 iron. My gap is from 195-215 yards which most of the time I just don't get aggressive with. Currently a 5 hdcp.I hit my Driver 260 yards and we play tees that rarely do I need more than a seven iron to reach par 4s. Most of holes are Driver wedge.I love wedges and have them at all lofts in between so switching to 4 wedges and adding and hybrid or 3 iron for certain courses and just change them up but I like my system so far.What do you think of using 5 wedges?

  • @marc6652
    @marc6652 3 роки тому

    I changed my SW + LW in D1 for a 58° in D3 (also used as a SW). Maybe you should highlight that loft is one thing, but bounce and swing weight are at least as important. I'd rather have PW 45° / GW 52° in D1 and LW 58° in D3 + an extra 52° with an other bounce (1 low and 1 high), depending on the ground I play, than 4 different lofts for all the year.

    Great video. I currently carry 4 wedges starting at my 47° PW (Ping G2). I then have Cleveland CBX wedges at 52°, 56°, & 60°. The gapping is perfect for me. My irons are old with more traditional lofts. I’m in the market for new irons in the next couple months. The couple sets I’ve already hit and I like have a PW around 44°. My current 5i (longest iron in my bag) is 27° and the new 5i is more like 24°. I then go to a 23° 4h & 20° 3h. I want to keep my CBX’s as is. What do you think of a setup of 21° hybrid at the top end and adding a 5th wedge, 48°, ahead of my 52°? I prefer more options in the scoring clubs vs upper end of my bag. Thanks.

    I have pretty much every degree wedge, But I'll only play 4 per round. I always carry a 46, but every once and while I will use my 48. I pretty much always carry lazarus wedges in 52, 56, and 60. They don't have alot of bounce (4°) and I don't like alot of bounce because I always seem to thin the ball more when I open the face and try to pitch. I am a pitcher not really a chipper, so I'm always opening the face no matter where I am unless I'm more then 75-80 yards away. I only hit my 46, and 50 degree wedges with full shots excluding certain circumstances. I have a sm7 jet black 46°, I have a cleveland CG one 50°, lazarus wedges in 52, 56, 60°. I have a sm7 54, and 58°. The Lexus wedges are my favorite because they have deep sharp spin milling on the face that hasn't worn out in a year that much. They spin more then titlest and cleveland wedges, but not by allot. I recommend you guys check out lazarus wedges! Seriously only 149.99 for three wedges!

  • @invisaman75

    I use the so-called traditional PW = 48* with 53* and 58* wedges. The PW from the '1990s and early '2000s was 48* but true traditional (when PW was not part of the iron set) was 50* - 52*. The GW was not needed because your PW was the same loft as today's GW. Use what fits your needs because the ball or the golf course doesn't care!

    • @MikeBuryGolf
      @MikeBuryGolf  5 років тому +1

      8° bounce is definitely low for the 54°. 54° is great if you are use to it. 54° or 56° would work. I am a 56° guy. Hard for me to switch. 54° comes out stronger than I am use to. But, if that's what you have always played then it works. I would look for a minimum of 10° bounce on your 54°, but maybe more like 12°.

      Thanks Mike! Keep up the great content. The 54 was my first sand wedge. So I can bump up.

    46, 50, 56, 60 sm8 on tt tour issue xstiff 120s. It’s the way I use these THats key to why I have a gal between sand wedge and approach. Everything within 60 yards it’s my lLob wedge k grind closed face. All other wedges are for hitting se 60-100, aw 80-120, pw 100-140.

    Four wedges most of the time. But the lofts depend on individual sets. For me Pw 44, GW 49, SW 54, LW 58. All Mizuno.

    I’ve split my wedges by 4 deg due to a strong 46 deg ending with a 58 deg, changing loft, does affect bounce, so it wasn’t my choice. Great subject

    I thought a sand wedge can only be used for the bunker shots? I can still use the sand wedge on the grass for an approach shot for the green? thanks...

    My PW is 46° my AW is 51° I carry Srixon Z785 irons and that’s my PW and AW, my speciality wedges are Cleveland RTX-4 54° and 58° thinking about bending my 51° to 50° or getting a 52° and taking the 51° and 54° out. I love my 2-iron it’s going nowhere.

    I fahave a question here, our PW is a 43° since it's a game imp irons set. How and why is it, based on this chart, okay to have a 7° gap bet PW and W2?? And is the 6° gap bet W2 and W3 also okay and why?
