Wow, this feels like a late start, and its a dry year, but good luck with this hike! I recommend night hiking if its hot, as long as your nav is working. Watch for sidewinders at night though. April-July is snake season, so be alert, and watch the shaded areas along sides of trails, where they hang out. They can bury themselves in sand too. A mister is nice in the desert. Be safe and have fun!

Great to see you all starting. I did not realize the trailhead is so close to the border. I think I would miss the trees (woods) but the Rockies are different than the Appalachian Mountains. Stay safe and have fun.

Y’all got this. Y’all make sure to get water when you can, I followed The Wander Women journey and they had issues of not being able to find water sometimes. Lots of miles in between water sources

Have fun guys! Best of luck. - The succulent is a Chalk Liveforever (Dudleya pulverulenta). San Diego County has quite a few Dudleya species. The bushes with the red bark are Manzanitas. They're in the same plant family as the Rhododendrons.

Watch out for the poodle dog bush in the San Gabriel Mountains, it can cause a severe allergic reaction if you touch it. So excited to watch your new journey! 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻♂️

Thank you, you’ve answered a lingering question that’s always been in the back of my mind for many years. Do people who’ve grown up in humid areas dislike the dry as I dislike humid claimants! Good luck and safe journys. You’ll be in heaven once you’ve reached the Sierras which I believe to be the best part of the trail.
I live in humid Kentucky, and I love the dry climates. 80 F in humidity feels terrible, 80 out west feels great. Not to mention sweating works like it’s actually supposed to in dry climates.
In KY sweat never actually evaporates, you just end up a wet mess.
@@blakew5672 I know what you mean. Went back east with a stopover in Dallas Tx when I left the cool safety of the termanal I could see the sweat coming out of my pores in seconds!
Nope. Im from Miami, and the California dryness is a dream come true.

You two take good care of each other. There are a couple plants that you are to be careful not to touch or let touch your legs….if you don’t know them, ask or do research. God’s speed…….glad to see you both on trail.
